snow and ice. the system is expected to bring up to two feet of snow to the mid-atlantic. it' s still days away so timeline and the track could still shift. moment by moment. it looks like for now we are dodging the worst of it. cindy: it appears that way. you can see the green from washington, d.c. up to new york city, that is a blizzard warning . the bulk of this is to our south mark. this is an update of one of our computer models, and you can see on saturday morning were that states. saturday night into sunday morning, the northern adage of the moisture shield never gets into new england, so this is a big shift in one of our models. another model that came in this

similar, but bringing the northern edge to the pike. our in-house model is bringing the northern edge of the snow all the way up to the new vermont. you can see clearly there is a big question mark as to how far north that storm will come , and will get. we do know the most targeted areas will continue to be down through the mid-atlantic states. dc-10 baltimore looking at 18 to 24 inches of snow. here locally, it looks like our chance of seeing more than three inches will be south of the pike , but if that southerly track holds we could shift all of these numbers much further to the south. we will have more on the timeline for you coming up in just a bit. emily: a state of emergency already issued for some states including virginia hit by ice , overnight. we' ll take a look at the preparations underway in the

what could be an historic storm. a reminder, you can get the latest storm team 5 forecasts, live radar and real-time closings and delays with our wcvb mobile app. you can download that for free in your app store. erika: right now, an investigation is underway in worcester after the life-saving drug narcan is used on a one-year-old child. newscenter 5' s frank holland is live with new details, frank? frank: we now know that 14 month old was close to having a heart attack before ems arrived and gave him narcan. that information coming from the search warrant from this apartment on wellington street in worcester. police returning to the scene a day after the boy' s medical emergency. they are trying to figure out if there' s any connection to the death of a toddler last year in the same apartment. the cause of her death are still unknown, and no charges have

the one-year-old boy was lethargic on january 12, and put back to sleep and given a bath and appeared fine. later he appeared north arctic again -- lethargic again, and 911 was called. he had dilated pupils, respiratory problems, and was on the verge of going into cardiac arrest. investigators do not believe -- narcan is generally given to people for opioid overdoses but in this case, investigators believe a heart medication may have been involved. that little boy is in the custody of dcf. life and worcester, frank holland, wcvb. emily: classes cancelled at two schools in milford today following bomb threats. the threats came in around 5:30 this morning, prompting officials to close milford high school and shining star early childhood center. all other schools are open. this is the fourth day this week

threats, including 15 schools on tuesday alone. right now, this man is under arrest accused in a fatal crash , on route nine in framingham. police say last night, jason theriault was drunk when he struck and killed patrick stratton as stratton tried to cross the road. theriault is charged with motor vehicle homicide and a second offense for operating under the influence. erika: new this noon, a suspect is due in court after an attack in milton. it happened around 10:00 last night outside the dunkin donuts in east milton square. police found the victim badly hurt after some kind of assault. he was taken to the hospital. the suspect was found a short time later. also new, a fourth arrest in connection to a new bedford homicide. overnight, police arrested 22-year-old aaron bookman, charged him with obstruction of justice linked to the shooting death of aaron grant on new year' s eve. three others have already been arrested on the same charges. police still consider this a very active investigation. emily: the woman charged in connection with a house of horrors in blackstone wants

erika murray and her attorneys in court today trying to get murder charges against her dropped. the request comes after skeletal remains of three babies were found inside the filthy home where murray lived with her other children and her boyfriend. murray' s lawyers will also try to suppress evidence. two people charged with helping sell guns stolen from a worcester army reserve center plead not guilty. tyrone jones and ashley bigsbee were both in court yesterday. the telegram says jones is being held. bigsbee remains free on $10,000 bail. prosecutors say the pair helped sell some of the six assault rifles and 10 handguns allegedly taken from the center by james walker morales in november. morales is due in court tomorrow. erika: the road to the super bowl just moments ago, ron kind kautsky talked about new

>> there, either way is no difference in the cognitive distraction of a phone call. erika: there' s no sign of a total ban yet, but road safety experts believe this is a step in the right direction. emily: it' s a tough thing to do these days. but students in billerica are giving up their cell phones for a month. it' s the second year in a row they' ve done it. newscenter 5' s todd kazakiewich tells us it' s all for a good cause. todd: it' s an unusual sight, dozens of teenagers willingly surrendering their phones. today, billerica memorial high school kicked off the third annual "billerica cells out" campaign, a 21 day phone " fast" that supports cancer research and cancer patients. >> 13 when i was clear and 11 when i was diagnosed. todd: freshman ian cadden was the first recipient of the donations when the effort began two years ago. he' s now cancer free, and giving up his phone to help others. >> i' m not really on my phone, a lot. i' m outside, shooting pucks outside all the time, so it feels kind of good to give up my phone.

washington dc getting a small taste of winter forced to spend hours in icy gridlock overnight, ahead of the monster storm expected to strike this weekend. lana zak reports, at least one state has issued a state of emergency and airlines are already altering flights to and from the mid-atlantic. lana: d.c. is preparing for an epic brothers learned with a trial run -- blizzard with a trial run. >> i am also declaring a snow emergency. lana: the mayor promising to be better prepared after less than two inches of snow fell wednesday, leading to this. >> it took me an hour to get four miles so we decided to walk , and it is icy on the roads. lana: even air force one was caught in the icy conditions. well residents prepared for the impending storm, many on social media were frustrated. this person taking aim at the

it is all through the mid-atlantic states, and they just updated the blizzard watch and the d.c. area to a blizzard warning. it has been 90 years since they have had 20 inches or more. let' s focus on where that storm is right now. a lot of severe weather breaking out as the moisture works in from the gulf of mexico, but from here, it will take a while for the storm to move in our direction. it will creep in very slowly on saturday evening. it will move out on sunday morning, and be gone by midday. we will be dealing with some snow, the question mark is how much. first things first, we have some nice weather out there today, this guys are mainly clear. 30 degrees in boston and the wind is sustained out of the northeast at around 20, gusting to 30.

mostly in the teens, and that will continue through the afternoon. we are close to freezing in the cape. high pressure will dominate today and tomorrow. tomorrow is pretty similar to today, we will just be dealing with stronger wind today. it will be quite cold when you awake tomorrow morning. let' s focus on the storm. notice how it is picking up the gulf of mexico moisture, and will work in eastward. i sang down -- icing through raleigh and the carolinas, and it is this area that is producing snow. by saturday morning, there is a large consensus that this is about where the storm will be, coming off the carolina coastline, strengthening with strong winds,

there are many questions as to how far north this storm will have -- will head before it goes out to see. this model is pushing the snow all the way up to the new hampshire border. with the low in this vicinity, we will also have easterly wind coming up along our coastline, so the impact with snow will be greatest for that mid-atlantic states. a foot and a half to two feet of snow. if you are traveling south this weekend, that storm will be out there and will cause major problems up and down the eastern seaboard. we have a full moon coming up on saturday, so the high tide at 11:00 saturday night and sunday morning could cause some minor beach flooding and erosion. i think sunday it will be most problematic with the 40 to 50

as of the snow coming in on saturday, it is way down to the south. it will be about 7:00 in the evening, if it comes in our direction, to move up the south coast, and reach the pike but that might be as far as it gets before it starts to head out to sea on sunday morning. some mixing on the cape and islands will hold the totals down, but the best chance of seeing more than three inches of snow is south of boston. the amounts will taper off pretty quickly, abruptly, sharply to the north. if the storm tracks further south, we can drop all of these numbers down. this may change by this evening. harvey will have the very latest for you coming up starting at 4:30. once we get by this storm on sunday, the temperature start to come up. we moderate back to around 40
