times from boston, 3/4 of a mile, up to the maine and new hampshire coastline. also worcester, down to 3/4 of a mile and then we have the rain so far most of it has been light here but it's somewhat heavier out across worcester county and towards connecticut. this rain goes all the way down it will be with us for most of tonight. first bands of heavier rain showing up around hartford, bridgeport and eastern long island so i would say after 8:00 tonight, those heavier bands will be moving into the boston area and some of to him could be very heavy. lightning and thunder is even possible. this will last into the wee hours of the morning. it will be foggy in areas and maybe drizzly early tomorrow but the heavier rains will be offshore by then. 48 in boston now. but everything with the wind switching to the southwest tomorrow indicates we'll be well up into the 60's to maybe touching 70 and that's easily going to be a record breaking warm christmas eve. >> this is something you expect to see maybe in the summertime but

>> enjoy yourself. >> harvey, we've got a lot of rain to talk about. >> we do and we certainly don't have snow to talk about. as a matter of fact, as you know, we've not had any measurable snow. last winter at this point in boston, with just under three inches the average would be almost seven. of course, we all know what happened later last winter so you can't put to it bed just because so it's slow to start. in terms of the latest snowfall or first measurable, boston, january 3, that was back in the year 2000. worcester, december 24, so it looks like that record will get broken. by measurable we mean at least a 10th of an inch a chance of a white christmas based on history. almost always in northern new england. not always here in southern new england but certainly not going to be the case this time around. if you want to look at different cities, boston has a one in five chance on average but this year it's a zero chance. same thing for province. i'm not sure, they did get a little snow but whatever they

we're dealing with rain and it's starting to get steadier and will get heavier in bursts. the first real heavy burst is across southwestern connecticut, southern connecticut, long island, all moving northeastward. rain for the next couple of hours and heavier bands. maybe a rumble of thunder late tonight into the wee hours of the morning. that steady rain is gone by tomorrow. earlier tomorrow, still foggy and drizzly but after that i'm not sure if the skies will brighten. if they don't we're in the 60's and if they do we could hit 70. rainfall overnight, areas could get over an inch of rain. poor visibility right now in boston. city cam can't see a thing. 48 degrees. breeze off the ocean and we do have that limited visibility along the maine-new hampshire coast. worcester county. 3/4 of a mile here in boston. wind is out of the east but the wind will switch to the southwest tomorrow. and once that happens, then the warmth comes in. here's

so we'll see those temperatures actually go up toward morning. continue to climb tomorrow. probably reaching around 70 degrees in boston. be a record. worcester as well. a few breaks in the clouds tomorrow afternoon. christmas day. in terms of dry weather. sunshine. clouds, however, near the south coast because the front that comes through and turns it a trifle cooler will never get that far south and a wave of low pressure moves along so back into the clouds and some damp weather for saturday. into early sunday. here's a look at your next seven days. very warm tomorrow. it's still very mild on christmas day. and then saturday, cooler, some damp weather, a few showers on sunday. warm south of boston. then cooler to the north. the patriots will be down in the meadowlands. it looks to be about 60 degrees for their game on sunday. we have to watch early next week because sunday night and monday, much chillier air will move in and a storm will move in on tuesday which could begin as a snow or mix. after that, it favors a change
