patches of drizzle. it is below freezing so anything that is falling will freeze on contact. temperatures in the 20's this morning. 25 boston and 23 worcester. the cape is closer to 40. a lot of crouk out there this morning. the clouds will hang with -- a lot of cloud cover this morning. the clouds will hang with us most of the day. today will be a dry day. we start out in the 20's the clouds this morning. reaching that freezing mark by mostly cloudy skies. mixed 40's down on cape cod. during the daylight hours, primarily dry. in the overnight hours, notice the rain coming in. thkeds start as a little touch of freezing rain. we'll talk more about that coming up in just a bit. let's get out to the roads.

olessa: yep. you want to be careful. the smaller streets might be a bit tricky. let's see your trip as you travel into boston. no construction to contend with but just be careful on those roads. south of town, no problem s along the pike. so far a quiet start as you travel down from new hampshire. erika: for a smoother ride after emergency repairs turned the ride home into a nightmare. reporter: here on the red line the concern is cold and potential icey conditions. that triggers severe delays on tuesday.

different problem. it was not weather-related. this loose metal grate in a tunnel was the issue, not the weather. train service was shut down between bowdoin and maverick station while crews made repairs. hundreds of blue line passengers has to wait for the 45 emergency shuttle buses sent by the t. many of them were already packed when they arrived to pick up passengers. >> you pay all of this money and they increase the rates every year or every other year and this is what you get. reporter: it took about an hour for bus service to catch up with demand. blue line service is expected to run normally today. we'll be watching conditions here and bring you updates as we get them. erika: other stories we're following.

involving secret service agents. a car crossed a center line and hit them head on. the two passengers were taken to the hospital as were the secret service agents. it is not clear whether they have serious injuries . randy: water from torrential rain caused part s of two highways to shut down in illinois. erika: the so-called affluenza and his mother are expected to return to the u.s. today to face charges. and now we're learning it was a pizza order that led police to ethan couch at a resort in he and his mother were arrested there monday after couch violated probation, for killing four people in a drunk driving crash. couch avoided jail time when the defense argued he was coddled

rich parents. right now a family is reeling from a grizzly discovery of one of their loved ones. randy: doug? reporter: almost two years to the day that he vanished, family members say the search is over after his remains were found in the woods in upton. james robinson was taken from the avon home by two men who said he was needed for a probation-related drug test. the men said they were constables and had a document with robertson's photo on it. four men have been charged in connection with the kidnapping including a former dedham police officer. he's accused of providing a badge, handcuffs and other items to the suspects. right now, only robertson's family is confirming that his remains were found by that hunter this weekend. we're waiting for comment from

randy: doug, thank you. two people are hurt after being hit by a snow plow in tyngsboro. happened yesterday, in a restaurant parking lot on the man and woman are both expected to recover. was operating the plow. that person did stay on the scene. a drive-by shooting in mattapan were both in state custody. the department of youth services tells the herald both teens were they were shot on willmore street yesterday morning, one injuries, but the other is expected to survive. police are now looking for a black acura seen leaving the area. erika: the future of a boston bar could be decided. police have made an arrest in the case a rockland mother who's

home. but this morning, there's a community effort to help maureen . o'haire. yesterday her home went up in flames. it's the house she once shared with her son, marine lance corporal walter o'haire. he was killed in iraq in 2007. o'haire has also lost her husband, mother, and another son. this morning, she's thankful no one else was lost to the fire. >> they're just things, just things. i have my kids, and my life, and i'll firgure something out. the family recover what they the red cross and other agencies are also providing assistance. firefighters say the fire may have been electrical. randy: 4:37. airport. erika: a grieving mother talking about a fire that killed her young son. randy: twitter cracking down on certain behavior.

notice all the cloud cover throughout the day. there is no real forcing mechanism to dry us out. we may see a glimpse or two of sunshine. that will be the extent of it. this is going to bring in that rounds of rain tonight. high temperatures today in the mid 30's. that is it from the worcester hills to the merrimack valley. a little bit of melting happening today. during the daylight hours, it is mainly dry. up until this evening, the evening commutes looks dry as well. overnight, 10:00, 11:00, seeing rain come in from the south. as mentioned, to the north, may be just cold enough for a touch of that freezing drizzle. notice what happens by 6:00 tomorrow morning.

about her pain and heartbreak after escaping a fire that killed her 4-year-old son. in hours investigators will be back on the scene trying to figure out what sparked the fire. melody nardolillo talking to newscenter 5 yesterday from her hospital bed. it was on december 19 that flames swept through the family's home. nardolillo says she tried to get to her son, caleb, but the flames and smoke were too much. his teacher brought a gift he made to the hospital a heartbreaking reminder of the young life tragically taken. >> where is the pain? >> my neck, my break, my heart, my soul. erika: nardolillo is out of the hospital this morning. she says she was planning on moving out of the house after learning of electrical violations. the building inspector has not returned our calls about interaction with the landlord concerning those past

randy: twitter is cracking down amid calls for the social media site to take a harder line on threats and abusive behavior. twitter revised it's rules of conduct to emphasize that those kinds of tweets are prohibited. the policy says twitter will not tolerate behavior that harasses, intimidates or uses fear to silence another user's voice. erika: on the democratic side. hillary clinton is wrapping up her day in new hampshire, where the first primary will be held in 6 weeks. clinton hosted town halls in portsmouth and ber-lin. she discussed opioid addiction, equal pay for women and challenged gun owners to take the lead on more gun control. >> it is really time for gun owners to form a different organization that will do more on gun safety and do more on gun responsibility and stand up for the safety of our children and

erika: her husband, former president bill clinton will make his first campaign stop in new hampshire on monday. the latest polls put clinton neck and neck with bernie sanders in the granite state. topping economic headlines this morning, wall street will be watching for new home sales data today. right now stock futures are down. asian markets were mixed overnight in light pre-holiday trading. randy: and the housing market keeps recovering from the recession. according to an analysis by moody's analytics, single-family house prices in about 40% of 400 metro areas are now at or above their pre-recession peak. that's up from 30% a year ago. overall, home prices are still 12% below peak, but moody's expects prices to keep climbing. locally, there are new signs that home prices are soaring well beyond boston. the median price of a single family home was $340,000 for the first 11 months of this year. that's up 2.3%.

facebook. they show what appears to be a light, shining inside an abandoned hospital in new orleans. a nurse, who works at a hospital directly across from this building, snapped the photo. the new orleans advocate reports it's two two-by-fours, wrapped in lights. we don't know why. an apology for a jolting wake-up call. erika: the mistake that annoyed some commerce.

and 5:00 in the morning. the call, reminding patients to get their flu shots, was supposed to go out between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m, tufts calls it an unfortunate mistake. erika: a judge will not drop murder charges against a friend of former patriot aaron hernandez. the motion was rejected yesterday. an indictment charges carlos ortiz with one count of murder for the 2013 killing of odin lloyd. hernandez is serving life in prison for lloyd's murder. ortiz and another friend, ernest wallace have pleaded not guilty. randy: revere police are looking for this man, vicheth so, in connection to a double murder earlier this month. he's a second suspect in the deaths of peter pitari and cristy johnson. the victims were shot inside an apartment; a third person was wounded but survived. another suspect was arrested the day after the killings. a big night for the jimmy hayes erika: down at the garden. the dorchester native had his first career hat trick, helping the b's snag a 7-3 win over ottawa. next up for the team, the winter

the sleet in there. that was the big issue yesterday. it was very slippery yesterday morning. the highest totals coming out of southern new hampshire. concorde had 1.8 and boston officially just under one inch and that is not the latest we have seen our first measurable snow this season. that was back on january 3 in 2000. certainly late. in fact the fifth latest on record that we have gotten measurable snow. at this point last year we had almost three inches. we got a little taste of it yesterday. not expecting more snow today. you can see showers up near the canadian border. there is a little system off to the west and emily: to the south. this is going to be somewhat problematic for us overnight as we're getting another round of rain coming in.
