they want murder charges dropped against erika murray after skeletal remains of three babies were found inside the filthy home where murray lived with her other children and her boyfriend. murray' s lawyer will also try to suppress evidence. emily: right now an investigation is underway after narcan is used to save a and that' s not the only alarming the eyeopener' s frank holland is in worcester this morning with what we know right now. frank tackle -- frank? frank: this morning we know that toddler is expected to survive. police are now looking for anything that could have contributed to the child' s apparent overdose. it happened last week in an apartment here on wellington street. the telegram reports that is the same apartment where 2-year-old gigi brown died. no charges were ever filed in that case and investigators have not said how the little girl died. the apartment where both incidents happened is leased by gigi brown' s grandmother. as we' ve reported city inspectors had expressed

concerns about conditions in the apartment. the child in this most recent case is recovering and is now in dcf custody. investigators say narcan is used in opioid overdoses but in this , case inspectors say a heart medication may have been involved. we' ll bring you more as we get it. frank holland, newscenter 5. randy: the opioid crisis in massachusetts is expected to be one of the issues governor baker talks about in his first state of the commonwealth address tonight. we have some numbers now epidemic. 57% of those who died of overdoses last year were 25 to 44 years old. 83% were white or non-hispanic. most of them, three quarters, were men. it' s the first time we' ve seen a real demographic breakdown of s state of the commonwealth tonight right here on channel 5 or streaming live on our wcvb

there' s going to be a lot of wind. take a look. the d.c. area is under that blizzard watch. this is until sunday morning at 6:00 a.m. also blizzard watch out for long island. you get the idea. from the mid-atlantic up toward new york city, those strong winds, heavy snow will have a big impact. we are not involved in any of these winter storm watches at this point. the heaviest snows are going to target areas south of new york city. there will be a bull' s-eye of one to two feet, possibly even more. southern new england is going to remain on the edge of this. we' re still continuing to track. if you are traveling south along 95, you need to know about this storm. for us, it is going to move in saturday afternoon.

i am a lesser, that is it -- i am olessa, that is a look at your traffic. emily: trapped inside a smoking car. a woman rescued by a member of the patriots. this morning we' re hearing from a driver who is pretty lucky thanks to a play off the field , by linebacker darius fleming. he was on route 1 in foxborough last week when he saw a three-car crash. a 25-year-old driver was trapped in her car. fleming didn' t hesitate. i was like i got to get her out of here some way. she was trying to kick the window. there was so much damage so i started kicking the window. it broke and i pulled her out. >> the entire front of the car was smashed. it was smoking a little bit. obviously, everything died inside of it, so i could not come out.

emily: kicking in the window got him 22 stitches but he suited up for the playoff win just two days later. randy: we' re learning about a new problem with the patriots' footballs. nothing to do with inflation or deflation. the nfl' s game crew forgot them at a hotel. the kicking balls and air gauges were left at logan airport hotel saturday. a hotel employee and a state police detective drove the equipment to foxboro an hour before kickoff. the league which is very concerned about the integrity of the footballs following deflategate says there were no issues with the balls used. let' s hope they make the trip to denver. we' ll be there to cover the patriots playoff game against the broncos. mike lynch and bob halloran will have live reports beginning saturday night. emily: a check of your economy this morning. asian stocks mostly in the red after surrendering early gains today. that' s following big swings on wall street yesterday. the dow plummeted 249 points to

close at 15,766. right now the dow futures are down. major airlines are preparing for that massive snowstorm that' s headed for the northeast and mid-atlantic. american, southwest and delta are among the top airlines to passengers flying this weekend. american includes customers flying today. the airlines will decide later today if flights will be canceled. randy: a pay boost for walmart employees. the retail giant says more than 1 million of its u.s. employees will receive a raise next month. anybody who started before january of this year will be paid $10 an hour. critics say the raise is just a publicity stunt. unions and workers are lobbying for $15 an hour. emily: your trending stories this morning. the buffalo bills make nfl history. the team has hired the league' s first ever full-time female coach. kathryn smith will serve as a special teams quality control coach. she' s been an nfl employee since 2003 and worked as an administrative assistant to bills head coach rex ryan last

season. last year jen welter became the first woman to hold an nfl coaching position but it was not full-time. randy: amazon is offering refunds for hoverboards. that' s as concerns grow over the safety of the products which have been deemed a fire hazard. the consumer product safety commission is investigating more than three dozen cases where hoverboards burst into flames or started smoking. despite the refund amazon is still selling the hoverboards on its site. emily: scientists say they now have solid evidence that a ninth planet does exist in our solar system. planet x is believed to be as big as neptune and far enough away to take 10,000 to 20,000 the planet hasn' t actually been seen yet. two scientists say they' ve used computer modeling and mathematics to determine that it is there. they expect a telescope sighting within five years. there you go.

grandmother. randy: a gloucester man featured on the reality tv show wicked tuna has pleaded guilty to fraud charges. paul hebert admitted in federal court yesterday that he received government disability benefits while he was fishing on the show. he' ll have to pay more than $53,000 in restitution. hebert will be sentenced in may. emily: senate democrats have blocked a house-bill that would have banned syrian and iraqi refugees from coming into the u.s. that' s after republicans refused any democratic amendments to the bill. the house legislation would require new fbi background checks and individual sign-offs from high-ranking federal officials before the admittance of any refugee from syria or iraq. randy: icy conditions cripple traffic in washington, d.c., stalling the president' s motorcade. you can see the line of vehicles slipping along the street. at several points it even hit curbs. a 25-minute trip from joint base andrews to the white house turned into an hour.

emily: snowboarders in california trigger an avalanche. christian michael mares says he' s lucky he wasn' t buried under ice and snow. he could be prosecuted for triggering the slide after the ski resort says he and his friends entered a closed area. the snowboarders say they did not know it was closed. randy: this is quite the creative approach to dealing with lots of snow. an artist in wisconsin is well-known for his impressive winter sculptures. this year of course yoda it had to be. he' s not alone seems lots of people in that community like to sculpt their snow. looks like quite artful. emily: good work there. cindy: they were out in the yard yesterday trying to mold it. it is hard to do anything. are we going to get any more? that is the question. look at the map. you can see there is a. in right here.

be diving down into the gulf of mexico and picking up moisture. you can see by tomorrow morning, there will be severe weather out ahead of this. cold air coming up from the carolinas. that is when the snow gets involved. it is going to be quite heavy down in this area. this is the latest run of the european model. notice the bull' s-eye continues to be down through the mid-atlantic states. the american model trending in the same direction it notice there is some snow sneaking up into new england as well here it we are going to be riding -- as well. where can be riding into this. philadelphia as well. if you are traveling to new york city, you' re likely not to see as much snow. for us, this snow is going to be working north slowly during the day on saturday.
