it is cold and windy. back in. we are talking snow? harvey: looks like this time tomorrow and some areas affected slightly more than others. the the area of snow is right down in the lower great lakes. you can see it in chicago and southern michigan. that's what we are talking about roughly this time tomorrow evening. we start the day with a little sun on the cape. the clouds thicken and notice as we get to 6:00, 7:00 it is snowing north and west of boston and accumulating especially in the higher terrain like worcester county hills. that's a mix in and around boston. the air above is cold, and in the lower layers it is causing a wet snow and wet snow and rain. it is a close toss up between rain and snow around boston. a small storm. even where it is all storm in our area an inch or two is what i would expect in the higher terrain. anywhere from 0 to 1 is what

more cold to talk about and that is coming up in a few minutes. heather? heather:right now $3 million worth of drugs is off the streets. the discovery made in a talks -- tewksbury apartment. jack has the big operation that was broke up. reporter: it happened in tewksbury and according to investigators it is a very big deal. they feel it is a hiewnl step in in -- a huge step in the right direction. >> this is a critical piece in getting it valued at well over $7 million off the streets. >> middlesex investigators are charging louis perez and hill do with running a major opioid operation. they seized three kilos of fentanyl and heroin or both. >> although it looks like heroin it can be several -- almost 100 times more potent. reporter: attorneys for both defendants denying they were

>> there is nothing in the report that indicates what was in the grocery bags was drugs or anything related to drugs. reporter: they didn't explain bricks. the dangerous and synthetic drug used to mix with heroin. gets that. they have no way of knowing if they use the substance how fentanyl. reporter: the judge set a high bail in this case $10 million and deaf -- and 7.5 million respectively. phil: the search is on for the cause of a deadly fire. the flames are so intense that both neighbors and firefighters were stopped from rushing in to help. let's get to nicole who is live in gloucester where she talked to the friends of the victim. nicole? reporter: that's right. authorities are withholding the victim's name. but the neighbors and friends tell us he lived in this home

he was well known here. they were called to hammond drive. >> and as daylight broke they were looking for clues as to what caused the fire. the sad reality began to sink in. >> when i got up i was shocked. i i couldn't believe it. reporter: inside this home on the second floor they found the body of the sole resident. a man who grew up as a child and lived here as an adult. >> all my life he grew up with my son. he used to come around the older son who was 53 years old now. reporter: the man who was in his 50s is well known and kept to himself. >> the only guy that belonged. reporter: when firefighters arrived just before 4:00 on monday morning they say a car in the driveway alerted them to the possibility that someone might be inside. >> their attempts to get up

were -- you know, they were beat back by the fires. reporter: a rescue attempt cut short by a wall of fire. just a few moments ago we did speak with investigators. they did tell us the cause remains under investigation. live in gloucester, wcvb newscenter 5. heather:thank you. a 9-year-old syrian refugee who lost his arms will be in the state of the union tomorrow night. they were staying in massachusetts and there was help from the new day syria. it injured the boy and killed three siblings. they sent the president a letter asking him to help syrian refugees. this will be president obama's final state of the union address. he is expected to discuss economic growth and address terrorism fears in tomorrow's speech. you can watch it live here on

investigating the cause of her death. frannie's wish was to be buried with her deceased husband, but she was cremated instead. they discovered an apprentice when working with a casper medical funeral home they are working with the body of the man with the same last name and was given the body with frannie hickey. when we spoke with frannie's brother he blamed the funeral home and the crematorie for this horrible mistake. >> we are very hurt. reporter: now more than two years later in this consent agreement with the state, the brothers who operate the funeral home will pay $10,000 in fines. they are continuing to complete the education and the funeral director's license is on a six-month probation.

one place to go to another, this should be a double check. it is just a disaster. reporter: and the license of the apprentice who picked up frannie's body has been suspended for six months. her family has filed a civil suit in this case. kathy curran, 5 investigates. heather:so i can frame it, we were in florida until we landed and when we landed it wasn't anywhere near as cold as we thought. ed: how come i wasn't in florida? heather:lynchy was there too. >> look at those numbers. it is a lot different than it was 24 hours ago. it is a different world. let's show you that. look at the temperature difference between now and 24 hours ago. worcester is 33 degrees colder than it was yesterday at this time. the winds will slowly ease, but it does look like the snow

time of the evening commute tomorrow especially the middle and latter part of the commute. along i-95 and south and east and the low-level temperatures will be above freezing in those areas. farther off to the north and west it will be cold and a small accumulation. 30 degrees is the current temperature in boston and very dry air. the 13 mile per hour winds. the winds have come down and they are still steady at 15 miles an hour here. we have gusts to 25 and it is starting to come down and the trend will continue tonight. right now the windchill of 10 in worcester and 20 in boston. these will be the temperatures overnight and starting out your day early tomorrow. the teens and the low to mid20s. what gets critical are the temperatures as we approach the evening commute tomorrow. notice the i-95 belt south and east. a little above freezing. you go north and west especially the higher terrain it will be well below freezing when the snow begins.

the most. now this little system is over later tomorrow night and then the cold comes back all over again for a very cold and very windy day coming up on wednesday. the little system i'm talking about right here, the lower great lakes. it is small. it is one of the alberta clippers. it does president have moisture and it is fast moving. around the evening commute it could be wet snow. it could be a mix of the two. rain for the cape. north and west though it is a period of snow and then by midnight it is out of here and then the wind and the cold with some partial clearing takes over for wednesday. so i am estimating especially in the higher terrain, north and west of 128 and especially north and west of 495, one to two inches and the merrimack valley away from the immediate coast a good one to two inches. maybe an inch as you get closer to boston. northern new england will make out better especially the mountains of maine as the storm will be deeper and better organized as it gets there. here is the next seven days. the cold comes back on wednesday and it comes back

check this out. 30 to 40 mile per our wind gusts coming up on wednesday. and it stays cold on thursday. a slight moderation on friday and then we begin the fun on saturday. we take a storm and kind of right at us. it may redevelop on the coast. that means we are in for precipitation. we could begin late friday night and first thing on saturday. it looks like we will be border line as to rain versus snow. precipitation may still be falling and it may be starting to ease around the start of the game when the temperature should be around 32 degrees or so. that's my early estimate. but obviously we will have many updates before the game as the tricky situation evolves for saturday. see you later tonight. i'm harvey leonard. >> now sports center 5 with mike lynch. >> you know, how the song goes, rainy days and mondays may get people down, and i am about to present the sound that will lift you. julianed edelman is good to go in the game against kansas city.
