5:00. jc: new at 5:00, a boston police officer shot. we are learning more. phil: the officer was shot in tonight. morning on mount bowdoin terrace the officer hit was working with the city' s drug unit. newscenter 5 has team coverage for you tonight. we begin with jack harper, live in dorchester, jack? jack: for the drug unit, this was a routine stop, or it should have been. but this time the suspect came out of the car shooting. >> the suspect is identified as grant headley, who is 27 years of age from dorchester, got out

unprovoked of the officer. the officer quickly exchanged gunfire. jack: the injured officer hit in the leg, a nine year veteran with the drug unit, stopping grant headley, who police knew was driving without a license. commissioner evans: he was locked up in 2012. he was released in april last year. he was out on probation. he was out selling drugs. that is why he was pulled over. >> i am atmount bowdoin terrace, shot. dispatcher: ok, sir. help is on the way. commissioner evans: the leg was bleeding pretty good. jack: still others chasing down grant headley, a man running with a gun. commissioner evans: they were able to tackle the suspect and

jorge: folks who live around here say events like this it gave the entire community of bad rap. they are thinking the boston police for their artwork and are praying for the officer who was shot. wcvb newscenter 5. jc: 5 investigates the first with information as the shooting unfolded. karen anderson has new details about the suspect. karen: sources are telling 5 investigates grant headley had 40 criminal arraignments, and was also a known gang member. his criminal history goes back to 2005, when he was 16 years old, already catching the strike force. they were out of the caribbean festival at that time, and they found a semiautomatic handgun.

a north andover plant. four workers were hurt in that blast. and tonight, crews pulled something else out of that building. let' s get to sera congi. sera? sera: hazmat and fire crews are leaving the scene after they captured the vessel at the center of the six lotion. that vessel, which is the size of a basketball, was safely removed by state police. after nearly 24 hours, hazmat crews finished clearing the lab so investigators could go in. trimethyl aluminum reacted to water, causing the explosion. that has been moved from the seen and taken and rendered safe at a distant location. four men were in that lab. they were injured, suffering

were sexually assaulted at st. s school in the 70' 80' s. after weeks of public pressure, the school will appoint a new independent investigator to oversee the investigation. the board is hoping to appoint -- that happens sometime next week. the panel in charge of monitoring sex offenders in massachusetts is facing a huge backlog. the registry board has been forced to hire 3 new hearing officers. this comes as more than 500 offenders are expected to be removed at least temporarily from the registry because of a recent court ruling. that ruling sets new standards for how offenders can be classified. jc: chief meteorologist harvey leonard joins us. the weekend is here and we know how important are we can forecast our. harvey: they are very important. it' s depends on how you look at it. jc: right. harvey: if you' re thinking sunshine, just forget it. jc: right.

will not be any big storms. jc: it' s always a trade-off. harvey: look at the temperature up around worcester and keene, new hampshire. it' s that area where we will develop missed tonight that is borderline, could be a little bit of freezing drizzle. the wind will be off the water, that will keep it above freezing. once we get north and west of 495, a major up a little bit below. you can see with the easterly wind, we already have the clouds -- it would not take much to create pockets of drizzle. that is the concern. not a major one, not widespread, but in pockets if possible. there could be slippery going, especially in the higher terrain of worcester county, the berkshires, things like that. much more specific heavy precipitation. i will time that out for you

tonight, police say that man, 30-year-old edward archer has confessed and says he did it in the name of islam. he also pledged his allegiance to isis. the officer was shot 13 times. he is in serious condition. the gun used in the attack is a police firearm that was stolen from a home. today marks the fifth anniversary of the deadly shooting at a tucson, arizona constituent event. the 2011 shooting left six dead and 13 injured including former u.s. congresswomen gabby giffords. today, a local fire station hosted the annual bell ringing ceremony where the mayor rang a bell 19 times once for each victim. the city also held a ceremony at the hospital where many of the victims were treated five years ago. phil: this is new at 5:00 . settlements have been reached in the case of a fatal accident outside the yield-harvard -- yale-harvard football game. this was five years ago.

the victims family sued the fraternity. this week a settlement was reached. the truck driver, who was a frat member, was charged with negligent homicide, but that charge will disappear once he fulfills probation and community service. jc: more on the breaking news out of mexico, the drug lord el chapo has been captured. you' ll remember this summer he escaped from a maximum security prison for the second time. el chapo guzman captured, taken down in a raid. mexico' s president tweeting "we have him." one of the most dangerous drug lords in the world has been on the run for seven months. his daring escape from this maximum-security prison sparked an international manhunt and

could be pockets that act is freezing drizzle and make in this area, there can be issue into tomorrow morning. the rest of our area stays above freezing, so not a concern in that department. tomorrow afternoon, areas will be above freezing, so anything that does fall would still be in liquid form. but with the wind of the ocean, it' s already cloudy, no sunshine there might be reciprocation out of the berkshires. most of this will lift to the northwest, give a little additional precipitation. talking about a big storm of wind, warmth, and rain. so, here is the timeline for you. drizzle scattered across the region into tomorrow night. it' s not until we get to sunday morning that we start to see heavier rains make the approach

the timing here is in question only in the sense that will it be late morning to late afternoon or during the afternoon? there will be an unusually warm air mass and there could even be a thunderstorm. how much rain could fall out of this? one or two inches. there will be a time of strong winds out of southeastern mass and the cape. they could be 45 miles per hour, even greater. it will be windy on monday as well, but it will be a lot colder. record warm -- at least record-tying, seems like a possibility. you know the story on tomorrow and the warmth of sunday, but next week could be a different story. the jet stream shifts. it looks drive for most of next week -- there could be light snow or flurries tuesday afternoon or tuesday night.
