relieved family. jack harper talked with his parents and he joins us now live. jack? reporter: those parents are telling us this young man is doing fine and doing well. right now he is taking a little time to decompress. >> we are over. >>ed he is out and that he is coming home soon. couldn't be happier. reporter: hours after a wake up call from her son, matthew. news he was free and on his way home from eye ran. >> it is the call we have been hoping to get and it was matt and he was in the company of a swiss diplomat and on the way to the airport to leave iran. we woke up real fast and we are happy to chat with him. reporter: the 30-year-old former bu student had spent years studying and teaching in the middle east. there was no explanation why he was held in iran for 40 days. >> matthew was there as a student.

we are live in concord, wcvb, newscenter 5. heather:senator ted cruz is in new hampshire. he held an event at a diner in cane and then moved to plymouth. this is part of the five-day, 17-city bus tour that will hit the counties in the granite state. ed: thisy are hoping to convince voters to vote for him. he specifically spoke of jeb bush saying he is bringing negativity and trying to trash his campaign. senator bernie sanders and martin o'malley and hillary clinton all marked martin luther king, junior day in carolina. the secretary was the only candidate to discuss at length the confederate flag that was removed from the capitol grounds last summer. she said south carolina had to choose between honoring dr. king's legacy or the confederacy and they made the right choice. senator sanders says dr. king must be remembered as a dynamic figure who fought for the poor. governor o'malley said dr. king would have been

as bates' buddies. ed: a camera was discovered in the bathroom of a truck stop. they said they put the camera in to fight hate crime and it was put in a common area to avoid invasion of privacy. no word how many people were caught on camera which could be seen affixed to the ceiling. four individuals have filed complaints through their attorneys. the investigation is on going and the camera itself has since been taken down. heather:tomorrow we could learn when aaron hernandez could face his next murder trial. a new date is said to be set for the 2012 homicide outside a boston nightclub. he is serving life for the 2013 murder of odin lloyd. ed: i'm sure you noticed, but gas prices are going down and they are still doing that. heather:it is stunning how much they dropped in the last week. plus -- >> when things like this happen it is important to give it out to the public.

and we have wind to boot. you in boston the temperatures are 23. but we have a steady wind of 20 miles per hour. that doesn't factor in the gusts. in the teens and the low 20s around the region because of these gusts we have a windchill in the single digits from boston to worcester and obviously won't be long before worcester's windchill is below zero. the winds will be somewhat tomorrow. affect. it is stronger than it is now. 46 in providence. 46 in blue hill. and these were the snowfall amounts. notice along the south shore, almost 6 inches and parts of the north shore had over five inches of snow. otherwise it was a two to four-inch snowfall in eastern mass. now it is all about the winds and the cold. the next 24 hours will be the coldest in this spell, but the rest of the week will be below average.

to a 9 in worcester and a 15 in boston. that's with a steady wind of 20 miles per hour. windchills will be at or below zero and the high temperature might not even get to 20 in the higher elevations of worcester county and the low to mid20s in boston with the powerful winds. there is a significant potential and it coincide with the weekend. saturday, saturday night, early sunday seems to be the time frame we have to watch. there will be a strong ocean storm to the south. we are likely to be impacted to some extent with the snow and wind. how close will the storm come? if it stays fairly farther south it would be more of a fringing situation. but if it kind of goes through the sweet spot which is where it becomes close enough to give it a bigger hit, then we would be talking about significant amounts of snow and wind and the tides are as straw -- astronomically high. once it gets into this position the question is is it
