what's happening there. frank: missouri is now an official disaster area. the president just made that declaration, clearing the way for federal help throughout the recovery. more than 10 inches of rain fell in just three days sending the mississippi river to historic levels. as the waters recede, people in missouri and illinois are being evacuated. >> when you talk about a 50-foot crest here, that's something nobody has ever seen. >> living on the river, you expect floods. you never expect to have this though. frank: the flood threat will hang over the region for weeks. communities are far south as louisiana are checking their levees. karen: now let's check in with our own weather forecast. doug and danielle. doug: danielle is standing by here. you've been hard at work. we're going to talk some snow, i guess. the big question, are skiers going to be happy with it? danielle: today ski country is getting a little bit of snow especially in northern maine but some snow tomorrow into tuesday. it's actually ocean-effect snow so we're talking, yes, the cape and the coastline seeing some

especially at the coast, talking plymouth county as well as down towards the cape and the islands. it will ramp up as we head towards monday night and tapering off tuesday morning for you folks on the cape. the cape looks like it will get the greatest amounts in terms of totals. we're going to talk more about that in just a second but so far boston only picking .9 inches of snow up this year. last year we were already at 2.9 inches of snow. and our normal pace should be about 10.7 inches of snow, but you remember last year. we had 110.6 inches of snow. most of that falling after january 23. all right. we have an area of low pressure and a cold front to the north and west. this is going to dip down and bring in the cold air that sets in place that will then help to get those ocean-effect snow showers going. it is the coldest air we've seen thus far this winter season. right now turning up a couple of snow showers for northern vermont and northern maine. for us, just some clouds out there this morning.
