randy: all right. a nice day again yesterday. emily: it wasn't too bad. i was surprised by that wind. i could hear it inside the house. cindy: really loud. emily: what is that? cindy: the wind has been whipping overnight. it's now coming in from a much colder direction so we are not repeating yesterday today in terms of the temperature. emily: all right. cindy: not at all. we set records yesterday. worcester got to 57. that beat the record of 56 degrees from back in 1976. in boston, we tied the record all the way up to 64 degrees. we were not alone.

records across the northeast yesterday from portland to banger to augusta, maine. providence, rhode island, burlington, vermont, all setting record highs yesterday, of course, on leap day. now we have those winds kicking up. they were gusting 40-50 miles per hour last hour. they're down to 30 to near 40 miles per hour gusts right now. the winds are actually going to diminish pretty quickly over the next couple of hours but they've just been pulling in colder air. as you look off to the west 40 degrees in boston translates to about 20 degrees out in syracuse so that's the colder air mass that will be working on in as high pressure noses in. there will be sunshine today but another system nearby here bringing snow to chicago this morning. this is what's going to be racing toward us tonight. initially maybe just cold enough for a little bit of freezing rain here outside of 128 briefly during the overnight. a winter weather advisory until 4:00 a.m. i think it's a quick changeover to rain and it should be plain

we have dropped. there's our 40 in boston. still looking at mid 40's down on the cape. with those winds blowing so hard this morning it feels much colder. wind chills are run inning the teens in worcester. now. you want to dress warmly out the door this morning. sky s are in the process of clearing out. today. although we dip down this morning, temperatures recover mostly into the low 40's for highs during the afternoon. so we've got a good amount of sunshine this the forecast today. starting out this evening dry. this is 8:00 p.m. look what happens just after midnight. we start to get that system to work on in. from the pike on south ward i think it's plain old rain. notice the pink showing up through northern worcester county, southern new hampshire. that's because of that freezing rain that will quickly change over to plain old rain by 5:00 tomorrow morning sovment that means rain for tomorrow morning's commute. there will be some downpours as well. temperatures starting out in the 30's jump up. out the door tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m., it's going to be 50 degrees in boston. 40's in the worcester area so
4:47 am
i think we're looking at some downpours through about 9:00 or 10:00 tomorrow morning and then shortly after lunchtime the steadier rain is off shore and the skies actually brighten up in the afternoon. so in terms of the rainfall it's a quick half an inch to maybe locally up to about an inch of rainfall. and the winds so strong out of the south in the morning shift around to the west. very active weather day coming up on wednesday. that 52-degree high temperature, that happens in the morning with that strong southerly wind. look what happens by lunchtime. temperatures beginning to fall off so by day's end 40's and 50's are replaced by 30's so a afternoon. look at your thursday. bright sunshine but a high of only 30 degrees. still watching a storm that looks like it's mainly staying out in the ocean on friday but the track has suddenly shifted west just a touch. so we're not writing that system off completely just yet. we are still keeping a close eye but otherwise a little cold heading into the weekend. olessa: thank you. so far a quiet start on the

a live look at the zakim and the leverett connector looking good in both directions. we're watching one accident early this morning. 24 southbound side by the ford bridge just south of 93. an accident from an investigation in an overnight crash. on the northbound side there's construction by 128. as you travel northbound on the expressway, some roadwork clearing shortly by mass avenue. the pike looks good. your live construction zone 128 south over by route 2. so far we're expecting the trains and the buss to start the i'm olessa stepanova. that's a look at your traffic. randy: and the "eyeopener"'s on super tuesday this morning. the election map full of opportunities today. but the map for the candidates is a bit on the tricky side. all of them trying to secure enough delegates to force others out of the race. emily: when it comes to the g.o.p., our republican analyst patrick griffin says there are three things to watch as the votes come in tonight.
4:49 am
senator ted cruz is predicted to do well there but how well. second, look at georgia. griffin says donald trump will win; but with a big evangelical, socially conservative population, cruz could also pick up some ground. finally, watch massachusetts. will john kasich's time here pay off at the polls? all the candidates will be doing the math tonight. >> remember it's proportional. unlike the march 15 contest, there's an opportunity for other candidates to amass some delegates. emily: griffin says what would be surprising is if donald trump didn't essentially sweep the table. for the democrats, big turnout can make the difference. but, in the end, again it's all about the math for hillary clinton. >> if she wins massachusetts, it is very hard for bernie sanders to continue. he would then have to get 60% of every vote in every contest to even catch her in delegates. emily: another thing to keep in mind. this is not a winner-take-all night. the wins are proportional so
