the state. cindy: the radar is active this morning, and everything is moving slowly from west to east. down around plaintiff and the south coast. you can see some yellows embedded, indicating heavier downpours. we will have those are on worcester and stretching north into the monadnock region. there are downpours this into the morning, the focus of the heaviest rain with those downpours is going to shift. in southeastern massachusetts, we have a flash flood, where some of those localized downpours are producing flooding across the air. we will watch that potential for you. this is associated with an area of low pressure. but wow is it humid. 77 degrees, the dew point in the

randy: breaking overnight, one person is dead after a crash involving a car and a tractor trailer in plainville. police say the car ran into the back of the truck near the now-closed truck stop on washington street. a 15-year-old passenger in the car was also seriously injured she was taken to a rhode island hospital for treatment. plainville and state police are investigating the crash. right now, a lynn man is behind bars charged with trying to winthrop. but that's not the only disturbing accusation. the eyeopener's sera congi is live in east boston where that man faces a judge today. sera: that suspect is also charged with child endangerment after police say he attacked the woman while his 3-year-old daughter watched. police say gerardo portillo pulled up next to the victim on

he allegedly asked her to get in the car. the woman refused, and walked down an alley to get away from the car. that's when police say the man got out, and attacked her, while his daughter sat in the back seat. >> he had total disregard for weather his daughter was seeing in total disregard for any respect for women in general. sera: the man took off when the woman screamed. she was able to give his license plate number to police. he'll face a judge here in court today as police try and figure out if there were any more victims. live in east boston, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: the mspca has received a $2 million donation to help handle a massive animal cruelty case. hundreds of animals were found dead or injured last week at a large farm in westport. local farmers will be donating their equipment over the next

boston area and the legislators, beacon hill is considering a bill that would require all cities, with the notable exception of boston, the opportunity to take control of their liquor licensing. if the legislature truly wants to reform liquor laws, many dating back to well before prohibition, why exclude boston? the governor explained that the city was already granted licenses last year. many licenses will be awarded, but who has the right to determine the amount and approval of liquor licenses? if maher walsh and city counselors had their way, additional permits would be granted the boston's diverse neighborhood rather than focusing on downtown. they are looking for the long-term fit. if successful, creation of these new, wealth building

what hillary clinton said last night, and everyone was looking over the biggest speech of her career. one of her favorite targets of course rival donald trump. >> donald trump says he wants to make america great again -- well, he can start by actually making things in america again. ed: clinton of course accusing trump of outsourcing his branded products overseas. this is true. trump's menswear line and products for his hotels are made in other countries like mexico and china. last night, clinton also made promises including one on education. saying, quote, "bernie sanders and i will work together to make college tuition-free for the middle class and debt-free for all." this one isn't quite true. her plan does include tuition-free education for students who go to an in-state public college or university for families earning less than

black lives matter. at the other, the police union feeling excluded. it's all over a black lives matter banner, hanging at somerville's city hall. two opposing rallies were held last night. the police union says it certainly opposes excessive force but the message the banner sends is demoralizing to officers. they fear retaliation, after the recent deaths of five officers in dallas. but black lives matter says it is a peaceful organization. the mayor hopes last night's demonstrations will spark a >> at the head of the police union, we have an opportunity to be forward but we are not going to turn back the clock on policing. erika: the mayor says the banner will stay along with one that honors the police officers lost in dallas. a change in leadership at suffolk university. board members ousted president margaret mckenna after an emergency meeting on alleged lavish spending. school leaders also claimed mckenna verbally abused employees.

have a good stopping rain, the wettest part of the day up until about lunchtime and then the rain will taper off into the evening. the area of heaviest rain will shift through the day. we aren't seeing much on the cape. this first batch of rain is moving pretty slowly from west to east, and it is generally light. there are some pockets of heavier rain, worcester county, northward, up into southwest new hair flash flood watches here across southeastern massachusetts. this is where we could see some localized poor drainage flooding as we get into the afternoon hours. there's another area of rain with lightning in the waters to the south. this area of low pressure will bring more heavy rain, but as a tracks south, it will impact southeastern massachusetts. that is why there is the concern for flooding.

-- two police officers are hurt after being shot in san diego. it's unclear what started the violence. the conditions of the officers are unknown but the suspect is reportedly in custody. randy: state and plainville police are investigating a deadly crash on route 1. police say a car ran into the back of a tractor trailer near the now-closed truck stop on washington street. a 15-year-old passenger in the car was also seriously hurt. she was taken to a rhode island murder charges are dismissed against the man accused in the 2001 murder of washington intern chandra levy. prosecutors said yesterday they can no longer prove their case against ingmar guandique. a spokesman for the u.s. attorney said the decision was based on quote unforeseen developments over the past week. guandique was convicted in 2010 of killing and robbing levy, but a new trial was granted after an appeal. prosecutors will not pursue the

erika: a choir group from iowa surprised a plane full of passengers when they serenaded the remains of a world war two veteran headed to texas. the video of their song is going viral. the group was on a plane heading from germany back to the u.s. the pilot announced that an army private was escorting the remains of the soldier back to houston. that's when the group put on randy: flames shooting out of a jetliner's engine forces the plane to make an emergency landing. the flight took off from dallas-ft worth wednesday night but turned back after the dramatic mechanical failure. american airlines says there was a problem with the engine compressor and that the plane landed safely. the passengers were rebooked on another flight. no one was hurt.
