impact on what happens next. good morning. i'm emily riemer. randy: and i'm randy price. we're live as the bay state gets ready to vote. erika tarantal and kelley tuthill are tracking the key day ahead for republicans and democrats. emily: we'll start with erika leading our coverage from west roxbury. good morning, erika. erika: good morning, emily and randy. here in west roxbury and across the commonwealth, the polls will be open by 7:00 a.m.. and voters have some real power in their hands this morning. more delegates are up for grabs today across the country than at any other time during this race. we'll have all the key factors to keep your eyes on today in just a minute, but first let's get to cindy with the forecast. cindy, i can tell you it's brisk today. cindy: a lot different than yesterday, erika. good morning to you. look how strong the winds are. we're still getting gusts over 30 miles per hour in spots. but last hour we were gusting over 40 to near 50 miles per hour so the trends with the winds is that they will be settling down this morning but

we're down in the 20's now out in worcester area on westward. boston has dropped to 38 degrees. when you factor in that wind you need to dress for wind chills in the teens and 20's in many areas out the door this morning. the skies though have been clearing out. so just patchy cloud cover. a good amount of sunshine today. we'll recover back up into the lower 40's this afternoon. not the 60's that some of us got into yesterday. it's a colder day with high pressure nosing in. watching this system here though off the west, this is going to bring in rain for tomorrow morning but it could start as a touch of freezing rain outside of 128 so we do have a winter weather advisory up tonight for that reason. much more on the timeline and this coming up. let's get you out to the roads right now and see how we're looking out there. good morning. olessa: good morning, everyone. a live look outside starting things off at the zakim and the leverett connector. so far looking good here both directions. let's go over to the maps now. we're watching one early morning accident happen during the overnight hours. the investigation is ongoing. 24 southbound by the horse bridge just south of 93. beyond that there's construction on the northbound side by 128 and then once again as you travel northbound on the

that should be gone in the next couple of minutes and also construction picking up on 128 south right over by route 2. so far we're expecting the trains and the buss to start the morning on schedule. emily, randy. emily: olessa, thank you. right now we are just hours away from election results that could change everything in this heated race for the white house. randy: the eyeopener's erika tarantal is leading our coverage from boston with what to watch today. erika? erika: good morning again. it's called super tuesday for a reason. for the democrats today will be a mad dash before the votes are counted with massachusetts squarely in play. former president bill clinton is expected in new bedford after rallying voters in worcester where he took aim at donald trump. bill clinton: i don't think we ever stopped being great. being whole. we stopped growing together. and that's what she wants to do. again. erika: meantime, the candidate

minneapolis and miami. hillary clinton spent most of monday in massachusetts holding events in springfield and boston. rival bernie sanders held a rally not far away in milton. in a one-on-one interview, he told newscenter 5 he believes his campaign is resonating with young people. sanders: what we are trying to do is bring millions of people into the political process. what i have said over and over again, no president can do it alone. we need millions of people to stand up. erika: as for talk that this could be his last stand, sanders was quick to point out that there are a lot more contests to go after super tuesday. for the g.o.p., the question is can anything stop donald trump's momentum? the eye's kelley tuthill swampscott where the state's republican governor will cast his vote today. kelley: yes, we expect him a little later this morning. as you know, charlie baker put chris christie, is out throwing his support to donald

today. but this morning, trump is headlining a new controversy. the secret service is looking into this violent showdown at a donald trump event in virginia. an agent body-slamming a "time magazine" photographer who was trying to take a photo of "black trump continued to dodge questions about not rejecting support from a former ku klux klan leader. something his rivals are taking aim at. rubio: he blamed it on a bad ear piece, that he couldn't hear the question. i don't care how bad the ear piece is, ku klux klan comes through pretty clearly and he refuses to criticize it. kelley: g.o.p. candidate ted cruz speaking at an event in his home state of texas. he claims if trump wins the republican nomination, then hillary clinton will be the next president. most polling places open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 tonight. and again we're expecting charlie baker to cast his vote here in a little while.

reportedly looking into a housing project in easton as they investigate state senator brian joyce. "the globe" reports the u.s. attorney's office subpoenaed all documents related to the $43 million project. joyce represented the developer. he's an attorney. this follows a raid on the lawmaker's canton law offices last month. his lawyer has said joyce has done nothing wrong. right now a hazmat scene is clear after a scare at children's hospital. firefighters say a hot plate was left on in a lab just before 9:00 last night. that caused a plastic container to melt and a chemical to spill onto the floor. the incident prompted a level 3 hazmat response, but the smoke was not toxic. it happened inside a research building away from patients. nobody was hurt. right now two people are dead after a late-night crash in kensington, new hampshire. it happened on north haverhill road. a third person was injured in the crash. no other details have been released. emily: a show of support and

police officer from new england. ashley guindon's body given an escort with full honors. her funeral is set for today just days after she was gunned down during her first shift. several officers from her hometown of merrimack, new hampshire, are heading south to be there today. guindon was shot and killed while responding to a domestic-violence call on saturday. she was born in west springfield, massachusetts, and will be laid to rest there. >> we're going to have a ceremony in st. thomas church. she'll be buried at st. thomas cemetery as well. we're looking at roughly speaking 5,000 officers coming up. emily: guindon will be buried next to her father, an iraq war veteran. dramatic new video released from a deadly officer-involved shooting in dorchester earlier this month. >> a suspect down. emily: one man was killed after exchanging gunfire with a boston

february 12. boston police were responding to reports of a shooting when they came face to face with the armed man. he was shot after reportedly ignoring several demands to drop his weapon. the suffolk county district attorney's office is investigating. randy: right now a rhode island clerk is hurt after he was shot multiple times during a robbery. that clerk still able to call for help. the eye's doug meehan is here with the search for the suspect. doug: this is the man police are looking for right now. they say he was last seen running from the store in cranston with a gun. the shooting happened during an attempted robbery at the bestway on park ave just after 8:00 last night. police say the clerk was shot several times, including in the head. he's listed in critical condition this morning but amazingly was still able to call 9-1-1 for help. police say they believe a woman left the store as the robbery was in progress. they're now looking for her or any other witnesses this morning. randy, emily?

cindy: not shorts today. olessa: have confusing. -- it is very confusing. cindy: you want to dress for march is what it is. emily: we're back to normal. cindy: welcome on in. this is not going to be a repeat of yesterday when we did set a record in worcester. we beat the record yesterday. 64 in boston tying a record. look at all of this warmth across new england. portland, banger, augusta maine all setting records here. you can see providence and burlington setting records as well. what a day yesterday. colder air is coming in. you can hear it coming in because the winds are transporting it in. winds have been gusting over the past few hours close to 50 miles per hour. we're gusting now 20-30 miles per hour. they are going to settle down pretty quickly here. we've had a front coming on in. you can see the colder airlined up to our north and west. that's working on in. it's coming in with mainly clear skies under high pressure. we're going to see a lot of sunshine today. that will change tomorrow. we have a fast-moving system.

this is going to bring us some rain by this time tomorrow. but maybe just cold enough overnight as it works on in. it may start out as freezing rain north and west of we do have a winter weather advisory in effect overnight for that reason. we've dropped into the 20 worcester on back to orange. 37 beverly. 38 boston. it is still 40 plymouth. 40's on the cape. but when you factor in those winds it's feeling like it's in the teens and 20's in a lot of spots. that's what you need to be dressed for out the door this morning. skies have been clearing out. the last of the clouds here hugging the south coast and the cape with our frontal boundary. we'll see lots of sunshine today. just a few clouds. temperatures recovering back into the low 40's by this afternoon. average high this time of year is in the lower 40's so certainly more seasonal today than what yesterday was all about. we're dry through about 8:00 this evening. and then as we get closer to midnight, look what happens. we get that system to start to come on in. you see the pink showing up here through worcester county into southern new hampshire, that's again where we could have some

very briefly around midnight. and then by about 5:00 tomorrow morning, we have warmed up. so we're talking about plain old rain, some embedded downpours to will impact the morning commute during the early part of the day tomorrow. temperatures starting out tonight in the 30's. look at this. what happens is you get the strong southerly wind pushing the temperatures up so out the door tomorrow morning, it's going to be close to 50 degrees. it's a very warm, wet and windy start here coming up on wednesday. u can see those downpours through about 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning but shortly after lunch, the rain is exiting and i think the sun makes an appearance in the afternoon tomorrow. so it's a wet start to the day. half an inch to maybe up to an inch of rainfall, looks the heaviest rain will be out in the western part of the state. look at the strong winds in the morning. could see gusts close to 50 miles per hour. then as the winds shift to the us out. that's why the rain shuts off clear. but the temperatures are going to be dropping. highs tomorrow early in the day right around 50.

the day tomorrow. so it's a changeable day coming up wednesday. colder air settling in thursday with mainly dry weather expected here heading into the weekend but i do want to caution you, we're still watching this ocean storm. still looks like it will pass mainly on out to sea but down along the south coast, the cape and the islands, there is a distinct possibility that you could get fringed by snow out of this system. we are watching closely. otherwise it's out of here and it's a dry start to the upcoming weekend. olessa: thank you, cindy. so far a quiet start on the roads. we are watching one problem spot south of town on 24 on the southbound side. overnight accident. the investigation is ongoing. it's got the right lane closed. just south of 93. once you get past that all the overnight construction is now gone. so far we're in good shape as you travel into boston. roadwork approaching the zakim bridge. that picks up early. no problem otz if pike or route 9 this morning. the construction we had on 128 south by route 2, that too has now cleared away. the trains and the buses are running on schedule.

that's look at your trafng. emily: continuing our super tuesday coverage. the election map is full of opportunities today, but the math for the remaining candidates is tricky. all of them trying to secure enough delegates to force others out of the race. when it comes to the g.o.p., our republican analyst pat griffin says there are three things to watch as the votes come in tonight. first, keep your eye on texas. senator ted cruz is predicted to do well there but how well. second, look at georgia. griffin says donald trump will win; but with a big evangelical, socially conservative population, cruz could also pick up some ground. finally, watch massachusetts. will john kasich's time here pay off at the polls? all the candidates will be doing the math tonight. pat griffin: remember it's proportional. up like the march 15 contest, there's an opportunity for other

delegates. emily: griffin says what would be surprising is if donald trump didn't essentially sweep the table. ahead in our next half hour, the number that could make a big difference for the democrats. randy: your economy headlines this tuesday. asian stocks were mostly higher overnight except for china where weak manufacturing kept shares low. right now u.s. stock futures are higher after a down day on monday. today investors will be looking for a new report on car sales. which have been up recently. it's the end of the line for late night service on the "t." the mbta board voted to nix the service starting march 18. supporters have called it a safe alternative for students and late-night workers. board members have said the service is not cost-effective. the first drug approved to target the female libido is facing new controversy this morning. a review of studies on the drug marketed as "addyl" claim the benefits are only marginal. addyl was rejected twice by the f.d.a. over concerns about its

emily: new this morning. students are getting ready to take the s.a.t. this month. and they will find some big changes this year. first, the reading portion is more advanced. the number of words is the same as the old test; however, the passages are longer. and the reading level appears more advanced. next, the math section now takes a more integrated approach. it combines concepts. for example, a geometry concept could be involved in an algebra question. you need to understand both to answer it. and lastly, students taking the new s.a.t. will see more data analysis across the board. expect to see graphs and charts in all sections of the test. >> they're not adding a science section, but they're putting a lot of those types of skills all over the test so students are really being asked to understand data, to read charts and graphs, to interpret and then to make decisions on questions based on that. emily: the college board does now offer free test prep to help teens get ready for these changes. it's available on the board's website. one last change.

officer from new england, shot and killed during her first shift. ashley guindon graduated from merrimack high school in new hampshire. guindon will be buried in west springfield next to her father. right now a fight is brewing over plans to arm campus police officers with semi-automatic rifles. randy: the eyeopener's sera congi is live at northeastern university with the growing frustration. sera: randy and emily, northeastern university believes the rifles will make the school safer in the event of a campus shooting, but city officials say that they never consulted boston police about this policy change. protesters held a so-called die-in before a hearing yesterday at city hall. northeastern, who did not send a representative to the hearing, argues that arming campus officers would make the school safer. boston police say the school failed to to have that discussion before implementing the policy. >> you have to be transparent. you have to be willing to have those discussions because that's

cindy: this is not happening again today. these are the record highs from yesterday. it will be colder today. welcome to march. it will actually feel like it today. make sure you dress for it. we are coming off though what will go down in the books as the second warmest winter on record for boston the meteorological winter being the month of december, january, and february. and there is our ranking. second warmest on record when you look at the average temperature. pretty incredible stuff. colder air now working in from the north and west as a bubble of high pressure so we'll have sunshine today. and the winds will settle down. it's just going to be colder than it was yesterday. fast-moving system though bringing some snow near chicago this morning. this is racing toward us. it's going to bring in some rain for us by tomorrow morning at this time. but it may be just cold enough at the onset overnight that outside of 128, there could be a touch of freezing rain initially before it changes over to rain. but there is a winter weather advisory up for that reason. you can see the temperatures now are running in the upper 20's in worcester. it is 38 degrees in boston right now. temperatures hold in the 30's

and then we only recover back into the low 40's this afternoon. we've got the lower 40's right now on the cape. your temperatures hold fairly steady throughout the day looking for high temperatures nowhere near as warm as they were yesterday. still pretty seasonal for this time of year. dry through 8:00 tonight. the clouds come in right around midnight. we get that burst of rain that could start as a little freezing rain out through worcester county. look at this. by about 4:00 or 5:00 tomorrow morning, plain rain for everyone. wind-swept downpours for the morning commute. i think the steady rain lasts up until about lunchtime. afternoon. a quick half an inch to inch of rain is a possibility. those winds so strong in the morning from the south gusting maybe close to 50. they shift to the west in the afternoon and the temperatures will fall. we start the day in the 50's. 30's by dark. and then look at that high with sunshine. only about 30 degrees on thursday. let's get you out to the roads right now, olessa. how are we looking out there. olessa: delays starting to pick up across the area. here's route 1 in saugus.

doug meehan, wcvb, newscenter 5. randy: doug, thank you. new overnight, two people are hurt after this single-car crash in randolph. it happened just after 1:30 this morning on route 24 south. the car veered off the highway and into the woods. state police say two people were taken to the hospital, but their injuries are unclear right now. emily: two people are dead and another is injured after a crash in kensington, new hampshire. it happened around 10:30 last night on north haverhill road. the two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. the third person was flown to the hospital. the road was shut down while state police investigated. randy: a hazmat scene is clear after a scare at children's hospital. firefighters say a hot plate was left on in a lab just before 9:00 last night. that caused a plastic container to melt and a chemical to spill onto the floor. the incident prompted a level 3 hazmat response, but the smoke was not toxic. it happened inside a research building away from patients. nobody was hurt. emily: malden police are searching for this man. he's accused of trying to rob a convenience store with a

village mart on florence street. you can see him struggling with the clerk. chasing the robber out of the randy: startling new numbers out of manchester, new hampshire. medics responded to sixty opioid overdoses in february, and in 14 of those cases, people died. that is a grim new record. in february of 2015, the city reported 5 deadly overdoses. >> every day of my life. i either get a tweet or somebody makes a comment or somebody sends me a still of the video to my twitter. emily: sportscaster erin andrews in tears talking about the toll this man's actions have taken since he secretly filmed her naked inside her hotel room in 2008. andrews is suing the nashville marriott's owner and manager, claiming they made it too easy for her stalker, michael barrett, to find her room.
