after passing the plow truck he points the gun out of his window and fired. he was charged after carrying a firearm and police say he was not drunk. he is licensed to carry the happened gun he had in the middle console of his jeep. he must surrender pending the outcome. >> breaking right now, an explosion has hurt several people and it happened at the ra treatment center. john atwater is live at the scene. reporter: ed, five workers went to the hospital and they had serious eye irritation. firefighters are still on the scene and they have been here for hours now. those workers doing maintenance and this was a really tricky operation. it happened seven to eight stories and black smoke was pouring from the building after something exploded after 1:00 this afternoon. those workers were able to

crunch time. new hampshire has now designated two judges to hear the voter and ballot challenges. this is the first time they will vote with the voter id law in check. they will have to fill out an affidavit if they don't have taken. this is one week before the iowa caucuses. people are getting a lot of attention. ted cruz is campaigning there today. he has been gaining on trump in the polls recently and is hoping for a win. also in iowa today, the two democratic front runners, hillary clinton and bernie sanders. they both made campaign appearances. their super bowl dreams are crushed in and by denver. today the patriots cleared out their lockers and headed into the off season. bill -- bill belichick not making any excuses, but saying

week so they stay out of the way of snow removal crews. he is also asking for patience. >> this is not your average storm. .2 inches more would have been the greatest snowfall in the history of new york city in the last century and a half. we have to get that through everyone's head. >> a school bus as you can see stuck. it couldn't turn right as it tried to turn right because the snow banks were too tall. ed: long lines at the ticket counters as they try to play catch up. 13,000 flights were canceled and it is still slow going today as the airlines get back on track. clean up on the runways as some of the busiest airports in the country are on the east coast. and sledding is serious business of the day at our nation's capitol. federal government offices and schools all closed in washington, d.c. and providing the opportunity to hit the slopes.

crawled through plumbing tunnels right to the roof and then repelled four to five stories using sheets. it was not noticed for a full 16 hours and the jail is a couple hours north of the mexican border. >> it spans southern california and again we are talking about three inmates we are in search of. there are friends and family members that span southern california that are continuing to follow that information. >> one of the escapees is awaiting trial for murder. a -- ed: a former wisconsin police officer admitted to killing a woman and stuffing her body into a suitcase. he was set to go on trial today for the murder of the 19-year-old. her body was found in a suitcase along a wisconsin highway. today he changed his mind and admitted to the crime. the former officer is also accused of killing another woman and stuffing her body into a suit kiss as well. suitcase as well.

hospitalized after turbulence on a flight. the flight was diverted to new finland. three flight attendants and four passengers were taken to the hospital and four ambulances met the american airlines jet on the tarmac overnight. singer don mcclain and his wife agreed to a protection order after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge. he filed for the order after the arrest on january 18th. but the couple says they have moving -- they have moved forward and the case is now a private matter. a bottled water company owned in part by mark wahlberg is donating water to flint, michigan. they are sending one million bottles to people living in the city and more donations will be made until the water crisis there is fixed. high levels of lead have been detected in the water since the city switched from the detroit system to the flint river system to save money. ed: the u.s. supreme court said people serving life terms for murders they committed as teenagers must have a chance

the new six to three ruling struck down automatic life terms with no chance of parole for teens. this case centered around a man convicted of killing a sheriff deputy as a 17-year-old in louisiana back in 1963. and the high court is not taking up a controversial abortion law. the law from north dakota would ban most abortions after six weeks when a fetal heartbeat can be detected. they rejected the law in july and that decision will now stand. ed: u.n peace talks in syria have been pushed back to friday. the talks. the syrian government and and the opposition groups will not talk directly, but they will be working between them. it is a cease-fire agreement and stoping isis. the secretary of state john kerry on a trip to cambodia and they are meeting ahead of a big international meeting happening in california. secretary kerry is dealing with several southeast asian

like. this is what the snow looks like from space. obviously this is a dc area and the whole thing is covered in snow. noaa put out this picture. harvey leonard is working in the weather center and putting things out. this is not the storm this week end. harvey: they were creamed to the south. when you look at the peak dips you can see up toward new york city and much more modest. we should certainly let everyone know down on cape cod that's an eventful storm and it was. here we are on the edge. let's check it out and show you on a day where it is a nice temperature jump. since there is a snow covering with clear skies and dry air

15. look at the nice run up to 40 in millis and 37 in cane. i don't see a bitter cold settling in meaning over the neck seven or 10 days. -- the next seven or 10 days. it will be chilly, but not as cold as last week. here you go. you saw it on the snow depth chart and here are the number. boston is just over 10 inches of snow. baltimore is tripling us. same thing in washington. new york city is almost tripling us as well. even roanoke, virginia has more snow than we do. all of that because they were all in the heart of that big powerful storm and we were on the edge. pretty sky conditions now as we are just about at sunset. check that out. isn't that nice that city cam is capturing that. we have some of the high clouds and it is 33 in boston. the winds are light

the 30s we see are pretty easy to take. in the city of boston our temperatures will slowly coast down alt tonight. then as the wind turns around to the southwest it may actually start to inch up or just stabilize somewhere close to 30 or 32. while the clouds are still thin though, it will allow the temperatures in the suburbs to drop off closer to 20 degrees. now tomorrow is going to be a milder day. we will have some cloud around in many areas to start the day. some bright spots at times. but even though we have a lot of clouds it will be mild and maybe a spot shower. a front comes through during tomorrow night and early on wednesday. maybe has a few showers especially as it settles down with some partial clearing to come in on wednesday and a breezy day and a cooler day. thursday looks okay. thursday night and early friday even though we are only seeing a little precipitation way off the coast we have to watch. we may have a storm that could have some impact on us thursday night and friday morning. that's only a possibility. 2 could be farther out at sea.

breezy day, mild day and maybe just a spritz. we get to thursday and we have to keep our eye on the following. we have a cold front that is coming through. as we get to the thursday night night/early time period that's the opportunity to get a coastal storm if it comes close enough. we will get rain or wet snow. we'll see how it goes. it is me time. either way it looks like we will be cleared up for the upcoming weekend at least and not terribly cold. we will have brief episodes of near normal temperatures and other times it will be above temperature. that seems to be the temperature pattern will beset lig in. will be settling in. ed: a lawsuit filed by a group of smokers in massachusetts against philip morris is going to trial.

it was accused 10 years ago that cigarettes could be used with fewer carcinogen. the class action lawsuit is not seeking money, but wants philip morris to pay for 3d chest scans that can detect early stage loping cancer. ed exped now more on a virus carried by mosquitoes that can cause birth detects. they expect the virus to spread through south central and north america. the only countries not expected to be affected are canada and chile who does not carry that species of mosquito. ed: and the world's best known graffiti artist with a new message for the government. before we go to break, let's check the numbers on wall
