to end up in a ditch. right now, a major decision is looming that will have a big impact on your finances. and the world is watching. erika: the eyeopener' s juli mcdonald is live in boston' s financial district with what we can expect in just hours. juli? juli: that is right, emily and erika. economists expect the federal reserve will raise interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade. this is a move that will impact markets not just here but around the world. here' s what we know right now. the fed is widely expected to hike that key interest rate by a quarter of a point. it' s been near zero since december 2008. basically the hike makes it more expensive for americans to get a mortgage or finance a car loan. the fed has been slow to hike rates, waiting for surer signs of economic recovery. today' s rate hike is far from the only concern on wall street. investors will be more concerned about any signals from the fed about future rate hikes,
