5:13 am
we have two storm systems we're watching. the first one looks like the bigger punch coming in tomorrow, into tomorrow night, into first thing tuesday morning. that's why i have the high risk of snow starting on monday going to a medium chance on tuesday because that storm system should push out of here by tuesday late morning. then wednesday there could be lingering showers from that second system that comes on through although that one looks to do more of a glancing blow. this one, the first one, coming closer now. that's why boston, worcester, you're now included in the winter storm watch. looking for some snow as well as some ocean-enhanced snow especially folks down in southeastern mass near the cape cod canal. you could see the greatest totals i think from this system. we have a one-two punch. the first one coming in overnight tonight into first thing tomorrow morning down here. then a second storm we're watching that will come through late tuesday afternoon into first thing wednesday. this one down to the south though, remember we talked about it. yesterday it wasn't even on radar. now look at it. very impressive.
5:14 am
mexico. it's starting to flip over to snow as that real heavy rain comes down in with the cold air out ahead of it, it turns into the snow. future cast for us. here's what happens. today we're dry. we're looking at sunshine but the clouds increase overnight. the snow is going to start flying. by 5:00 a.m. around the cape cod canal and then pulling south and east. there could be a little bit of mixing on the onset of this. i think it turns very quickly over to just plain old snow as temperatures start to cool down overnight. by 8:00 thoi in the morning, it's in boston. it's in worcester. and then by 11:00 or so, snow is flying everywhere tomorrow. and then it continues to come down at a pretty good clip. it may lighten a little bit for the ride home from work. you notice a couple of breaks in there. still heavy snow in worcester in boston going to make for a tricky commute into work but also on the way home from work. then it's really going to fill back in overnight monday into first thing tuesday. it looks like even tuesday morning's commute could be a snowy one.
5:15 am
from this, we're looking for 4-7 inches you see in this deeper blue color. that does include boston to worcester. lesser amounts outside of 495 and outside of worcester county. only about 2-4 inches for you folks. and then i do think there's going to be an area somewhere in here with the ocean-enhancement that could see seven inches or maybe even above that in some locations. it's not just the snow we're talking about wind and the potential for coastal flooding high. we have northeast winds ramping up tomorrow gusting to about 45 miles an hour over cape cod. and then we're watching the high tide coming in tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. this is the coastal flood watch from these areas so if you live by the beach you want to be careful and be aware of that. so this system going to come through and impact us all day pretty much monday into first thing tuesday. here's that second system coming in but notice it goes farther off shore so really i think it's more coastal snow and just light snow showers we're talking about through tuesday afternoon. on wednesday though there could

(burke) smash and grub. seen it. covered it. we know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two. we are farmers. bum-pa-dum, bum-bum-bum-bum antoinette: just about 5:42 on your sunday morning. the i.r.s. back in business this morning. the agency has resumed processing 2015 federal tax returns following a hardware glitch. the failure had knocked some computers out of service. refund wait times do not seem to be affected. nine out of 10 taxpayers will receive their refunds within 21 days after their tax returns are received and accepted. but right now there's a new warning to taxpayers. officials saying scammers are working the phones to steal your money. doug: those suspicious calls and threats cost americans millions. the eyeopener's frank holland is here to explain how you can protect your money. frank: this morning, the i.r.s.

are threatened if they don't pay right away. >> we'll put you behind bars. frank: that's the sample of the type of call victims get, someone claiming to be from the i.r.s., demanding payment of back taxes. the i.r.s. telling everyone to be on high alert. the agency is also getting the word out that the i.r.s. generally makes first contact by letter, will never demand immediate payment, and does not threaten force. but starting next month, it may get harder to tell a scammer from a legitimiate tax call. a new law requires the i.r.s. to hire collection agencies to collect taxes, and those agencies may call taxpayers. steve weisman: in the future, when collectors are actually calling on behalf of the i.r.s, people will be more likely to fall for that scam. frank: since october 2013, 5,000 people have lost more than $26-million to telephone scammers. >> now your storm team 5 forecast with meteorologist danielle vollmar.

quiet day today as high pressure really dominates our weather, but we're watching two systems-- one to our south that's going to influence us and bring us some snow beginning tomorrow morning. and then another system out to the west that's going to develop another area of low pressure to bring us more snow beginning tuesday afternoon into wednesday. now this first system i think has the bigger punch though because its track will be closer to our shoreline. you can already see it has a lot of moisture as it moves in to parts of north carolina. this is going to track though up the eastern seaboard headed in our area. so today is dry. we'll see clouds increase later on this evening. and overnight the clouds really fill in. the rain or excuse me the snow starts flying around 5:00 a.m. it may actually start off as a mix or some rain on the cape and islands. but then we'll quickly transition to all snow. here. it is snowing from boston to worcester and points south and good clip.
5:44 am
it could be a mess he a one especially south and east of the mass pike. as we head towards 11:00 now, you folks up in new hampshire are involved. western mass, the berkshires. everybody seeing some snow. and it continues through the afternoon. may lighten up a bit on the ride home from work especially to the south but notice worcester, boston and even the cape still involved by 5:00. and then fills right back in overnight and continues for first thing tuesday morning. notice this is the back edge of it starting to dry out in connecticut by 5:00 tuesday morning. when all is said and done from this first system, we're to see 2-4 inches outside of 495 and outside of really the city of worcester but in this deeper blue area you see from boston to worcester, north shore included on this, 4-7 inches. the outer edge of the cape also included. nantucket as well as the vineyard. but then here in this little area here, i think because of ocean enhancement we could see search inches or more in some spots so be aware of that.
5:45 am
only snow trouble but we're talking about the potential for strong, tbufty winds from this storm. that could lead to even coastal flooding especially during high tide and of course some commute problems. the wind gusts will be in excess of 45 miles an hour on the cape and islands. and even maybe cape ann. inside of that we're talking 30-mile-per-hour wind gusts pretty much all day long tomorrow. the other thing is that wind is going to pile up the water. tides are astronomically high so we're watching that 11:00 a.m. high tide. could see pockets of minor coastal flooding from this system. so here's the first one. it comes in and then it moves out of here by tuesday morning. and then this second low pressure system forms off the back end, but notice its track is farther off shore so that throws some snow, some coastal snow, that is, for tuesday night into first thing wednesday. but it looks like this track may actually miss us or at least parts of western mass as well as new hampshire. so here we go. i'm showing you future cast one more time. here comes that area of low pressure.
5:46 am
