bars. police are searchi for a second suspect who got away. nicole estefan is live in saugus. reporter: for several hours now police were hunting for wanted man. they have been concentrating on the woods in this area. they are asking area residents to be vigilant. >> wanted. the search is on from the air and on the ground in saugus. >> i was in bed and heard a large impact and got up and went outside and saw the car in the middle of the street banged up. reporter: it began early monday morning on route one when the state police spotted a stolen eke have. a brief chase ensued and was called off. and then minutes later the suspect's car crashed into this suv. the driver shaken, but no idea who was inside. >> are you okay? car? >> no, i don't know that.

driver, 45-year-old michael guthrow and passenger 32-year-old jacqueline murphy are responsible for the assault of a revere officer with a high per deer mick needle. it ended in this crash and an officer seriously injured. >> it is scary. he is a dangerous person. reporter: guthrow unsuccessfully tried to carjack a woman before taking off on foot. in hand handcuffs and on a stretcher he was arrested on the scene. heather:that was nicole reporting. and harvey leonard is joining us now. i loved the mild weekend. harvey: wasn't it great? winter is making a come back. >> it is going to make a bit of a come back. we have two storms, one over the southeast and that's the first one. >> that has a lot of water with it.

on wednesday for the freezing drizzle over the central portions of our area. ed: a boy is charged with the stabbing of a 15-year-old boy. now more on what sparked the deadly attack. todd kazakiewich is live. reporter: ed, we learned in court that it started as an argument between the vehicle tim and the girlfriend of the defendant. things escalated quickly. the girlfriend allegedly got a knife. it started on the other side of columbia road. the victim staggers across bleeding with moments to live. >> mr. hopkins died of a stab wound to his heart. he was 15 years of age. reporter: prosecutors say the killer is also a teenager. 16-year-old amari pope is seen here in his booking photo. the fatal stabbing happened in dorchester. a neighborhood home to pope and the victim, deion hopkins, who is being remembered

it started as an arangement between pope's girlfriend and hopkins. pope grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed hopkins in the heart. >> surveillance video show moments after mr. hopkins fell to the ground essentially lifeless and mr. pope standing over him and circling him with a knife in his hands. >> hopkins was rushed to bmc where he was know -- was pronounced dead. his unkl -- uncle has sadness. >> it is a child. of course there is animosity. it is a message. reporter: pope is being charged as an adult. during the arraignment he was allowed to hideout side the courtroom. the prosecutor said as hopkins was rushed to the hospital on sunday afternoon pope and his family approached police and pope confessed. pope has several other open cases, but obviously this murder charge is the most serious. tonight he is being held

court date which comes up at the end of march. todd kazakiewich, wcvb newscenter 5. heather:a framingham man is being held without bail. 19-year-old william mccuin and a second suspect, neither of whom is a umass student was let in the dorm to complete the drug deal. during the deal he struck the victim in the head with a handgun and ran off with $120. the suspect is on the loose. ed: a bizarre car crash. the car slammed into the building. the driver then ran off. then the brockton woman showed up at the police station and admitted it was her. police say she overcompensated and lost control of the car and alcohol was not involved. the driver will not be charged with leaving the scene of an accident and negligent operation. the patched up hole is rather

for business. heather:commitment 2016 and a week to go from the massachusetts primary. bernie sanders is back in the bay state. he was in boston this afternoon and he is holding a rally in amhurst. >> 9,000 supporters are expected at the rally on the campus. he spent the day here in the bay state you a -- in the bay state. the presidential contender held a news conference in boston where he received the endorsent in of national people's action. that's a grassroots organization. we spent a lot of time discussing the difference of opinion he has with hillary clinton on five critical issues. the vermont senator was critical saying she is starting to take a page from the senator's campaign book. >> i have to say that i am delighted that secretary

after month seems to be adopting more and more of the positions that we have advocated. that's good. in fact is beginning to use lot of the language and phraseology. i saw a tv add and i thought it was me. turns out it was secretary clinton's picture in the ad. reporter: senator sanders' home stage of vermont and massachusetts are the two new england states that will vote on super tuesday. sanders is not the first candidate to turn his attention to massachusetts. over the weekend ohio governor john kasich had an event the same day as the south carolina primaries. about 9,000 people are expected and many of whom attended here. they were in line for hours. the college-age voting demographic is right up the

appealing a lot to what he has to say is falling on supportive here on college campuses. reid lamberty, wcvb, newscenter 5. ed: on the republican side it is on to nevada. donald trump is there as are marco rubio and ted cruz. trump is leading with rubio and cruise locked in a battle for second. today cruz fired his national campaign spokesman after a posting of a video that accuses cruz of dismissing the bible. heather:and an officer is allowed to resign and never face his chill charges. more on an alleged cover up. >> they are looking for who ever lost this. >> and just some time to give us some snow this time tomorrow night.

heather: 5 investigates an alleged cover up. this comes after a police officer accused of sexual misconduct was allowed to resign and never faced criminal charges. ed: why he never faced charges. his story changed after a woman went to the police. >> so you didn't commit any sexual acts. ed: to an admission he was there with his pants open even though he insisted he was not masterbating. >> i want to you a apologize to lying to both of you. the only thing i can say is i was playing with myself.

for personal reasons. even know the record shows the department considered charging him with a crime. after he resigned they say they were using vacation time and he decided he would not be returning. the facts remained a secret for two years as they fought the release of the records. they were forced to appeal to the secretary of state's office twice and they ruled in our favor both times. then the city took the unusual step of giving him another woke to try to stop the records from becoming public. >> were you trying to protect sergeant chasen? >> absolutely not. reporter: it wasn't a cover up, but he is now speaking out to his local newspaper raising more questions. my decision to leave the police department was based on an agreement with the city that the investigation would not be shared outside the department without my written consent. it is clear now that the city misrepresented their ability to comply with their end of the agreement. >> were you hoping this would just go away quietly?

mother and her baby is being held without bail. the victim's husband says this traumatic experience will haunt his wife for the rest of her life. rhondella richardson talked with him and she is live in brockton. rhondella? reporter: police say the carjacker was under the influence of crack cocaine. at first he jumped in the seat before the victim and then said oops wrong car and then it turned violent. for a second time jose robles is charged with arm carjacking. >> every time she pops the trunk to put groceries in and every time she puts it in the back of the car she will have to relive that day. there will be a degree of anxiety and panic she will have to deal with for the rest of her life. reporter: she unlocked her car and walked toward it. in the 9-1-1 call she said roble hoped in.

[inaudible]. >> it was a friend's car. reporter: it went from a cor jill apology to criminal. he pulls a bb gun on the mom and disoal her purse. the carjacker crashed. the family is so relieved that robles told sanders to unstrap the baby before the police chase and crash. robles was slapped with with a six-year sentence. >> it doesn't have to be your family. it can happen a third time. our little girl is fine. we have been concentrating on this last week stealing pieces of happiness back. reporter: and because it was a bb gun and not a firearm the defense attorney was arguing against the charge of armed robbery and armed carjacking with a failed arangement so far. argument so far.

that the winter is still here. heather:it is february. harvey: and as we enter you can expect more ups and downs to make reappearances with certainty. 35 is the temperature in boston. a gentle breeze that is off the water. it is in the 30s. you can see the cape is right in the low to mid30s as well. really the tip off of getting suddenly colder tonight into tomorrow is the temperatures in ottawa and quebec as it is moving down on the northeasterly winds. these are the temperatures to expect starting out your day tomorrow. certainly colder than today. we have a couple of storms. this is the first one. when this bumps into our region this time tomorrow, for awhile we will be cold enough for some snow. it went to stay that way, but enough for some accumulation. then the send storm is back in there. by the time it affects us, we

that won't be snow. here is storm number one. it comes on up and there is snow along the northern fringes. the snow is approaching hartford, connecticut. it is right around the evening commute. it can be right around the start of it or the end of it. the window will be very important. it will snow until close to midnight and then we will start to change over particularly along the coast to rain. the temperatures over the interior outside of 495 techily are going to remain below freezing. that transition will go to freezing drizzle and freezing rain. then we will get heavy rains eventually overnight wednesday night into thursday morning. what i am expecting is a coating to two inches of snow from southeastern mass before the rain takes over. from taunton to foxborough and points north and west, about one to three inches will accumulate discouring the first part of tomorrow night before -- accumulate during

night. it is because of freezing rain and freezing drizzle, that's why the winter weather advisory is in affect. if it looks like we can get more snow in the first two to four inches, the winter weather advisory will be expanded. the heavy rains will be the wednesday night late into thursday morning part of the storm. also strong southerly winds during that time and maybe even localized wind damage. even the thunderstorms cannot bree ruled out at that time -- cannot be ruled out at that time. the one thing we qant -- he want to talk about is the rainfall could easily be one to two inches. that's the deal. swree snow for tomorrow night at least for awhile and we have iciness over the interior. a windy and colder conclusion to the week and start to the
