first we'll check with danielle. we are in the middle of a fabulous weekend, danielle. danielle: 60 degrees yesterday in boston, if you can believe that. outside enjoying the nice weather. and this morning is no exception take a look. we're at 50 degrees currently in is it february? just making sure. it's 45 on the vineyard right now and 44 degrees on nantucket. so obviously it's a mild start. one of the reasons why is these winds are pretty strong out of the west today. you can see they're sustained at 14 miles an hour in boston. 18-mile-an-hour winds in worcester. those strong winds continuing to warm our temperatures up through the afternoon today so we're really going to hold steady i think today maybe warming up into the upper 40's, low 50's for highs. a few mid 50's though i think still could be achieved especially on the south shore and the cape. we'll see a lot of sunshine to start. more clouds working their way in in the aftnoon. here's what's happening. a couple snow showers up through northern new england but for us we're a dry start out here.

you can see rain here over the ohio river valley. all of this is headed in our direction. i'll have the timeline coming up. sera and doug. sera: thank you, danielle. breaking overnight a frightening situation unfolding in michigan. doug: seven people are dead three others hurt after a series of random shootings in kalamazoo. the "eyeopener"'s frank holland is tracking developments. frank: michigan state police say they have a strong suspect in custody. investigators say the 45-year-old was driving around the city and opening fire on random people. police say a man and his son were shot and dilled at this dealership. five more were killed outside of a cracker barrel restaurant including a 14-year-old girl. the shooting spree began at an apartment complex on saturday night. a woman was shot multiple times while she was standing outside with her three children. she survived and remains in serious condition. >> we have multiple people dead. in summary it looks like somebody just driving around finding people and shooting them dead in their tracks.

sheriff's office says a weapon was found in the suspect's car. they say that man did not put up a fight when he was pulled over and arrested just before 1:00 this morning. so far police have not been able to figure out any motive for the murder spree. doug, over to you. jeb bush: the people of iowa, new new hampshire and south carolina have spocken and i really respect their decision. so tonight i am suspending my campaign. sera: jeb bush getting emotional announcing he is out of the race for presidency. the former florida governor coming in fourth in the south carolina primary. doug: donald trump and hillary clinton the big winners in the latest presidential contests. it's a second straight for trump. reub owe edging on the senator ted cruz. but the results are still unofficial. rubio: this has become a three-person race and we will win the nomination.

doug: welcome back. right now fire investigators are searching for the cause of this massive mill fire. it started around 3:00 a.m. saturday morning in the sagamore mill in fall river. the building collapsed under the intense flames. investigators say the mill was vacant and are looking for clues as to how the fire started. tears and many questions as a call for help from the "el faro" was played publicly. the call made on the day the ship sank in hurricane joaquin. sera: the eye's frank holland has been following the hearing. frank? frank: part of the captain's distress call was played during a coast guard hearing into sinking last october. captain's voice: we have a hull breech. a scuttle blew open during a storm. frank: captain john davidson was looking for a q.i. or qualified individual to help the crew make repairs as the ship was getting battered during the hurricane. captain's voice: we have water down in 3 hold with a heavy lift. we have lost the main propulsion unit. the engineers can not get it

into the 50's in boston. although you notice the temperature trend is on the way down monday and tuesday and then back up on wednesday to where we should be this time of year. now the colder air is going to come in from this cold front triggering a couple of snow showers up in northern new england. but what we're really concerned with is actually this area of low pressure down to the south. it has a bit of moisture with it. it looks like later on this evening through the overnight hours, there could be a chance for some rain maybe turn to go a mix at that time tail end for the south coast, the cape and the islands. we'll talk more about that in just a second. first though right now this morning, really we're looking at pretty much mostly clear skies to start. i think we'll see a lot of sunshine this morning. then more clouds will build in from that approaching system. it is 50 degrees in boston though. at the 5:00 hour. 44 in worcester. 41 preliminary u. 45 on the cape. 44 on nantucket. we do have a gusty wind out there. you'll feel it if you step outside the door.

miles per hour now in worcester. 23-mile-per-hour winds out of the west in boston but it's a warm wind this time of the year. through the day today, we are going to see a lot of sunshine through the morning hours. clouds increase through the afternoon. and the winds hold pretty steady anywhere from 10-15 miles an hour. so highs today, low to mid 50's along boston, the south shore, upper 40's on the cape. mid 40's in worcester county as well as through the merrimack valley. for tonight, we drop back into the 20's and 30's. notice we're right around 32 degrees on the cape with our next approaching system. so let me show you what happens. by lunchtime today, here come those clouds. they continue to be around through the afternoon. a couple of showers again starting as rain showers. it's so mild. but at the very tail end of this, you notice pink in here. could see a mix or maybe some snow. really though it's the south coast, the cape and the islands really plymouth and points south i think now. this system continues to trend farther south.

and by 9:00 we are clearing out. temperatures behind it are dropping as we have the colder air moving on in. so we're at 40 tomorrow in boston. 39 in worcester. about 10-15 degrees cooler. then there's another chance for a storm. this is a bigger storm system. it looks like it will start off as some snow on wednesday because it's cold enough but it's going to quickly transition to a mix and then all rain. it looks like when the heaviest rain comes through, which looks to be on thursday morning now, it is going to be warm and windy so we're talking about just mainly rain because this track has shifted farther to the west, as you notice, and that is a warmer track for us. what that means is some heavy rain, anywhere frey inch to two inches. coastal concerns are possible because tides are astro namically high. again, we are concerned a little bit with some ice especially the farther inland you go because you could hold on to the colder air for a little by longer. it looks like a rain event. we were all hoping for that

were not working. the state's fire marshall's office says this is the 12th fatal fire this year, and the common thread they're seeing-- a lack of working smoke alarms. the identity of one of two victims killed in a fire in groton last month has been confirmed. 66-year-old douglas palmisano died january 28 when a fire broke out at his home on whiley road. another person was killed. their identity has yet to be released. still no word on what caused the fire. an investigation is ongoing. doug: two u.n.h. students are in jail accused of stabbing another student near the campus. matthew gibbons and eric denning are charged in the attack of the 20-year-old early saturday. the victim was found on madbury road. he had to undergo surgery for two stab wounds. right now a child is recovering after being hit by a car in taunton. police say the child was hit on paul bunker drive yesterday. the child suffered non-life threatening injuries. police say it appears to be an

danielle: you saw people on patios yesterday. it reminded me of summertime. i said, wait. is this february? we'll enjoy it. it was 60 degrees in boston yesterday. you know, last sunday we were in we'll take it. make. boston. we're already mild to start out this february 21 morning. in fact it's 44 in worcester. 45 on the cape. 48 degrees right now in portsmouth. so temperatures on the way up. and we also have pretty strong wind gusts this morning. and they're gusting up over 32 miles an hour now in worcester. 23-mile-per-hour wind gusts in boston and lawrence. and they are out of the west today so that wind will be with us through the afternoon. anywhere from 10 to about 15 miles per hour. not as windy as yesterday but still pretty breezy. we'll see sunshine through about midday. then increasing clouds from our approaching system. we have one coming from the north and one coming actually out from the south. temperatures today, low 50's

mid 50's along the south shore. upper 40's on the cape. upper 40's in the merrimack valley. and mid 40's in worcester. we'll see sunshine with increasing clouds tonight will be a cloudy night overall for everybody. temperatures dropping back into the 20's and 30's. and the cape will be around 32 degrees. that's one thing we have to watch because we have a system coming in bringing some rain which could change over to a mix or even some snow for early on monday morning. we'll talk more about that in just a second. here it is right here. this is the system i'm talking about. knoll it's a little farther to the south. really just going to graze our area. as it does, we're bringing in colder air from this cold front. so because of that, we could see that changeover. let me show you everything on the future cast. basically we're dry through the day. the clouds increase after lunchtime. and then watch what happens. about 11:00 or so, we start to see some showers develop along the south coast. i think we could see showers as far north as, say, plymouth or so.

the models have been trending farther south with this one. as we go towards 6:00 tomorrow morning, notice what happens. there's a little pink on here, an indication it could quickly flip over. that is as temperatures are borderline and fall quick enough. if not, it may just be plain old rain. it gets out of here very quickly. not really a big impact at all. by 9:00, all of us seeing a lot of sunshine. anybody north really of the cape and the islands is saying what rain at all? in fact, we're going to be dry pretty much all day monday. monday the other thing will be even though we see a lot of sunshine temperatures are going to fall because we have a northwest wind on monday. so we're talking upper 30's in worcester, low 40's in boston. and a few low 40's across the map. you see it's a much colder day tomorrow versus today. now we are going to watch this week. tuesday is a dry day. a much colder day. that sets us up for our system, the big one, coming in wednesday into thursday. it's a later start now. looks like a wednesday afternoon start. because temperatures are cold

off, i think, as some snow. however, we're going to quickly warm things up. that will change over then to a mix and then finally just plain old rain. heavy rain is coming in thursday morning into early afternoon, but it is in the form of rain because you see that track. it's more to the west. again, we are looking at potential coastal concerns with this one too because of a strong southwest to actually southeast wind. because of that, highs are also astronomically high. we're going to have to watch that very carefully. but the good news with this one is it is looking like mostly rain. the only differential will be in the higher elevations with some ice. doug and sera. sera: thanks, danielle. the time is 5:47. checking more stories happening right now. doug: thousands of supporters are protesting the conviction of a former police officer. peter liang was found guilty of killing an unarmed man in a dark stairwell in new york city. liang claims the shooting was an accident. many of liang's supporters say he is being scapegoated because of anger over other police shootings in new york and across the country.

unfairly because he is asian-american. sera: the body of a man believed to have gone swimming off narragansett, rhode island, has been found. early findings suggest the body of peter butler washed ashore yesterday. it has been sent to the state medical examiner for positive identification. the coast guard had been searching for butler since thursday. doug: a new bill targets puppy mills in boston. city councilor matt o'mally wants to stop pet stores from selling dogs, cats, and other animals that they purchase from commercial breeders. o'mally tells "the globe" the vast majority of animals sold in pet stores come from large-scale breeding facilities and many do not care for the animals properly. sera: disneyland is celebrating its diamond anniversary. and tonight abc is joining the party honoring walt disney for his big, bold creation with a glamorous, star-studded event. the special will also showcase two dazzling displays of technology. the "paint the night" parade and "world of color" celebrate the wonderful world of disney.
