the bulk over southern rhode island. a couple of showers here in cape cod. temperatures in the 40's from the north shore down to the cape. we are looking at 30's in worcester county. a frontal boundary crossing the area now. as it continues to press southward we are going to see the showers hang around until about 8:00 this morning. on the cape and the islands and at lunchtime showers are gone, clouds breaking. clouds this morning giving way to sunshine. temperatures dip down a little bit. just after sunrise and will climb back into the low 40's this afternoon. above average temperatures again today. we'll talk about how long the lasts in a few minutes. first i want to get you out to the roads. kenn is in for olessa this morning. kevin: still a little bit of

stop at 2:00 a.m. when police stopped him they were trying to get him out of the vehicle. he would vehicle and nor wood police say fled and the door of the vehicle hit one of the norwood the scene. we are the scene. we are told he is ok. it ended up being a high-speed chase. state police used stop sticks to commurning the tires of the suspect's vehicle and then he ended up crashing back here in norwood into the pole. right now we're that the suspect and the passenger in that vehicle are at the hospital and will eventually be facing charges. the norwood police officer who was hit by a door during this

he is at the hospital now with minor injuries. that is the latest from norwood. randy: also breaking, one person is in the hospital after a chase leads to a crash in mansfield. the sun chronicle reports an s.u.v. was going about 100 miles an hour when it crashed into a bridge on route 106. it happened just after 1:00 a.m, we're told the driver was airlifted to the hospital. it's not clear how the chase started or why. erika: breaking news in seattle, two people are dead, three others hurt after a shooting at a homeless encampment in seattle. police say a man and a woman have died, after the group was targeted. nobody has been arrested, but police say they have persons of interest. randy: a deadly end to that tense standoff in oregon. one protester was killed yesterday as police arrested the group, occupying a federal wildlife refuge. the f.b.i. said that the protester killed was involved

stop. the group had been protesting for three weeks making various claims over the federal land. erika: right now police are investigating a gruesome discovery turning a neighborhood into a crime scene. two people are dead leaving a lot of questions this morning. the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is in peabody with what we know at this hour. antoinette: right now we know that police are investigating this as a murder-suicide and we know it was a grisly scene. a man and a woman found with knife wounds on the front steps of this peabody home. police say the woman knew the man though their exact relationship is still unclear this morning. they say for some reason he came to her home, attacked her, then killed himself. a family member a chilling long-distance witness to the start of the crime. >> i was on the phone with a relative in brazil. that relative heard a commotion

went dead. reporter: police spent hours combing winter street looking for clues. they towed the man's car as they continue to search for a motive in this case. they're also still trying to determine the relationship between the 51-year-old victim who lived in this house and the man accused of killing her. and then killing himself. we will keep you posted on the investigation. erika: thank you. commitment 2016 now front-runner donald trump says he will not attend tomorrow's . debate on fox news. trump has been feuding with fox news anchor megyn kelly since the first debate last summer. kelly will be one of the moderators tomorrow. democrat bernie sanders will hold a meeting with the president today. the private meeting at the white house is expected to be informal. it comes as both sanders and

voters in iowa. >> if you go to the caucus on monday night and stand up for me there, i will work my heart out for you. >> when our people vote, we win and we win big. erika: polls show a tightening race between clinton and sanders, less than a week from the iowa caucuses. sanders is also turning attention to massachusetts today. he will open his third bay state office in springfield. randy: newscenter5's phil lipof is following the race closely. he'll be in iowa, reporting live for the lead-up to the caucuses. his reports start tomorrow at newscenter 5 at 4:30 p.m. erika: a new budget plan, expected to be unveiled today. randy: the major deficit the governor will have to address. plus this. >> anxiety issues. o.c.d. issues. insomnia. erika: struggling with depression. and she's not alone.

>> we're here for his family. we're here for him. we're here for the honor he brought the nation. randy: a somber salute to a makes a heart-breaking trip home without him. christopher orlando was one of 12 marines killed when two military helicopters collided off of hawaii. erika: their bodies have not been found. but orlando's community wanted to make sure his family knows they are not alone. they stood three deep lining main street with american flags last night, for a hero's salute. >> he'll always be part of the sea. he will always be part of sky. when we look to the sea or the sky, we will remember him too.

randy: here we go. it is amazing. i'm looking at the thermometer. 42 degrees. cindy: it feels good. 4:45 in the morning in january. didn't i tell you we were going to get an indian summer? take a look. while you have been sleeping, the temperatures have barely changed at all. we have been holding in the low to mid 40's. there is our average high of 36. of course yesterday we were so warm, got all the way up to 51 in boston. the first time we have been above the average in more than a week. we had a stretch of cold weather there for a while last week, but overall the month of january is running a couple of degrees above the average.

we're still in the low 40's today, tomorrow and this weekend, in the 30's. above average temperatures, yes. there is some cold out there but it is locked up in canada now and there are no signs in the next five to 10 days that it is going to be moving in. a mild pattern overall. we're starting out this morning with 30's and 40's. notice the coldest spots in worcester county. everybody is above the freezing mark. boston we're 43. i think we'll see the temperatures dip down a little bit around sunrise and come back into the 40's. temperatures don't change a lot today. the cape is in the lower 40's now. the threat for showers here and then the clouds break for sunshine for you. it is a changeable day in terms of the cloud cover.

the risk for showers with us until the frontal boundary shifts offshore. until 8:00 this morning, on the cape, you have a risk of a shower or two and then by lunchtime clouds beginning to dissipate and brightening skies here as we head into the afternoon. the temperatures not all that different from where they are now. a wersly wind 10-15 miles per hour. turns into a nice day overall . tonight we'll drop down below freezing. teens and 20's for overnight lows with mainly clear skies. all of that melting that happens today is going to refreeze tonight. keep that in mind first thing out the door tomorrow. we're watching a disturbance to our north and west and a storm offshore. it looks like both of these features are going to stay separate. for us that means no big storms the next several days. we're going to see the temperatures in the lower 40's tomorrow.

one in eight women will suffer depression during pregnancy or postpartum. new moms are urged to get additional attention. >> it has impacts on babies while they are still in utero. randy: president obama is calling for more research to prevent and treat the zika virus. a person in virginia has been diagnosed with the disease, after traveling to a country where there's been an outbreak. the zika virus is suspected of causing babies to develop small heads. pregnant women are advised not to travel countries in south america and the caribbean where zika has been detected. american and united airlines are now offering waivers for customers, traveling to those areas. erika: your economy now. governor charlie baker is set

today. he'll announce specifics on the $40 billion spending plan for the fiscal year, which starts in july. right now, the state is looking at a $635 million gap for the fiscal year. that's likely to mean cuts for state agencies across the board. toyota motors maintains its status as the world's top-selling automaker. the company says it sold more than 10 million vehicles in 2015. toyota, which has been number one for 4 years in a row, expects similar sales this year. detroit-based general motors than seven decades, before it was surpassed by toyota in 2008. randy: u.s. stocks jumped yesterday as the price of oil rose 4%. the dow added 282 points closing at 16,167. right now dow stock futures are lower.

now. a big boost for weight watchers stock after one tweet from oprah. oprah tweeted about losing 26 pounds with weight watchers, of which she is now a member of the board. shares immediately soared more than 20% following her post. that means the company's market value, which has been volatile, rose about $150 million. randy: a police officer is recovering after being run over by a tractor-trailer. the truck comes barreling at the officer, catching him under its wheels. captain brad moore was directing traffic when the 18-wheeler was struck from behind. he managed to escape without serious injury by rolling. moore says he's just looking forward to getting back to work. erika: police in new york make a special delivery. they stopped traffic to help a mother give birth. and it was a success. you can see one officer carrying the newborn to the ambulance they later tweeted a picture of little nicola wong.

the driver wouldn't get out. he eventually crashed into a pole. the officer suffered minor injuries. also breaking, a chase leads to a car crash in mansfield. the sun chronicle reports an suv was going about 100 miles an hour when it crashed into a bridge on route 106 this morning. the driver was airlifted to the hospital, but their injuries are unclear right now. no word on how the chase started. or why. erika: a wisconsin man is under arrest, accused of plotting a terror attack at a masonic temple in milkwaukee. the f.b.i. says samy mohammed hamzeh planned to kill at least 30 people with a machine gun. two f.b.i. informants say he also had plans to travel to the west bank in october to attack israeli soldiers. hamzeh is charged with receiving and possessing a firearm not registered to him. a freak accident is under investigation on route 128 in lexington. a tire flying off of a pick-up truck killing a man driving in a car on the other side of the highway.

released, police only saying that he is from lexington. no word on any charges against the 19-year-old woman behind the wheel of the pick up. randy: a billerica woman has died after this crash in tewksbury. police say the 66-year-old crashed yesterday afternoon into a pile of rocks and a tree on shawsheen street. and no other vehicles were involved. police say it's unclear what caused the crash. several boston students are facing discipline amid concern over racism at schools. they are protesting how minority students are treated at the school. students have been disciplined for using threatening or racial erika: the bruins head into the all star break with an backup goalie jonas gustavsson was taken out in the first

undisclosed illness. gustavsson does have a history of an abnormal heart rhythm. as for the game, the rest of the b's barely showed up. anaheim scores four goals in a row adding two more in the final minute. b's lose, 6-2. randy: marathon bombing survivor adrienne haslet-davis is returning to the marathon as a competitor the professional dancer lost a leg in the attack. she says she has begun training for the april 18 marathon. haslet-davis will run to raise money for the limbs for life foundation, which helps provide prosthetics to amputees who cannot afford them. it is great. erika: so, cindy. a nice day. cindy: yeah. we were 51 yesterday. that is not going to happen today but we're still looking at above average temperatures. we got a little bit of snow here. over the weekend, for the

at this point last year we had almost 13 inches. we're still trailing behind, which is average this time of year. last year at this time, we were on the second day of our blizard, the first in a series of four major snowstorms in 3 1/2 weeks. we had 24.6 inches of snow in boston. more than 30 inches in worcester. the greatest snowstorm of all time. we have mild temperatures now. average high, 36. we'll be in the 40's the next couple of days. and fall back into the 30's as we head into the weekend. tradeoffs this morning, a lot of clouds. a couple of showers along the south coast and the cape the next few hours and then we'll dry things out. 40's with melting from boston to new york to philly to d.c. milder temperatures across the we are going to see a decent
