week's a plus. >> this is newscenter 5 at 5:00. >> you may not want to harriet but more freezing rain is on the way. >> just like yesterday you'll want to be careful when you head out. harvey leonard here to break down the timing. >> many areas have never gotten to the freezing mark during the course of today. untreated surfaces are still very slippery. that's going into tonight. the freezing rain advisory goes into effect from 7:00 to 3:00 tomorrow morning but even now, there is still some pocket of freezing drizzle around the region. i also want to point out the temperatures. notice from boston to worcester and points north it's still below freezing. providence to plymouth and points south above. these areas will stay the same inch up. areas north and west will pretty much hold steady just cold enough so we could have additional issues. untreated

we have to talk about the foggy areas. fog developing from the mass pike southward. visibility, a quarter of a mile at worcester. 3/4 of a mile at plymouth. another dicey night. the good news is that it will turn milder in a little while. >> bill cosby is now charged with drugging and sexually assaulting a woman. >> he's free on $1 million in pennsylvania. >> the comedian has faced so many allegations over the years but today for the first time he charges. >> bill cosby's wholesome image now challenged by prosecutors who are charging whim aggravated indecent assault the comedian stumbled into a pennsylvania courthouse where for the first time he faced felony charges. >> mr. cosby urged her to take

he provided to her, and to drink wine. the effect of which rendered unable to move, respond, to his advances. >> the allegations go back 12 years but the new charges stem from incriminating statements prosecutors say cosby made in a 2005 deposition, after a woman he mentored filed a civil suit against him in. that deposition, cosby admitted he had given quaaludes to women but said the pills to her were ben benadryl, and he's maintained his innocence. >> for many of my clients who allege they are victims of bill cosby, seeing him criminally charged and having to face a trial is the best christmas present that they have ever received. >> now the statute of limitations has run out for those other accusers in. this case, statute of limitations would have expired in just a month.

today. >> new questions tonight about man. his remains discovered two years after he went missing. there are four people already kidnapping. we're live from avon with an update. todd: behind me is his home. the last place they saw him alive. family and investigators want to the four people charged in his kidnapping death. >> within 72 hours, they found a skull in the woods, which led to us a homicide investigation. >> mystery solved almost exactly two years after the fact. jamie robertson, a 37-year-old father of two, disappeared new year's day 2014. he was kidnapped from his parent's home in avon by two men constables, who

a probation related drug activist. his parents told us last month they had a premonition that their father was murdered. they found a skull and worked the scene into the night. eventually bones and clothing were also found. at a press conference this morning, the worcester and norfolk d.a. explained how the remains were identified. >> yesterday, using dental records and other evidence, which determined that the remains found were those of james j. robertson. >> four men have been connection with the kidnapping. at the press conference today michael said it's too soon to say if and when homicide charges will be filed. >> we have to follow the evidence and the evidence is still actively being gathered and they are continuing to work. >> prosecutors are not yet commenting on a possible motive. the medical examiner is working to determine the cause and manner of jamie robertson's death.

the media didn't pay attention to him. he had no voter support. reporter: jeb bush is campaigning in south carolina. chris christie in iowa. live in washington, wcvb, newscenter 5. >> the top u.s. commander in afghanistan may be looking for more u.s. troops on the ground. the army general says the planned troop reduction in 2017 should be put off. he says, for as long as possible. he called the current mission to conduct antiterror raids vital. last week six were killed by a suicide bomber just outside an air force base. a new poll shows americans place higher priority on defending religious freedoms for christians than muslims. the associated press poll found 82% say religious liberty protections are important for christians. that number drops to 70% for those of the jewish faith and 61% for muslims. experts say the finding reflects

hard over the weekend including deadly tornados. at least 11 people were killed. most of the damage is in the northern part of the state. >> and in missouri, historic flooding has forced people along the mississippi and illinois rivers to seek higher ground. this rescue of a man and dog showing just how dangerous the conditions are. some sections have yet to crest. that dangerous situation has forced mandatory evacuations. >> near the iconic st. louis arch the mighty mississippi river has spilled over. residents have been evacuated and others say they haven't seen flooding like this in more than 20 years. >> back in 1993, he had notice it would get bad but this time it popped up in like two days. >> across the state nearly 600 roads and highways are close. entire neighborhoods cut off. this mcdonald's surrounded by flood waters. this gas station

affecting the surface. so you wonder why, are we getting this freezing rain. >> my least favorite of everything. >> it's like a skating rink. >> my driveway yesterday, i got all the way up the hill and couldn't get into the garage. skating. weren't alone. you had a lot of company. tonight. >> let's show you what's going on. boston has not made it to the freezeings mark so far. around midnight but it hasn't happened yet. 30 degrees. that's it for boston. and this is a below average day. you say, okay, so what? a little below average. what's the big deal? this month. the very first day was just a bit below average. and this day is just a bit below average but in between, not only above, way above. story. normal. we clearly are going to have the warmest december on record, right up to date now including today, this is the average temperature for the month. 45.3. now, the record that we're

smash, not just break, 2006, the warmest one, the average was 41. look only, a few 10ths of a degree separate each one and we're going to break that by about four full degrees. only two days left. so it's certainly one for the record books. that's quite obvious. boston's visibility not too bad. 30 degrees. but the wind is very light but still training out of the north. it may become more easterly, several hours from now, that will help the immediate shoreline including boston. bump up a little bit. for now, freezing and below from boston to norwood and all areas north and west. only a little bit colder to the north as most of the cold air has been used up but there is still just enough left and it's just a little above freezing from plymouth to taunton to province and new bedford. so here's the visibility. notice the restriction around the plymouth area. also worcester county.

western massachusetts. quarter mile visibility at worcester airport. we may very well see the visibility come down and we may have some intermittent freezing drizzling before we get the steadier rain later on. the official advisory for freezing vain from 7:00 to 3:00 a.m. tomorrow. now, this is bulk of the precipitation. a lot of it is going to either pass south or affect southeastern massachusetts and the cape but more is starting to develop up here and that's what will move across our region later on tonight so as far as the steadiest rain, it does move into the region late tonight and toward midnight. with us in the wee hours of the morning. remember, especially north and west of boston, borderline and may still freeze on untreated surfaces. tomorrow morning, early, rain comes to an end and a few breaks in the clouds during the afternoon and that sets us up for better weather for both new year's eve and new year's day. both look to be dry and that's certainly very important and very appreciative, i think, by all of us. the temperatures will respond some tomorrow so we'll get to 40

plains and into the upper 30's inland areas. some of you who got a lot of work with it during the course of the day tomorrow. new year's eve, 40 degrees. at 6:00 in boston. 34 or 35 towards midnight. if you're going to be around, there will be an active breeze that that's your story. tomorrow. ahead to friday, another big event going on. that of course is the winter classic. about 39 degrees, but keep in mind, there will be a gusty wind 10 to 20. at times it will feel as cold as being in the 20's. after that we have a seasonably cold weekend but a shot of very cold air comes in on sunday night, monday, monday night and tuesday morning, and in addition, sunday night and monday morning, right along the coast especially the south shore and cape there, may be some ocean effect snow or flurries with cold air passing over the
