randy: good morning, it's friday, july 29. i'm randy price. erika: i'm erika tarantal. emily is off today. we're following breaking news on the eyeopener right now, a deadly crash in plainville, involving a tractor trailer. the new details into our newsroom overnight. randy: a suspect in court today accused of trying to kidnap and rape a woman in winthrop. disturbing charge against him. erika: a historic moment as hillary clinton accepts the democratic nomination for president. what comes next on the campaign trail for both sides. randy: 75 degrees here in needham. erika: a live look at the radar, parts of the state getting soaked with rain. we definitely need it. randy: good morning, cindy.

for areas along the south coast and on southeastern massachusetts. i think this is where the rain will be heaviest. we're not seeing much rain; the focus is on to the west, where you can see most the same right now outside southeastern massachusetts. it's generally shifting eastward, with the heaviest downpours around worcester right now. you can see that the rain is organizing with under offshore. low-pressure to the south is goto and that will give us heaviest rain along areas of the south coast. it's very humid outside, raining in boston, 77 degrees. the dew point is in the lower 70's, so it is a soupy day. we're going to try things out this afternoon, especially from boston north and west. you can see the rain filling in through the morning. midmorning we are still looking at the rain, and as we get into the afternoon, notice how we are

right now, the democrats are focused on the road out of philadelphia. hillary clinton and tim kaine have two rallies scheduled in pennsylvania today. emily: in what was the speech of her political life, clinton tried to address one campaign obstacle head-on. >> their wallabies years of public service, the service part has always come easier to me than the public part. i get it don't know what to make of me. erika: the former first lady, u.s. senator, and secretary of state was introduced by her daughter, who highlighted her mother's warmer side. clinton herself tried to do that as well, talking about how she started her career, even referencing time spent in new bedford campaigning for education for the disabled. but she also took direct aim at her rival.

randy: breaking overnight, one person is dead after a crash involving a car and a tractor trailer in plainville. police say the car ran into the back of the truck near the now-closed truck stop on washington street. a 15-year-old passenger in the car was also seriously hurt. she was taken to a rhode island hospital. plainville and state police are investigating. erika: more human remains found at a work site in everett. sky 5 over the national grid lot yesterday where the focus was on a pile of gravel. a skull was found at the same place earlier this month. investigators say the remains found yesterday are from the same woman. their only clue to who she is, a metal plate in her leg from a previous break. randy: right now, a lynn man is behind bars charged with trying to kidnap and rape a woman in winthrop. that's not the only disturbing accusation. the eyeopener's sera congi is live in east boston where that man faces a judge today. sera: that suspect is also

woman while his 3-year-old daughter watched. police say gerardo portillo pulled up next to the victim on revere street in winthrop monday night. he allegedly asked her to get in the car. the woman refused, and walked down an alley to get away from the car. that's when police say the man got out, and attacked her, while his daughter sat in the back seat. >> he had total disregard for what his daughter was witnessing and seeing and total disregard or respect for women in general. erika: the man took off when the woman screamed. she was able to give his license plate number to police. he'll face a judge here in court today as police try and figure out if there were any more victims. live in east boston, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5.

erika: the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is live at gillette stadium, where the temporary starter was in the spotlight. antoinette? antoinette: he sure was. that's expected to be the case again today as training camp enters day two. a lot of attention for jimmy garoppolo yesterday, but there was some major fan love for number 12. thousands showed up with signs in support of brady, and calls to fire commissioner roger goodel the preseason begins in less than two weeks, before brady serves his four-game regular season suspension. garoppolo says he's ready to step up. >> it is a great opportunity, take advantage of it, you don't get many opportunities. you have to make the best of it. antoinette: brady didn't acknowledge the fans yesterday. he walked in and out through a secluded gate, away from

and i don't see -- cindy: we all need a lot of rain. some of us will get a lot of rain, others will get just a little bit. you can see it coming out of new york city, lifting toward us. there is more than water to the south. but something is certainly better than nothing. you can see how dry it is. that orange color is severe drought covering a good portion of massachusetts, includin rainfall deficit is over 6.5 to eight inches. i think the places that will to the most rain today are down along the south coast, where we could see a little too much too fast. we could see some localized poure poor drainage flooding. as we get into the afternoon i think it will become a little

certainly a wet start. you can see some embedded downpours with yellows around the worcester area but everything is moving very slowly , and that is a good thing because we need things to last a while longer. you can see there's a lot of activity, but all of this is missing us and the low pressure is focused down to the mid-atlantic state and it will dry an area of low pressure to the south. we are on the soupy side, as humid out there as it has been all week with dew points the lower 70's. drier air to the north and then more tonight and into saturday. a light rain coming down for the moment we have a south-southwesterly wind.

this afternoon. temperatures may sneak over 80 degrees and elsewhere we hold in the 70's. most of us are seeing the rain through 6:00 and around 9:00 there is still some steady rain. flush time and into the afternoon, notice where the focus is, across coastal parts of massachusetts. then we localized damage flooding. a quarter of an inch or less north of the pike. but the skies will start to clear out and that is setting us up for a nice saturday. as we head toward tomorrow temperatures will be back in the 80's with a bit of the sea breeze tomorrow.

escape. kevin gearhart made a break for it yesterday while he was being transported to court from the valley street jail in manchester. he hid inside a garage and got away when the transport van left. he was still in an orange jumpsuit and shackles when he allegedly tried to steal a woman's truck at a gas station. >> i told him to get out of my truck and i backed up a little bit and he got out and told i'm on work release, don't be scared, i'm supposed to be out. erika: a passing manchester police officer spotted the orange and took gearhart back into custody. he'll be in court today where he'll face new charges. randy: a check of your economy now. asian markets were mixed overnight amid cautious trading ahead of a stimulus announcement from the bank of japan. right now, u.s. stock futures here are mostly lower. that follows another day of meager gains on wall street investors dealing with a new

erika: new trouble for the casino project in taunton. yesterday, a federal judge ruled the u.s. interior department did not have the authority to designate the land as a native american reservation. organizers broke ground in april, months after opponents filed a lawsuit to block the project. the city's mayor says voters overwhelmingly approved the plan, and he hopes the interior department will appeal. boston's city hal is pressuring departments to cut more off overtime costs in an effort to rein in expenses. the city's chief financial officer is urging departments additional 5% off overtime. he says that could save the city $11.6 million. the savings would help pay for core city programs like education and curbing homelessness. randy: the end of an era for the mbta. today is the last day for the man who has helped keep riders

returned and the dog likely would have died. the thieves haven't been caught. new york city's bronx zoo welcomes its first baby penguin. the zoo opened a penguin exhibit last year, but all of the birds had hatched in australia, until now. the zoo bred a penguin of their very own for the first time. the history making penguin hatched in may, and is now ready to join his friends in the exhibit. erika: a young author from boston is having m a book signing at the mattapan library yesterday. duane seaquist was arrested for drugged driving wednesday after police say he ran down a woman before flipping his car on brockton avenue. witnesses say seaquist then backed up, hit a pole, and took off. that woman was seriously injured. seaquist was also hurt. erika: murder charges are dismissed against the man accused in the 2001 murder of washington intern chandra levy. prosecutors said yesterday they can no longer prove their case a spokesman for the u.s. attorney said the decision was based on quote unforeseen developments over the past week. guandique was convicted in 2010 of killing and robbing levy, but a new trial was granted after an appeal. prosecutors will not pursue the retrial. randy: the mspca has received a two million dollar donation to help handle a massive animal cruelty case. hundreds of animals were found

local farmers will donate equipment over the next few days to help handle the animals. police say more than a dozen people are under investigation in the case. erika: there are now two cases of e. coli in massachusetts linked to an outbreak in new hampshire. the state says two new people became ill after eating ground beef in the granite state. the outbreak has been tied to beef processed at a farm there in north haverhill. randy: a change in leadership at margaret mckenna after an emergency meeting on alleged lavish spending. school leaders also claimed mckenna verbally abused employees. the search for a new president has begun. mckenna is vowing to fight the firing. erika: the sox losing streak continues with a disappointing end in los angeles. a scoreless game last night against the angels until mookie betts's sacrifice fly in the third. it's 1-0 all the way into the bottom of the ninth.

the angels score two runners to walk-off with the win. first pitch tonight is 10:05. randy: a ninth great white shark tagged off cape cod this year. this one off the coast of monomoy. here's a closer look. the 11-foot-long shark was tagged by dr. greg skomal, working with the atlantic white shark conservancy. erika: we turn to cindy now for some much-needed rai the next few hours. i think a lot of us are going to try out. most of the state is covered with at least some rain, the heaviest around worcester. up toward keene and peterborough. we go deeper into the midday hours and afternoon, and i think the focus is going to shift across parts of south coastal massachusetts, including the
