through the tennessee valley. this is what is coming our way by this evening. as we go through time this morning, clouds thicken up but mainly dry for most of us here through 8:00 this morning. thereafter if you're from worcester on westward, you may see a couple showers by lunchtime but the bulk of the weather comes in at lunchtime to the afternoon. by your evening commute you're talking rain in the yellows, indicating potential for heavier downpours and will turn quite wet by day's end. we'll be in the lower 50's by the end of the day as the wind pick up out of the south-southeast to 15-20 miles per hour. as we get deeper in the day, the rain impacts ramp up so the evening commute likely will be challenging weatherwise. let's get you to your morning commute. how are we doing? olessa: so far good shape. inside route 1, saga headed to the bottom of the screen, a nice right in both directions. going to the maps and checking out your trips, no complaints.

showdown before the primary next tuesday. randy: we have an update on a helicopter crash that killed 12 u.s. marines including a massachusetts man off the coast of hawaii. the marine corps says trace elements of d.n.a. were found during search and rescue operations and the d.n.a. identified some of the victims. it's not clear which ones. 23-year-old marine corporal christopher orlando of hingham was on one of those choppers that crashed last month. today the long time girlfriend of murderer whitey bulger heads back to the federal court in boston. catherine creig is expected to plead guilty to contempt charges. she refuses to give information about people who helped bulger in his 16 years on the run. creig is serving eight years for helping the boston crime boss avoid capture. emily: right now the driver behind this tragic crash is preparing to learn his punishle. this case has been full of emotional twists and turns for everyone involved.

antonio is live at the courthouse in brighton on what to expect today. antoinette: we know emotions will be running high today. so many lives were shattered by that devastating crash three years ago. 20-year-old nicolas pap do luss was charged with causing the crash that injured several people including the man in the car he hit on jamaica plains arborway. kevin cellucci was at the courthouse when the verdict went down. the father of three can't walk, talk or eat because of his injuries. at that time a family spokesperson described how their lives had been changed. >> he requires around the clock care and it's an awful situation, awful situation. and he does have three young boys. antoinette: tap do luss -- papadopoulos agreed to plead guilty but after the judge told

in jail he changed his mind. family members are expected to be here for today's sentencing and we will be here as well to let you know what happens. we're live in brighton this morning, antoinette antonio, wcvb, newscenter 5. emily: two investigations are underway for a boy rushed to the hospital. the boston police and families is looking what happened before kenai whyte was taken to the hospital with traumatic injuries. d.c.f. spoke to a caretaker two days before the incident and that worker claims he was fine and well fed. randy: three fifth graders in theory well have been diagnosed and go to the town's two different elementary schools in norwell. it's not recommended they take antibiotics but parents are told to watch for symptoms including prolonged coughing

prosecutors are dropping the case of a shooting of a high school student because of a lack of shooting. the police say the suspects were spotted leaving the roxbury department belonging to former english high dean shaun harrison and is accused of shooting the teen inhe head over drugs. the teen survived and harrison facing trial in may. emily: some lack leaders are calling for change at boston latin after racial problems at the school. they posted a video on youtube and wore all black to show solidarity last week. communities leaders wants anyone who shows any racist behavior to be disciplined. >> why weren't there a swifter and higher response from the md mine -- the administration head master and what is the discipline coming forth? we thank them that they are investigating but how long is it going to take? emily: the superintendent launched an investigation that will take two weeks.

worcester not freezing, and 20's in orange down to springfield and a little chilly this morning but we have a wind strengthening from the south-southeast and will bring in temperatures before the rain moves in. you see how the wind comes up over the course of the day. by lunchtime the winds up 20 miles per hour and that may see gusts 30 to 40 miles per hour by the time we get to this evening. wind and rain on the day. you see the bulk of the rain now lifting northeast ward through central and western parts of new york state and on the extreme leading edge of this, there's a little bit of snow near the canadian border but we're watching the frontal boundary. see the yellows? these are heavy downpours and will work on in as we get towards the evening. as the front approaches the winds pick up and they're topping into this, 50's and 60's, current temperatures now and that's what will be working on in. the temperatures are in the 30's this morning. we'll climb up in the 40's through lunchtime and then it's

we'll start to get up into the 50's. in fact, i think we'll see the high temperatures this evening and that's when we should be in the lower 50's across most of the area and even mid 50's possible down to the south. so it's a warm, windy setup and the rain takes the time getting on in. by 8:00 this morning most of us are still primarily dry and through lunchtime, best chances of seeing a shower are from worcester on west. as we get into the afternoon, here comes the rain. the evening commute will feature downpours. look at this on the south coast of the cape heading into this evening. this is where we could see lightning and thunder with a potential for that through the late evening hours and then by the morning hours tomorrow, everything is starting to shift offshore and we'll see a clearing trend as we get into the day tomorrow. in terms of how much rain, the heaviest in southeastern massachusetts, or otherwise it's a half inch to an inch and the temperatures holding near 50 degrees. we'll start out near 50 tomorrow and hold steady throughout the day.

hall in martha's vineyard, the aquinnah wampanoag tribe now wants to set up hundreds of betting machines in the community center on its land. the state and the town of aquinnah are debating this issue and trying to block the development. an unusual warning for your health this morning. the centers for disease control say that they want any woman under the age of 45 to avoid alcohol if they're not using birth control. the guidelines issued in an effort to reduce the number of babies born with fetal alcohol syndrome. the c.d.c. says about half of all pregnancies in the united states are unplanned and even if planned, most women won't know they're pregnant for the first month or so when they might still be drinking. you think you're eating healthy but some common myths may be derailing your efforts. emily: first you may think egg whites are healthier than the

after math of a serious storm a week ago. this is in south dakota now. blizzard conditions there with up to 14 inches of snow expected. all right. we have a nice start here in new england today. it may not end that way. cindy: we've been watching that same storm because it has been bringing a lot of wintry weather from iowa to minnesota and you see the bulk of the snow is gone with the storm heading into canada and we'll in on that rain heading to the deep south. there were several tornados yesterday. it's a potent storm system. let me show you what it looks like on radar. i focused everything to the west because that's where the activity is right now. but at that frontal boundary and cold front gets closer to us this afternoon is when we get in on some of the heavier downpours associated with the system. look at the temperatures. we're in the 30's right now but out ahead of that front, 50's and 60's. the front gets closer and winds pick up out of the south we'll
