emily: good morning, it's wednesday, january 20, i'm emily riemer. randy: i'm randy price. a deadly attack in pakistan. the information we're learning in the overnight hours at the assault at a university. emily: a fire in scituate. an investigation into what started the flames. sarah: not a politician. can i get a hallelujah? randy: new endorsement for donald trump. what it means for the republican frontrunner. oil we'll get to the stories but first check in with cindy. it's windy but didn't feel bitterly cold.

with the skies clear and still wind out of there at north-northwest at 16 and instead of gusting 40 miles per hour we're gusting over 20 and getting the higher gusts in worcester and nantucket. a wind-chill factor to deal with. it feels like below zero in worcester and the wind chill in boston is 30 degrees. teens to 20 degrees for temperatures. there will be a good amount of sunshine and it's up after 7:00 a.m. and we climb up into the 20's here. mid to late mork and we'll be close to 30 degrees as we get into the afternoon. but those wind chills hover in the single digits this morning for covering into the teens as we get to this afternoon. not quite as harsh as yesterday. high pressure giving us the sunshine and this disturbance brings in a period of clouds but it's the energy on the west weekend storm. this looks like it's going to come in here saturday afternoon into sunday morning. looks like the heaviest snow may stay to our south but we'll be talking how far north it

wind along the coastline coming up in a bit. emily? emily: thank you. breaking overnight a deadly attack in pakistan. gunmen stormed the reegon overnight killing 21 people and injuring several more. that attack triggered a gun battle with police and army troops. no group claimed responsibility at this point for that attack. right now a deadly fire is under investigation on the south shore. randy: the flames breaking out at edith holmes drive in scituate late last night. the question is how it started and the eye opener's kelley tuthill is on the scene with what we know at this hour. kelley: well, we're here live in scituate and the crews are still on scene at the fire. it broke out last night around 8:00 at 12 edith holmes drive. there were heavy flames and smoke and at one point the roof collapsed. firefighters entered the home and pulled a man out. they took him to the hospital

surrounding towns including norwell came in to fight the fire and at hour we can only tell you the cause is under investigation. live in scituate, kelley tuthill, wcvb news center 5. emily: other stories we're following, police are searching for two men in raymond, new hampshire happening on chester road last night. police say the men attacked a home opener and restrained the victim with duct tape and stole valuables and a car. the homeowner was not seriously hurt. randy: the search for 12 missing marines including one from hingham has been suspended off the coast of hawaii. there's been no signs of survivors since helicopters crashed last thursday. christopher orlando, a 2010 hingham graduate was a flight crew chief aboard one of those choppers. emily: right now police are searching for a man who shot two people at a busy t station and this morning both victims

along the blue line. the violence came out of no why. it started between two men on the train. a 29-year-old man was shot during an argument about 2:30 yesterday afternoon. riders tell us they heard the shot as they left the train and when another shot was fired, a 43-year-old man struck on the platform. most passengers took cover but some say it appeared the suspect was looking for someone else. >> people were moving away from the doors. the first instinct was kind of to recoil. a third character appeared and he wasn't afraid of anything. emily: service was suspended for about two hours yesterday. police are combing through surveillance footage to identify that suspect. sarah: are you ready to stump for trump? i'm here to support the next president of the united states, donald trump. randy: commitment 2016. sarah palin backing donald

the tea party favorite and former vice-presidential candidates will be joining trump on the campaign trail today in iowa. and erika tarantal joins us for what it means for the republican frontrunner. erika: good morning, randy. the endorsement could mean a big boost for supporters for trump and comes as polls get tighter for the frontrunner in the battleground state. palin announced her support on immigration and his call for a temporary ban on muslims coming into the u.s. she believes trusm is only facing opposition because of his outsider status. sarah: our g.o.p. machine establishment, they who would assemble the political landscape, they're attacking their own frontrunner. emily: trump says he's honored to have palin's support as he heads into a critical time to lead off the iowa caucus which is less than two weeks away. emily? emily: thank you, erika.

reports emails on her server were more sensitive than top secret. the report for the attorney general for the intelligence community say some emails dealt with the nation's most secret programs. clinton says the messages were handled properly and were not classified at the time they were sent or received. former president bill clinton will campaign today on behalf of his wife. he'll hold an event in concord this morning. and republican jeb bush, marco rubio, ted cruz, john kasich and chris christie all have events around the granite state. randy: local police and investigators are trying to figure out who sent bomb threats to schools across the state and more than a dozen communities were targeted, boston, plymouth, newton among them. thousands of students sent home as a precaution. arlington's police chief said a caller stated a bomb would blow up at the high school and any survivors would be shot. the police ordered an evacuation.

develop into a big storm off the east coast this weekend. for us the timing of when that gets here would be saturday afternoon into sunday morning. so the timing has changed a little bit. it's a little deeper into the weekend. the track remains critical to how much we're going to get out of this storm and how far north it comes but regardless of that there will be some impact with snow, certainly some wind and impacts along the coast as well. but i think the heaviest shows may target areas to our south, places like d.c., philly, baltimore, stretching down towards virginia as well. new york may get into this, too. really the mid atlantic states likely will get the worst of what this storm has to offer. southern new england will ride the edge of this storm and looks like southern new england, yes. northern new england likely missing out on the bulk of the storm. but if you have travel plans this weekend up and down interstate 95, you'll be impacted it appears by this storm system. we have the winds out there this morning gusting 20, over 30 miles per hour still.

in worcester and otherwise single digits above zero like 12 is what it feels like in marsh field so bundle up. we are inching up towards 30 this afternoon. the high was 25 yesterday in boston. unlike yesterday when we had a fair amount of clouds, i think we'll see a lot of sunshine. notice the temperatures by noon time in the upper 20's and right around 30 degrees this afternoon, seeking closer to the freezing mark in the cape and 20 at worcester hills with miles per hour throughout the day so somewhat of a wind chill to deal with. the skies are mainly clear and high pressure dominating our pressure today and forcing the next disturbance to our south. we'll watch it ride to our south overnight with some increased clouds so the temperatures won't be as cold. teens to around 20 degrees when you wake up tomorrow as well. notice how the period of cloud move through overnight and we'll keep any snow shower activity to our south. and tomorrow is looking like a fine day.

thursday, friday and of course into the weekend, this energy dives out and notice by tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m., starting to pick up gulf of mexico moisture and by friday morning, here it is here sitting down over the deep south. there will likely be icing throughout the carolinas, some big thunderstorms across florida on the northwestern side of this and where we'll find the heavy shows. look where me are by the wee hours and to the south around d.c. stretching back towards cincinnati and might get snow around this in the atlanta area. from this point on, the question is how far north does it come before it heads on out to sea? and our computer models are showing still some signs of disagreeing a bit. this is the american model, the gfs and shows the greatest snows from philadelphia to roanoke and the european model bulls eyeing this area and it's farther south but either way we'll be on the northern edge of this and looks like the heaviest know will stay to our south.

it will be dependent on the coastline as we have the strong easterly wind coming on saturday. at the time we have a full moon so astronomically tides will run higher than average and coastal flooding is a concern especially saturday evening, high tide to sunday morning. the storm will exit sunday morning and start to warm thing up over 40 this weekend. emily: boston mare marty walsh issuing a challenge after protests at his state of the city address. >> save our city! fund our schools! emily: some parents are upset with a $50 million budget gap and tax breaks going to general electric for moving to boston. the mayor says he increased school funding by $90 million since taking office and also says every large district in the state is feeling the pinch and called on state lawmakers to change that. >> let's work with the state

randy: we're following breaking news overnight in pakistan. emily: at least 21 people dead and several injured after gunmen stormed a university. the table now taking responsibility for this attack. this a happened in the northwest region of the country. the assault causing a massive response from police and army troops who did kill some of the attackers. randy: a fire is under investigation on the south shore of scituate and started last night and this home on edith holmes drive. they pulled a man from the home who later was pronounced dead at the hospital. emily: a guilty verdict on a horrific crash.
