we want to get to cindy with the rain coming down this morning. >> it's raining. that is a welcome this thing foa lot of us. steadier, light rain generally, kind of moving slowly from west to east across the state right now. you get into the darker greens and the yellows, and we have more moderate rain coming down. some embedded, heavier pockets of rain. around framingham towards boylston, and more to the north, southwest new hampshire, especially, and even parts of the north shore, and back to the low. we're seeing the pockets of where the rain is coming down the area with heaviest rain will shift down into southeastern massachusetts. that's where we have a flash flood watch. there could be some localized flooding here. we're watching an area of low pressure to the south getting better organized. and you can see that there is lightning in the water south of long island. this low is going to track too far south to bring that heavy rain everywhere but it will focus over southeastern massachusetts mid-day into the afternoon. so in boston, we're going to dry things out later this morning. clouds may break for sunshine

good portion of us. by lunchtime it is tapering off, but look at this through the afternoon. the heavy downpours focusing here across southeastern massachusetts, and rainfall rates over an inch an hour, and that could lead to poor drainage flooding. if you are traveling down that way today, light rain. >> you can see it, in summerville, and you can see the volume starting to build just a bit here, really not too busy yet. let's get to the maps. the rest of your ride, qet traffic, looks good. and your ride on the expressway, about 25, braintree into boston. that is the busiest spot. eastbound on the pike, 15 minutes. more volume towards austin and brighten and as you travel on 93, a bit of a delay out of methuen and we're in great shape into boston. trains and buses also on schedule. i'm olessa stepanova. that's a look at your traffic. >> i accept your nomination!

supporters. our democratic analyst this morning, how big of a bounce will hillary get? >> hillary clinton, i think, will drop down a bit but for the most part this will be a hard-fought even race all the way through november 8. what they are gearing up for is to settle in. when you hit labor day, it goes so fast. there is no looking back. >> so here we are, roughly 100 election. one of the buses that takes people out of here is just pulling out. so here we are, 100 days away from the election in november itself. today the work begins. the real general election work. last night i spent the night with the massachusetts delegation during the speech to check on what they are doing next and here it is. >> what's the next step. >> organize, organize, organize. >> our politics is local. and we work together to make things work. we're all democrats.

on washington street. a 15-year-old passenger in the car was also seriously injured. she was taken to a rhode island hospital for treatment. plainville and state police are investigating the crash. right now, a lynn man is behind bars charged with trying to kidnap and rape a woman in winthrop. and that's not the only disturbing accusation. the eye's sera congi in east boston now where that man will be facing a judge also face a charge of child endangerment, and that is because according to police while this attack got underway his three-year-old daughter was nearby in the back seat of his car. police say that gerardo portillo pulled up next to the victim on monday night. he asked her to get in the car. the woman refused and walked down an ally to get away from him. that is when police say the man got out and attacked her while

we have a flash flood watch. we may see downpours that could lead to localized poor drainage flooding so that is a concern this morning and this afternoon. what we're watching is an area of low pressure. it will track to the south as it heads out to sea to bring that rain threat to everyone but as we get towards mid-day and early afternoon you can see a lot of these thunderstorms in the waters to the south, and they are associated with that low, and they are going to lift massachusetts so that is the concern at lunchtime and early this afternoon. right now we have a steadier, lighter rain falling across a good portion of the area. we'll soak in it as long as we can. steady rain, and you can see the darker green. it gets heavier, metro west and worcester county, and as you head north, you run into the yellows. this indicating the heavier downpours, and everything moving slowly. we need this rain to stick around, a lot of clouds and light rain falling around

is, dewpoints in the 70s, and temperatures in the 70s this morning, and that's why they are going to stay around boston, and you can see the heaviest rain is pretty much over by lunchtime and the skies brighten later on. and it will do that north and west of town, where the temperatures may pop. and winds turn to the northeast, and we're going to stay in the 70s. steadier rain through 9:00, 10:00, and by lunchtime, look what happens, we are turning off to the rain here, north and west of town. and look at these heavier the islands where there could be some thunder and lightning as well. and when the rain comes down really hard, it could lead to that poor drainage flooding so a heads up. this is shifting off the shore by mid to late afternoon, and going to leave behind an inch of rain or so. rain is the heaviest elsewhere probably less than a quarter.

exception of boston. it's an opportunity to take control of their liquor licensing. if the governor and legislature want to reform the laws, many dating back to well before prohibition, why exclude boston? the governor's staff by way of explanation points out that the city was already granted licenses last year. that is, of course, a short-term perspective, the question is not over how many licenses will be awarded, but who has the right to determine the amount and approval of liquor licenses. and ultimately, overs if mayor walsh and the city councilor have their way additional permits would be granted to boston's diverse neighborhoods, rather than focusing on downtown. walsh and presley are looking for that long-term fix. and if successful, creation of these opportunities for the fortunate neighborhood owners, and jobs for local residents, goes hand in hand with the city's development of boston's main street districts. it's time for boston to have the autonomy, that other cities

philadelphia. and this morning, both campaigns will be hitting the campaign trail hard. >> and ed harding is outside with a closer look at what hillary clinton got right and what she got wrong last night. good morning. >> good morning to you. well, we are talking about laural, new jersey. suburban, philadelphia with the rain that cindy was talking about, just a few minutes ago, and it has extended back here. it's steady in new jersey with the rain right now. of course everyone is talking this morning about the speech at plenty of people are pouring over what was the biggest speech of her career, and one of her favorite targets, of course, was donald trump. >> donald trump says that he wants to make america great again. well, he could start by making things in america again. >> the secretary, of course, is accusing trump of outsourcing his branded products overseas. this is true.

this happened on washington street last night. the 15-year-old passenger in the car was also seriously injured. >> and right now a lynn man is due in court charged with trying to kidnap and rape a woman in winthrop. police say that he tried to get the victim into his car and chased her and attacked her. his three-year-old daughter was allegedly in the back seat at the time. and right now, a city split in two, on one end, demonstrators for black lives matter, at the other, the police union feeling excluded, it's all over a black lives matter banner hanging at somerville city hall. two rallies were held. the police union saying that it certainly opposes excessive force but they say the message the banner sends is demoralizing to the officers. they fear retaliation after the recent deaths of five officers in dallas. black lives matter says that it is a peaceful organization. the mayor hopes that the

wants to be part of the change. he's had an opportunity to come forward but we're not going to turn back the clock on policing. >> the mayor says the banner will stay, along with one that honors the police officers lost in dallas. >> boston city hall is pressuring the departments to cut more off the overtime cost in an effort to rein in expenses. the chief financial officer is urging the departments, like police and fire to shave an additional 5% off of overtime. 11.6 million and the savings would help to pay for core city programs like education and curbing homelessness. and people are struggling with addiction, getting around required drug tests. >> 5 investigates how they are outsmarting the system and flames burst out of a plane engine, the cause of this scare for passengers. >> and ahead in news to go, melania trump's website disappears.

with cindy, and we're watching the rain. >> the heavy stuff is in the ocean. >> it is, and you can see the arrow indicating where it's going. unfortunately. not up but out to sea, but some of that is going to clip the south coast cape and the islands. so that's the area that i am most concerned about as we get deeper into the morning. widespread lighter rain this morning for a lot of us, and it kind of tapers off this afternoon and this evening, so it is not going to rain all day, and it's steadier, and generally lighter rain that is falling out there this morning, and the area, so you want to slow 24 down while we have it and get as much out of it as we can. we need it. and darker green showing up in metro west out into worcester county, more moderate rain falling, and then you get to the north, we have yellows here across new hampshire, and north of manchester and newbury and up to the port smith area where the rain is coming down harder, but the focus is here along the south coast, and cape and the islands, and as we get towards lunchtime and afternoon, for some of these downpours that develop, could lead to flash

this happened in winthrop on revere street. police say portillo first tried to get the woman into his car but she refused. he follows alongside her so she ducks into an ally to escape. but police say he gets out and that's when she was assaulted. while the suspect's toddler was still in the vehicle. he faces charges of assault, attempted kidnapping, and as well as child endangerment. live in front of the east boston district courthouse, sera wcvb. >> and police are investigating a deadly crash on route 1. police say that a car ran into the back of a tractor trailer near the now closed truck stop on washington street. a 15-year-old passenger in the car was seriously hurt. she was taken to a rhode island hospital. >> a great white shark tagged off cape cod. this one off the coast, and here's a closer look. the 11-foot long shark was

of the green line but everything else is on schedule. and if you are at those platforms, umbrellas. >> you can see a few raindrops on the lens in boston. and where it is 77 degrees. a light rain, and very soupy with the dewpoint temperatures in the lower 70s. and a flash flood watch. but the cape, the islands and this is where the downpours could lead to localized poor drainage flooding towards late morning and the afternoon, and we're waiting for this area of low pressure to pass by to the intense downpours. there is lightning in the waters and the northern edge of this is going to try to clip the areas along the south coast and the cape and the islands. we have light rain falling. some of these greens out along the pike indicating more moderate rain falling, and heavier downpours. plan on this lighter rain, sticking with us through lunchtime, and the skies brighten. we're going to hold into the 70s in boston but where we brighten up sooner, north and

80 degrees. and you can see through 9:00, 9:30, steady rain across a good portion of the area and then there are the downpours by noon. south coast and the cape and the islands, this is where the rainfall rate may exceed an inch an hour and lead to that flooding. there could be thunder and lightning. and notice what happens by 2:00, 3:00, it's all shifting. we're drying it out this afternoon so by far the heaviest rain will be down here, the amounts taper off farther north. saturday the pick day of the weekend and less humid approaches on sunday, and that will bring in, it looks like, more clouds, and the chance for a few showers but it is not a wash this weekend by any stretch. we want to show you your temperatures on saturday. if you have got outdoor plans, well, there you go, you can see the showers on sunday morning, and as we go through the afternoon, there could be some thunderstorms, especially off to the west, but still a chance of thunderstorms as we go towards monday of next week as well but all those 90s, they are in the past, just a memory. >> you have got it.
