today. really, enjoy it. it will be a mild at sunday. a couple clouds around right now. they should be clearing out later today. then, we are watching a system back to the north and west. a little rain over minneapolis. this is what is headed in our direction. we will bring up the next chance of showers. i will have a timeline on the showers and talk about when we could see a period of heavy rain ahead. doug: breaking news developing all morning long. law enforcement around the nation mourning the loss of a fallen officer. we' ve just learned has ties to new hampshire. she was killed in a shooting just south of washington, d.c. karen: the eyeopener' s frank holland is tracking the breaking developments. frank? frank: this is a developing story we' ve been following all morning long. we now know, officers in merrimack new hampshire were , called to notify the family of officer ashley guindon. this morning the family given the terrible news she lost her life in the line of duty. guindon was an officer for the

department in virginia. she was serving as an officer when she was shot and killed responding to eight domestic violence call on saturday night. this is new video into our newsroom. police and firefighters standing vigil, saluting the fallen officer. more than patrol cars lined the 100 roads outside a northern virginia hospital early this morning. they were there to provide a somber escort for the body. officer guindon' s very first shift, after being sworn in on friday. a woman inside the house police were responding to, was also killed. two other officers were injured in the shooting. collects -- >> i was at home be -- and i called the police because i heard pops. i thought it was a firework. they said it was officers in pursuit. doug: police say a suspect has been arrested. prosecutors have authorized a capital murder charge, along with other charges against the man. he has not been identified but police say he is in the military. he'

tomorrow. new this morning a family escaping from a burning home in marblehead overnight. flames shooting from the upper floors of this 2-alarm fire on willow road. a father woke up to the smoke detector going off. he was able to get his wife and 2 kids out of the house. no one was hurt. right now, four men are under period arrest in connection with breaking and entering in bedford. our juli mcdonald has more on the evidence that police say could tie these suspects to a series of crimes. >> he looked his window and saw someone breaking in. juli: a next-door neighbor save a day calling 911 is a witness is a break in. it started before noon friday. this black jeep pulled up with four men inside. >> they made entry through the window, open the front door. two other gentlemen got out of the car, enter the home. juli: fletcher wrote is practically across a road from the police station. officers responded within minutes. they arrested these four men. the case was far from over.

those winds continue out of the southwest and temperatures today respond. we will be a 53, 54 in lawrence. even 54 degrees in bedford. you go out into worcester county, 50 in gardner, 50 in rutland. even 50 degrees in worcester. down along the south shore in bridgewater, for example, 52 degrees. tomorrow, they are getting as warm as 55 degrees. that comes with a price. a shower or two will be around from a cold front. 51 on tuesday with mostly cloudy skies. down along the cape and islands, things right around 50 degrees. rain tomorrow coming from this area of low pressure you see. it is a cold front. it will slowly make its way toward our area. by 8:00 tomorrow morning, we are mainly to write, but there could be a couple of showers out in western mass. by lunchtime, worcester, boston could be seeing a couple of showers.

the south and east through the early part of the afternoon. by the time we are driving home from work, we not talking about showers anymore. as we head toward monday night into tuesday, this cold front will come through and bring those winds with it out of the north and west for tuesday afternoon. it is dry. maybe some clouds overnight into first thing tuesday. we watched this system here. you see it. an area of low pressure frying up moisture from the gulf of mexico. we will see a period of heavy, steady rain mainly on the day of wednesday. overnight tuesday, it could start up. basically, it is one area of low pressure. one forms behind it. no one is going to pull down cold air. when i say mainly rain, it is because of the tail end of this, as we get a northwest flow, we could see some snow mix in. especially north and west of worcester. more in the hillier elevations. accumulation if anything at all. toward friday, all eyes pointing

the schools says a hacker broke into a computer system storing financial data of 80,000 students, alumni and employees. the university says at this point there' s no evidence any information has been stolen. but potential victims have been told to look out for misuse of their personal information. doug: the cannon mountain tramway is running again, after being shut down for two weeks. 48 people were stranded about 40 feet in the air when the tram broke down on valentine' s day. state inspectors say the malfunction that caused the breakdown is fixed and the tram is safe to ride. more than people went up and 1000 down the mountain yesterday. karen: your next trip to disney could cost you a little more or less depending when you go. disney world will unveil new seasonal pricing today. the prices will be broken into 3 categories, value, regular, and peak times. so you' ll pay more over spring break and christmas time and get a discount during the slower months of september and october. the changes will not affect annual passes.

this morning. that plane coming to rest, upside down. the eyeopener' s frank holland is here to tell us how it happened. frank? frank a lot of people witnessed : the frightening moments just before this plane crashed at the plymouth airport. they say the pilot was the only person on-board this fixed-wing plane. he was practicing a training manuever called a touch and go landing when something went wrong. the plane crashing top down on on a grassy area-just feet from the runway. the pilot was seriously injured, he was med-flighted to brigham and women' s hospital. witnesses say he appeared to have some type of head trauma. investigators from the faa, -- >> the wing hit the ground and he nosedived purity cart wheeled wield a few times and landed on his back. >> investigators spent several hours digging through the rack and trying to figure out what caused this crash. the scene has been cleared. the plane being held in anger at the plymouth airport this morning. the investigation is still ongoing. doug: another incident involving a small plane at a local airport. this one in chatham, where a plane made a belly landing on

the landing gear never deployed. the pilot and a passenger karen: right now state police are investigating a deadly crash on 495 in norton. investigators say the driver of a toyota tacoma lost control in the median and hit a toyota yaris head on. the driver of that yaris was killed a passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. the tacoma driver, a 41-year-old man from mashpee, was taken to a rhode island hospital. their names have not yet been released. state police are asking for the public' s help to find a blue pick-up truck connected to this deadly crash in somerset. that pickup was carrying file cabinets in its bed friday morning when one fell off. the victim in this crash swerved to avoid it and lost control of his suv. he was pronounced dead at the

pickup truck stop on the side of after the accident. doug: right now police are searching for a missing man in 66-year-old leonard quirk was last seen leaving his home on moody street the night of was walking toward the charles river. 6" and was last seen wearing jeans, a green anyone with information is asked to call police. karen: a volunteer has been arrested and charged with stealing from a little girl who was severely burned and lost her family when someone set her home on fire. eight-year-old safyre terrry only wanted cards for christmas people around the world made her wish come true sending her more than a million letters. 41-year-old kimberly bradford, volunteered with the safyre' s angels organization is accused of stealing more than 1300 dollars in cash and gift cards that were supposed to be for the little girl. police in new york say they at bradford' s home.

s due in court next month. a lawrence man is locked up this morning, charged with heroin trafficking. this is what police seized in the bust, 300 grams of fentanyl laced heroin, worth $20,000. haverhill police along with a team of state, local and federal partners arrested 22-year-old christopher graciano-fernandez of lawrence in a mcdonalds parking lot yesterday. he' ll be arraigned tomorrow. doug: a special saturday meeting focusing on accusations of racism at the prestigious, boston latin high school. newscenter five' s sera congi was there as mayor walsh and community leaders talked about the tensions coming to light. >> mayor marty walsh meeting with community leaders about allegations of racism. the closed-door discussion heard it -- held at the urban league and roxbury lasted an hour and a half. >> it was very productive, positive, it was a deeper dive in terms of the issues.

danielle: that is what i am saying. temperatures tonight when you step out this evening in the upper 40' s. 50' s today. we will take that. it is a drive forecast. it looks good for all of you folks headed out there. weill be out there later tonight, too. try today, rain showers in the forecast. monday, very low risk, very hit or miss isolated showers. tuesday night into wednesday, wednesday, and rants up, steady, widespread rain. it may even and at snow north and west of worcester in the failure terrain. more about that in just a second. first, let' s talk about the system that will bring up some showers tomorrow, late morning into early afternoon. this cold front you see and the area of low pressure right now, we have had some clouds hanging around the region. they should begin to clear out as we head toward the afternoon. then, we are seeing some sunshine over boston. that is warming things up to 43 degrees.

making it feel more like 36 degrees. that is the windchill value. through the day, when will ramp up. be aware of that as we head toward this evening. anywhere from 10:20 miles per hour. 50 is the high-end worcester, 50 in boston. 50 degrees in the merrimack valley. tonight, a mild tonight, upper 30' s, low 40' s. we will take that at the end of february. tomorrow, we will warm into the mid-50' s in boston or the south shore, the north shore. worcester and orange may stay in the 40' s as the cold front comes faster for you folks and dropped temperatures back a touch. we are leaving in the chance for showers. here is how it all plays out. by 8:00 in the morning, some entering western mass, but it is about late morning, early afternoon. we start to see those showers breakout in central mass and metrowest and even into boston. later in the afternoon, the south shore and the cape could see it, too.

that will be dry. it will turn those wins to the north and west. you will feel them on tuesday. a breezy day. here comes the next system. the area of low pressure. it has moisture it is tapping into over the gulf of mexico. this is the widespread rain chance i' m talking about on wednesday. when all is said and done from the system, we could see anywhere from a half an inch to an inch in terms of rain, total. at the tail end, maybe some light snow. not looking for much in the way of accumulation. once we get to friday, this is what we are watching. a lot of days out, all i can change. one of the models, two of them holding on the idea of a coastal system setting up that would hit the benchmark. now it mean some potential widespread accumulating snow, especially in southeastern mass and strong wind without one, too. the time period would be friday night into saturday morning. again, that is several days out. a lot can change.

doug: breaking news in that tragedy in virginia. the female police officer shot and killed while responding to a domestic-violence call has ties to new hampshire. merrimack police notifying officer ashley guindon' of the shooting. two other officers were also injured in the shooting. a suspect is in custody. karen: four men are under arrest in connection with a home invasion in bedford. they are charged with breaking and entering and destroying property. police say they also found a notebook they had with a list of

england. the police say that evidence suggesting they could be connected to a series of other break-ins. doug: right now, federal investigators looking for answers after a small plane crashed at plymouth airport. witnesses say the pilot was the only person on-board this fixed-wing plane. he was practicing a training manuever called a touch and go , landing when something went wrong and he crashed upside down. he was med-flighted to brigham and women' s hospital. karen: hillary clinton gaining a carolina democratic primary, huge margin. overwhelming support from black voters was key as she gains momentum and delegates. both candidates now looking ahead to super tuesday. both will campaigning here tomorrow, with stops planned in boston. doug: school officials are warning students of a mumps outbreak at saint anselm college in manchester, new hampshire. the few confirmed cases all players on the men' team. the mumps vaccine is only 88% effective so it' s still possible to get sick. saint a' s students are off campus for spring break right now, which does help lower the risk factor.
