vehicle stolen out of beverly. the driver ran off, but the suv kept going, crashing into the walnut street cafe. no one was hurt, but the driver is due in court today. to laconia, new hampshire, where a mother and infant were hit overnight. it happened on north main street. police say a driver was turning when he hit the woman and her baby carriage. the impact caused the three-month-old to fall out. fortunately, the baby suffered only minor injuries. erika: right now, a mother and daughter are facing a judge, accused of a costly hoax on christmas eve that put many s sera congi is live in haverhill with new details just revealed, sera? sera: we learned this morning the search that was launched based on a false report ended up costing $50,000 and involving responders. a mother and daughter accused of

a massive and costly search effort. it was christmas eve, the women called 911 from their balcony claiming a man through a baby over the, bridge and into the merrimack river. a helicopter and dive team were delployed. it turned out to be a hoax. 42-year-old holly fowler and her 23-year-old christine charged with making a false 911 call and obstructing a police investigation. the prosecutor told the judge there are indications of mental illness. >> i' m speaking with the police and there may be mental health issues in regards to both of them. sera: a mental health clinician met with both the mother and daughter this morning and now the judge has requested a psychiatrist come to court and meet with the mother. no bail has been determined. sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5.

was, camera. police are searching for two men who wrapped -- robbed the shell gas station tuesday morning. both suspects kickoff with a undisclosed amount of cash. erika: a charlton man accused in a case of road rage at the auburn mall. the man telling police he was having a bad day when he smashed another driver' s windshield with his bare fist after reportedly trying to run the other man and his two children off the road. the suspect has not yet been charged, but will be summoned to court. a tough ride for drivers on the mass pike in charlton this morning after this car carrier caught fire. it happened on the eastbound side, closing the right two lanes. the incident was cleared quickly, but caused some residual traffic backups. doug: utter destruction in texas. homes leveled and at least 11 people killed by a series of tornadoes. that' s just some of the devastation caused by a monster storm that' s marching across the country right now.

deadly system. lauren: twisters ripping through arkansas. this after a string of tornadoes blasted through a 40 mile swath of texas this weekend. carving a path as wide as a football field. police saying at least 11 were killed. >> that' s a tornado. lauren: the tornado bringing wind of up to 180 miles per hour. descending onto interstate 30 where eight were killed and hundreds of homes damaged. >> all this is gone. >> just grateful we are alive. lauren: in the midwest, historically heavy downpours producing flash flooding and killing at least 15. a state of emergency declared in missouri after floodwaters engulfed homes. swept away are these and shut down major highways.

fine because it' s finally chilly. cindy: it is. we are doing something we haven' t done all month. it' s not getting to 40 degrees. this has been an incredibly warm december and the coldest day. you have it for a winter storm. i show you this wide picture, if you are looking for snow, concorde, new hampshire on northward will bear the brunt of it across central and northern new england. a wide swath of more than six inches of snow and parts of maine could get over a foot. because we will see it initially changeover to sleet and freezing rain and icing may be a concern. the key to this is bad timing for the morning commute. so 6:00 tomorrow morning with snow.

arraignment into the afternoon -- rain into the afternoon. there will be precipitation changing forms as the day wears on. no precipitation out there today. morning. temperatures have gone nowhere. we started at 35 this morning. it has fallen a couple of wind. it has added a chill, wind chills in the teens and 20' s. quite a shock to the system after the warm weather we' ve had. the temperatures are stuck in the upper 20' s in or 70 this worcester county. it is the northerly wind draining down the cold air that has been locked in canada until recently. this will be key. high pressure to the north training the cold as the storm system pulls up. it is spinning through arkansas and snow on the backside. snow has changed to ice around chicago. severe weather out ahead of it.

what we will be tracking tonight. if you have things to do, clouds will increase with wind chills in the teens and 20' s. temperatures where they are between 30 and 35. thickening clouds during the evening. by midnight or after, that first initial burst of snow breaks out across the area. it will snow for several hours and by 6:00 tomorrow morning, notice south of boston the pink color indicating we are changing the snow over to a mix. sleet and eventually freezing rain. we will hand onto snow north of boston up to merrimack valley through midmorning. thereafter, rain taking over to the south with sleet and midday. finance time, inside a 495, easterly wind allows icing to linger over the interior. snow will not be all that

couple of inches in most spots into merrimack valley and southern new hampshire and far northern washington county. icing is a bigger concern because freezing rain may persist outside of 495 into the afternoon. while those easterly winds allows temperatures closer to the coast line to warm up to 40 degrees or higher. orange running and the lower 40' s right up to concorde, new hampshire. traveling tomorrow may be tricky into the afternoon. we get a break in the action on wednesday morning, another system is approaching wednesday afternoon. that will bring in some rain s. late in the day out into the overnight, rain could linger into thursday morning as well. partly cloudy skies expected our first night activity and temperatures not far from 40. overall new year' do not look like they will be impacted by whether. s completely different.
