opened fire at sandy hook elementary killing 20 children and six educators. fresh in everyone' s minds, the lives lost. this is the first time the anniversary falls on a school day. newtown' s high school and middle school holding moments of silence. but lower grade schools are trying to keep the day as normal as possible for students giving parents the option of discussing the tragedy with their children. erika: today massachusetts leaders are marking the anniversary with the unveiling of a new gun control billboard. it' s sponsored by stop handgun violence. that' s the same group behind attention-grabbing billboard that overlooked the mass pike near fenway park. that billboard came down after the parking garage under it was sold. the new one is located across the from the hynes convention center. emily: new at noon the man accused of killing a stoughton business owner is being held on $20,000 cash bail. michael burns of taunton now facing charges including driving under the influence. the family of 71-year-old joseph brady, mourning the loss of the beloved husband, father and grandfather.

along route 27. he was run down friday night, business he owned for 45 years. s wife linda heard the >> i want to be the curse of that man. he' s the love of my life that he is gone. i nothing, i have my family. >> linda say her husband was an avid car enthusiast, inducted in the new england hall of fame for antique racers. he leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. emily: right now a 90-year-old man is in the hospital after being hit by a car in revere. it happened on malden street just after seven last night. we' re told the victim has serious injuries. the driver of the car stayed on the scene and was also taken to the hospital. erika: right now, firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked a fire in worcester that killed an elderly brother and sister. the flames broke out around 8 last night on burncoat street and spread quickly. neighbors say the siblings lived in the single family home for decades. by the time firefighters arrived on scene most of the damage had already been done.

under arrest, accused of trying to burn down his mother' s home while she was in it. 27-year-old justin kane was arrested in salem last night. police say he had an argument with his mother and then poured gasoline on the rear deck of her home and set it on fire. officers arrested him at his father' s house. his mother was not hurt. emily: commitment 2016: today bernie sanders is hitting the campaign trail in new hampshire. >> it is an insurgency campaign that is taking on all elements of the establishment. >> the democrat spent sunday in iowa making at least four stops in the critical battleground state. the iowa caucus is just 7 weeks away. on the republican side ben carson doubled down on his threat to leave the gop if the party engages in what he calls back room deals.

emily: closing arguments are underway in the trial of the first police officer charged in connection with the death of freddie gray. william porter is accused of manslaughter for not paying attention to gray, as he sat handcuffed and shackled in the the city' s mayor says people must respect whatever the jury decides. she' s also opened an emergency operations center as a precaution. gray' s death triggered several nights of violent riots and looting. emily: the fbi and local police are investigating acts of vandalism at two different california mosques as hate crimes. a device that looked like a hand grenade was left in the driveway of one mosque sunday. investigators determined it was a plastic replica. another mosque was spray painted way. these are the latest in a handful of incidents at mosques across the country since the san bernardino shootings. erika: take a look at the raging flames. a massive warehouse fire burning in columbus, ohio

hundred feet into the air. much of the building has collapsed. students from at least two area schools got the day off. neighbors in a nearby apartment complex were forced to evacuate. erika: online retail giant amazon is pulling some types of hoverboards after reports of several of them bursting into flames. amazon says it will no longer carry boards made by swagway until safety reviews of the products are complete. the problem may be connected to boards that use lithium batteries which can sometimes burst into flames. emily: a neighborhood jumps into action after a giant hot air balloon gets into trouble. the balloon seen floating into a tree over san diego, california the flames dangerously close to the branches. the pilot, hoping for help from the ground, toss out a rope, the neighbors pulling the balloon safely to the ground. instead of panicking the whole
