bike. newscenter five' s juli mcdonald is live with the latest on the investigation. juli: that 15-year-old continues to recover this evening; he was initially flown to beth israel yesterday afternoon, and then was transferred to children' s. police and the da' s office are still looking into exactly what happened during an exchange between the boy and the driver moments before he was hit. lowell police are still looking for the driver who witnesses say intentionally hit a teen on a bike just before 2 friday afternoon. as investigators piece together what happened, they' re even more confident the hit and run was neither an accident nor random. >> some of the witness who came forward said there was some type of argument or discussion between the occupants of the truck and this young man. juli: when the boy rode off, witnesses say the truck drove on the wrong side of the road after him, sending him flying off his bike. >> the white pickup truck we were looking for fled on lawrence street.

and found part of the bike had been dragged almost a mile away on bolt street. and on the other end of the street the abandoned truck parked behind a landscaping business. investigators believe they have an idea who was driving and who else was in the car, though it may not be to whom the truck with new hampshire plates is registered. when police first began searching for the truck, they sought the public' s help. you' ll hear part of the ' code red message' neighbors received, next at 6. reid: right now, firefighters are investigating a three alarm fire at a home in lawrence. the fire broke out this afternoon at this home on butler street. lowell, andover, and north andover fire departments were called in to help put out the flames. the good news here was no one was hurt. pam: commitment 2016, the jeb bush campaign just announcing former president george w. bush will hit the campaign trail for his brother. he and former first lady laura bush will speak at an event in north charleston, south carolina on monday. meanwhile the six republicans

reid: on his route this week, postal worker new something was just not right. sera congi explains tonight, his instinct is credited with saving a man' s life. sera: tom balzano takes pride in knowing the people he serves on his mail route. >> i feel like i know everybody. sera: so when one braintree resident broke his routine, balzano took notice. >> i used to see him once or he' d always come out on the tenth of every month to get his social security check and when he didn' t come out a couple of days ago, i got concerned. sera: once the 67-year-old' s mail started to stack up, balzano contacted police. >> it just didn' t seem right. sera: braintree fire was called in to help get into the locked it' s estimated he was there for at least three days. when firefighters found the man he was alive and conscious, and then taken to south shore hospital.

pam: the flawed evidence that sent this man to prison for 30 years, is now inspiring an effort. to look at more cases. five investigates helped expose questions about george perrot' s conviction. reid: now, as karen anderson shows us, there' s a new effort under way to find out if bad science put anyone else behind bars. >> what goes through your mind? >> all these cameras. karen: three decades behind bars comes to an end for george perrot, walking out of a new bedford court house after a judge threw out his conviction and released him on bail. are there more george perrot' s locked up in massachusetts because of bad science about hair analysis? >> absolutely . karen: lisa kavanaugh helped perrot win his release after the fbi in 2014 admitted mistakes were made from their use of microscopic hair analysis. but the fbi' s wasn' t alone. the massachusetts state police performed the same kind of analysis and are now reviewing

similar errors were made. >> the findings of the fbi' s national audit made clear that errors were rampant. and analysts were again and again, exceeding the limits of science and overstating the certainty. and i think there is no reason to think state analysts were any better given what we know about how they are trained. karen: kavanaugh says ropes and gray whose attorney' s helped free perrot has pledged to work with defendants on the statewide check of hair analysis cases. so far, only the middlesex county district attorney has agreed to review any problem cases with defense lawyers. >> what' s your message to the other das out there? my hope is that other district attorneys will see this as an important opportunity to find and possibly correct unjust convictions. the state' s the d-as still have to figure ll deal with any cases flagged by the review. the state police has so far

string of jewelry robberies across the south. the fbi now says the woman caught on camera committing the crimes was recruited and trained. newscenter five' s antoinette antonio has the story. antoinette: the infamous alleged jewerly store robber seen on security cameras across the south? now the face of a crime spree? this morning, in newly released court documents, fbi investigators say 24-year-old abigal kemp was just part of a four-person team behind the string of violent robberies. >> i need you to respond to an armed robbery. antoinette: brothers larry and michael gilmore appearing in federal court on friday, charged with conspiracy to interfere with commerce by threats of officials accusing the pair along with lewis jones iii of finding, recruiting, and training kemp. the fbi alleges the gilmore brothers' atlanta tint shop served as kemp' s robbery training school where the 3 men taught her to manipulate a handgun, zip tie workers, choose what merchandise to steal, and speak in code words. according to agents, the group routinely practiced until they

the chain of custody a fish imported to the u.s.. the council says the rule changes are crucial to combat illegal fishing that harms food security and law-abiding fishermen. pam: hawaii has joined the fight against the zika virus. the governor declared a state of emergency to fight the mosquito borne illness. the state is in the midst of a dengue fever outbreak more than 250 cases have been confirmed there. there have been no locally transmitted cases of zika but there is concern that the mosquitoes that carry dengue fever can also carry zika. the governor hopes the emergency will bring in more money to control outbreaks. brazil also strengthening its battle against the zika virus. more than 200,000 military troops are going door-to-door informing people about the virus and the mosquito that carries it. the troops are also focusing on how to get rid of mosquito breeding areas in and around homes. the goal is to visit three million homes. brazil is at the center of the

up. how about these numbers are you boston at one degree. pam: anyway you added up, that is cold. mike: it really is, and so dramatic considering what we have been going through. it has been a mild winter so far, in new york temperatures were in the 20' s. we had 30 degrees, the warmest temperature in boston. you probably noticed the wind coming up, then the temperature continues to drop arian that it -- that is what it is going to do all night tonight. along with that cold, it pick some moisture up in the ocean. if that wind with change directions, we may even talk a bit of snow out toward the outer cape. don' t rule that out.

he spoke like overnight lows, but these are the temperatures. monday we warm up, tuesday we' ve really warm up with temperatures in the lower 50' s as you look toward the north. seven degrees right now, tomorrow morning, 14 degrees below zero. a search of warm air comes in. along with that warm air comes the threat of seeing some snow and eventually some rain area about 13 degrees. here are those wind' s. these are the sustained winds. as the day goes on they do settle back in. it really is only 24 hours of the real cold we are talking about.
