all hands on deck and everyone has to step up. brady: it creates this snowball effect. the game is out of hand. you know, this is what happened in houston. before you know it, they got a seven-point lead on the opening kick-off. you already feel like, man, we've start to get back into this game. you don't want to be down 14-0 in the middle of the second quarter. frank: big question here. who else is questionable for the pats have 12 players listed. gronk and chandler jones as we here are the other names that stand out-- julian edelman, rob vollmer. all are expected to play, and the patriots need everyone at their best to stop the chiefs' high-scoring offense. on the other side of the ball, threat-- wide receiver jeremy maclin-- also questionable. he's also expected to play. now coming up in just a few minutes, we're going to show you

few issues. later in the afternoon it diminishes out there. it will be a cool one but the rain should be over with. let me show you what it looks like over the city right now. a grave start. drippy at that. the temperature not very warm. 37 degrees. that's a cold rain out there. winds at 12 miles per hour. barometric pressure is falling rapidly as this nor'easter forms its way off shore and moves on out. the other big issue we have. check out these temperatures. there's a few spots that are on the chilly side. a little rain and cold surfaces. watch out. there could be a slippery spot here or there. now down to the south is where temperatures are just too warm. hyannis at 47 right now. nantucket is almost at 50 degrees whereas you look inland and the temperatures are are 20 degrees colder. here's what's happening right now. notice the swirl in the atmosphere. that's because this is the nor'easter coming in. you can see it seems to be strange talking about a nor'easter and not a major snowy vent. we're seeing the heavy bands down to the south. this one is lifting its way over to the outer cape. this is an interesting band to watch.
6:18 am
if you get an intense rain downburst, it can actually drag some of that cold air to the ground. this is showing up as rain right now, it could change over to a little bit of snow. as you get from worcester north ward we've been see inning pocket all morning long where it's been kind of an off-and-on mix. a little snow and rain and freezing rain. a very messy kind of in this area through 495 whereas inside of 49, the temperatures have been warm enough that it's been primarily a rain event. we've seen snow to the berkshires. that seems to be breaking up a little bit as well going over more to a rain event. watch out for a few icy spots outside of 495. this was never expected to be a big snow event. we could see one to two inches and some grassy accumulations with elevation off to the north and west. otherwise a few wet snow flakes mixed in. for most of us, it is a flat-out rain event. 10:0 this morning we're starting to push the heaviest rains off shore. temperatures into the 40's. we get it all out of here by 2:00 in the afternoon. the temperature goes down a

we won't warm up today. it will go down as we head through the afternoon hours. by the time we get to 56789. 30 we're dealing with reading into the 30's across the area. eventually it does clear out. we'll be all done with it early tomorrow morning if you have a puddle of water here or there might be some ice on it. that would be the only icy considering i would be worried about as we talk about tomorrow morning. let me break it down for you in our seven-day forecast. today chalk it off to rain especially this morning. we'll taper things off as we head through the afternoon. by the time we get to the game tonight, it looks like it will be drying out. it will be the-- the rain will be over. the northwesterly winds a little busy though with the gray skies out there. bundle up. it will feel more like it's it's into the 20's. a cold front coming through may trigger off a snow shower or two. you could get a coating to maybe two inches out of it but i'm in the looking for much out of that. the big story is behind that front, the cold air. notice how we look at highs on tuesday. actually monday and tuesday only into the 20's. a little bit of a modifying in the temperatures by the end of

doug: it's warm and dry in here. antoinette: got it right here snoik thank you very much. we don't have snow flakes you're brushing off. doug: that's nice. mike: you think about it. a nor'easter in january, guaranteed snow. but we're not seeing that. there is ice inland. there's a winter weather advisory until noon outside of 495. inside 495 it's until 8:00 this morning. be cautious. there might be a slippery spot here or there. there was never going to be a big snow event. because these temperatures are cool enough right in here untreated sur face surfaces you might have a few icy spots here and there. look at how this spinning its way up. imagine if this was last year. we'd be talking about a foot of snow at this point. right now it looks like we'll get an inch of rain out of the whole thing. this area here where we have been seeing a little bit of mixed precipitation going on and a little bit of ice it does seem to be diminish inning intensity. this rain down to the south is not diminishing one bit. there's that area that is not quite as organized as it was a couple of hours ago. again i would be cautious about

it will be a big concern for us today. 8:00 this morning, downpours across the area but by 10:00 we're starting to push it off shore. by noon we're winding things down. by this afternoon, we're gray skies. we'll talk though about those temperatures which will drop snow this weekend. all that in a few moments. antoinette and doug. antoinette: mike, thank you. the road to the superbowl. kansas city chiefs in the a.f.c. divisional playoffs. doug: the eyeopener's frank the short list of what you need to know about this matchup. frank? frank: this list is dominated by injuries. the patriots alone list twelve players as questionable including rob gronkowski and julian edelman. two big offensive stars. edelman keeps releasing hype videos on youtube; and while he says he's going to leave it all out on the field, he also hasn't played in two months. due to injury. and how about those chiefs?
6:31 am
with a strong defense and an offense based on a strong running game, a steady q.b. in alex smith, and the guy some call "gronk lite" at tight end, travis kelce. at least people in kansas city calls him that. but they too have a significant injury concern-- star wide a high ankle sprain in their playoff win over houston and hasn't practiced all week. >> you know, he's a great player. he's a threat. he can catch the ball and run with it. the guys will try to limit him. just go out there and play good football. it's win or go home. we're just doing our job. doing the best we can do to be prepared. frank: all of those questions won't be answered until 90 minutes before kickoff. when it comes to numbers, the chiefs have the pats beat. at least in the regular season. kansas city may have started the season 1-5. but they've now won 11 straight, their last loss was to the vikings in october.
6:32 am
after a 10-0 start, they're heading into the playoffs with four losses in their last six games. the pats do enter the play-offs a little bit wobbly. when you talk about experience in this game and we're talking about tom brady and bill bill check, they have so much experience. also two weeks of rest. you can really expect the team to be very strong when they take to the field later on this afternoon. more patriots play-off coverage coming up. we're going to take a look at the starting quarterbacks in this showdown. over. doug: it is concerning how so many people, patriots' fans are worried about this game. antoinette: i know. got to keep the faith, every one. doug: you have brady and belichick. all right. we are also following several other stories this morning. missing after a helicopter collision off the coast of rough seas are making it tough for rescue crews searching for survivors. 12 marines including corporal chris orlando from hingham were on board the choppers when they crashed yesterday. doug: a man wanted in connection with a new year's day sexual
