until 10:00 tomorrow morning. very slippery snow. the heaviest snowfall totals have been around freetown. we are seeing a lot of totals around one to two inches. a little less north of the city. lexington has 1.3. westborough fixing up to inches of snow right now. in here, there are bands of very light snow. other areas have steady bands that develop. we are seeing those in plymouth county. we also have this area toward 495. if you travel to the north shore, this little band setting up in essex county. i still have this arctic front coming through right around the time of the morning commute. that will shock a little more snow over top of us. generally a 2-4 inch snowfall total. maybe a touch more than four inches in some locations. a little ways down the road, it might be a whole lot less than that.

when this all moves out and the bitter cold that follows in a few moments. heather: thank you. right now, chelsea police warning the community about a violent attack. a woman slashed in the face while walking home from work, three men reportedly involved. our nicole estaphan is live in chelsea with the latest on the investigation. reporter: police tonight still looking for the three men they believe responsible for this attack. residents tell me they remain vigilant. a peaceful winter scene on lynch street in chelsea sunday night. stark contrast to what one woman' s has happened saturday evening. the unidentified victim says she was walking home from work around 9:30 when three masked men attacked her, punching, kicking, and slashing her several times before taking off. residents say even before they heard of the attack, they didn' t

>> i' m out no later than maybe 6:00 or 7:00. at 9:00, 9:30, it gets kind of wild. reporter: for those that have no choice, they take precautions. >> we try to stay off our phones, keep our heads up, walk fast, and make sure we are looking around our surroundings. reporter: according to police, the victim drove herself to the hospital where she was treated for serious injuries. while police say they have increased patrols, residents tell us they are now on high alert. >> it worries me. i' m scared. it makes me even more cautious. reporter: investigators are asking for the public' s help tonight. if you have any information about saturday night' s attack, call the chelsea police department. live in chelsea, nicole a stephan. reid: breaking news tonight, a hingham native and boston university grad is home tonight free after being held in iran.

trevithick and his family after an emotional reunion at logan airport just a little while ago. our rhondella richarson reports, he is part of a prisoner swap that also freed four other americans. >> we are overjoyed that he' s out. reporter: the parent of matt trevithick found out he' s coming home when he phoned yesterday at 4:52 a.m. >> it is the call we were hoping to get. he was on the way to the airport. reporter: the 33-year-old has been studying language in iran since september. he' s been in prison for 40 days. >> it' s been difficult. we got a lot of support from friends and family members. we were able to get through it. we appreciate all the help. reporter: the boston university grad received the young alumni award from his school and has been overseas since 2008.

two people found dead in a waltham home. the crime is being treated as a murder-suicide, and tonight our juli mcdonald has learned new information. she' s live in waltham tonight. reporter: a very somber day in this neighborhood not far from bentley university. the middlesex district attorney' s office hasn' t released a motive. the people who live here know they lost two neighbors in a terrible tragedy. >> we are so devastated right now. reporter: friends and neighbors are heartbroken, as they try to make sense of what led to the deaths of a couple on four street. the middle-class district attorney said police were called to the home around 5:00 saturday evening for a well-being check. neighbors told newscenter 5 they watched that police presence four hours, but couldn' t believe it when they found out why. two adults dead in an apparent murder suicide. property records list the owners as kevin and jenin o' connor.

the restaurant was open tonight, but the staff was visibly upset. a manager told newscenter 5 he was considered a member of their family. >> i worked thursday night with him. the same good old, cheerful goodbye. we are very devastated. we are still wondering -- we don' t have any answers yet. very difficult. reporter: i did speak with other neighbors off-camera who said they didn' t know the couple well, but they do know they had a close family and everyone here on forestry feels especially heartbroken for their children. we will bring you the latest as soon as it becomes available. live in waltham, julie mcdonald. heather: 8 -- reid: a dorchester man opens his door and comes face to face with a gunman. the suspect fired three shots before taking off just after noon today. the victim was hit in the stomach, arm and knee. the 30-year-old man was taken to boston medical center and is expected to survive.

reid: take a look at this video right now. a very close call at a gas station in australia. a car smashes into the convenience store just as a customer walks in. the woman disappears from sight and it does appear like she was hit but incredibly the car just missed her. the drama didn' t stop there. the collision triggered a gas leak. before they evacuated, two store clerks dragged the two people inside the car out to safety. heather: a family dog, recovering at home after an unprovoked attack. tonight the search continues for the two men responsible. the family' s own yard. our todd kazakiewich has the story from westminster. >> there she is. reporter: emotional reunion late sunday afternoon for the thibodeau family and their dog, abbie, who was savagely and severely beaten saturday morning

rutland. >> i think i was numb. i just can' t imagine that anybody would do anything to a dog, come into my yard and hurt her. reporter: the animal control officer says two men went into the thibodeau' s yard and attacked at the -- attacked abbie without provocation. another family member heard abbie barking, and chased the men away, but by that point, the injuries has already been inflicted. >> she sustained some head,. it made her have life-threatening injuries. she has some contusions to her mouth and face. she has bleeding inside her ears. reporter: abbie is now out of the hospital, but certainly not out of the woods. the veterinarian says abbie will need a lot of pain medication and special care including a soft diet in the weeks and months to come. >> we don' t want to do any kind

>> if they did this to my dog, whose dog is next? reporter: the description of the suspects is vague. they reportedly escaped in a black hatchback. todd kazakiewich, the view cvb newscenter 5. reid: we could know this week when aaron hernandez will face his next murder trial. a new date is expected to be set during a hearing on tuesday. the former patriots star is accused of gunning down two men outside a boston nightclub in 2012. jury selection was scheduled to start this month but the judge agreed to delay the trial because of an appeal over evidence. hernandez is already serving life in prison for the 2013 murder of odin lloyd. heather: widespread damage after deadly tornadoes touch down in florida. a couple inside what' s left of this mobile home did not make it out alive. a second tornado slammed into the heavily populated beach community of siesta key.

tonight, and many are snowbirds from the new england area forced to evacuate. condo managers scrambling to alert those who haven' t arrived yet. >> some people are here for 5, 6 weeks, and we have nowhere to put them. heather: the governor toured siesta key today. the community is hoping to secure some federal and state funds to help with rebuilding. reid: closer to home, we have our own precipitation. heather: beautiful to look at. i imagine mike wankum is going to the pretty slippery on the road. mike: i checked the roads. if they are treated, they are not doing too badly. this snow is the remnant of what was going on in florida. some of the snowfall totals are approaching three inches right now in isolated areas. you get one area that gets a pocket of heavy snow, and a few miles down the road, much less than that.

coming in. east bridgewater picking up 2.5 inches of snow. notice the general trend. it does not get far back to the west. it is this area i' m going to watch into parts of limit county. pushing that moisture right down through here. this is that area towards freetown. look at this band around marshfield. it just kind of is working this way. we are seeing more and more of that. out to the west, the bands are not nearly as impressive. north shore, this one is kind of moving in the last few moments. otherwise, you go a little ways in and you are talking a few flurries. that is the issue we are having tonight. tomorrow morning, this arctic front is the leading edge of some really cold air. it will give us one last burst of snow. the winds behind it are going to

though the snow will be over with. here' s the way it should. one low pressure system here and the big one offshore. we are just on the very fringes of it. we keep getting that little enhancement. once that front goes through, the cold they are comes roaring back in. you will see high temperatures s. i think 2-4, though out here, closer to three. i wouldn' t let' overnight tonight, not bad. once that front comes through, by noon. these are sustained winds, 18, 24 miles per hour. it will be cold. night. they stay strong all the way through tuesday. tuesday morning, wind chill

heather: i have to admit, i' m scratching my head over this. it took a comedy to knock "star wars: the force awakens" from the top of the movie box office. reid: not the movie i thought would have done it. "ride along 2" is the hot ticket right now. the comedy starring ice cube and kevin hart has pulled in more than $34 million so far this holiday weekend. "star wars" has added 25 million to it' s record-breaking earnings, but won' t extend it' s one-month run as the top draw. so, sometime in the future when someone asks, what was the movie that knocked "the force awakens" from the the top of the box office? the answer is "ride along 2." my guess would have been "the revenant" but that apparently was number two. heather: you know, this country needs to laugh. that' s what that tells me.
