ed: an elderly woman attacked in her own home. maria: the search for the stranger who broke in. mike: tracking a few raindrops for part of your weekend. i'll let you know which day is the best to be outdoors. maria: uber under fire but claim -- a claim it makes about its service that may not be true. we begin with some breaking news at 11:00 a teenager has drowned after jumping into the charles river in cambridge. ed: state police are investigating. and juli mcdonald is live on the sce julie. juli: maria and ed, police and firefighters were called to this weeks foot bridge over the charles river. at 8:45 for a water rescue. witnesses told police that a 17-year-old black male jumped over the railing of this foot bridge into the charles river. they said he came to the surface with his arms flailing. then he went back under the water and didn't come up. divers from the cambridge fire department found him about 25

and rushed to beth israel but did not survive. back here at the scene police blocked off both ends of the foot bredge as they interviewed other teenagers and witnessed a few at a time about what they saw. some of those witnesses said that other people had been jumping into the water throughout the afternoon today. now, although this scene has cleared at this hour, tonight police are investigating exactly what happened in those moments before that 17-year-old went into the charles. and they have not released that his family members. live in cambridge, islander juli mcdonald, wcvb newscenter 5. maria: changes coming to bolvet summer camps after the death of a little boy. 7-year-old kyzr willis drowned this week at a south boston day camp. police say a counselor was teaching willis how to swim. earlier on tuesday. but he was by himself and when he went back to the beach later on.

>> we want to make sure when they drop their kids off to us that they return safe. maria: so let's talk about those new safety changes at all boston summer programs. they include an hourly head count, smaller child to staff ratios, life preservers to be worn during all swimming and inspectional services will visit the camps to make sure the new changes are being made. ed: the zika virus threat a homegrown battle. four cases in miami. the victims bitten by mosquitoes in their own neighborhood. it's carrying the virus are here in the united states. and it's raising a lot of questions about whether it's safe to travel to florida. newscenter 5's shaun chaiyabhat with what we are learning tonight. shaun: at this point there are no travel advisories. but you can tell -- we can tell you that right now, there is a lot of concern about zika in florida. in south florida, an urgent effort to kill mosquitoes. a ground attack and the fight against zika. and a warning for residents.

have the zika virus as a result of a mosquito bite. shaun: zika confirmed to a path from mosquitoes to people. a first in the u.s. sparking calls for residents to protect themselves. >> we think about this just like we do a hurricane. the way you do -- do well at this is you get ready. shaun: four people infected since last week. each transmission in a one square mile area just north of miami. previous u.s. infections came through sexual contact or travel outside the country. but the target. experts say the virus will spread. in fact, numbers may already be higher than we know. >> there just aren't enough tests available to be able to test everyone that's had an exposure. so we can't carefully define the burden of the disease. shaun: the florida patients include three men and one woman. each with minor symptoms not enough to be hospitalized. yet another reason why zika is hard to control.

urged to avoid travel to infected areas. the type of mosquito carrying zika has not yet traveled this far north. the white house now urging congress to approve more funding to stop it from spreading. shaun chaiyabhat, wcvb newscenter 5. maria: a south shore community stunned by a violent attack. an elderly woman was sexually assaulted after an intruder broke into her hingham home. our diane cho live in hingham where the suspect and the search for diane. diane: the victim was able to provide a lot of helpful information on this case. but tonight the suspect is still on the loose. and now police are asking residents to be vigilant. >> it's really hard to believe. you know, it makes you very uneasy. ed: rose -- diane: rose conroy is on edge after learning a woman in her 70's was sexually assaulted on thursday night in her own home. >> very disturbing.

way. terrifying. diane: hingham police are not releasing information on the neighborhood where it happened. only saying it was in north hingham to protect the victim's privacy. >> it's unusual for us to have somebody break into a home and sexually assault the person while they're in there. and that's -- that's why it's -- it's a priority for us. diane: police say the man broke in through a ground floor window and 911 call came in just after 9:00 p.m. when the suspect took off allowing the victim to call for help. >> just very shocked. diane: about 65 years old with gray thinning hair, brown eyes, and a thin build. >> and troublesome that somebody that needs to be off the street, this is something that people need to feel safe in their own homes. diane: and police tell us they are working on a composite sketch of the suspect but any information that can help detectives on this case you're asked to call the hingham police department. diane cho, wcvb newscenter 5. ed: new hampshire police are looking for a person who has been using a drone to look in other people's homes.

hollis have seen a remote controlled drone flying outside of their windows after dark. police say all of the sightings have taken place late at night or early in the morning. >> they thought that they were trying to invade their privacy looking into their windows with the drones. >> it could be a number of charges. it could be some type of harassment. trespassing. invasion of privacy. ed: police are asking the public to share information with warning drone users to respect other people's privacy. also this is surveillance video that police want you to see. they are searching for three people involved in a break-in at a methuen family restaurant. you can see the suspects pull up in the parking lot and methuen police say two men break in through the back door at 1:00 in the morning and steal the money. a woman waited outside to drive away. maria: a live look at the boston skyline on friday night. finally it's friday. we started the day with some rain but really a.j., we were

and it didn't happen. a.j.: not even a little mark in the drought. actually. we had such little rain. especially north of the pike. it was really farther south where you end up with an inch or maybe just slightly less than that between about half an inch or inch of rainfall. right now hanging on to plenty of 70's and the air is sultry outside as well. but the humidity levels will be dropping as we head through the overnight hours tonight. watch the fog out there as well. orange down to three quarters of a mile visibility. an quarter mile and likewise in plymouth and we'll have these spots occasionally where you do get some fog throughout the overnight tonight and first thing tomorrow morning. heavy shower working through the worcester area. and let's pinpoint into shrewsbury where that very heavy shower came right over route nine and actually caused some flooding issues there. as a matter of fact, we have one report. we had some flooding on route nine. five cars stranded and the road became impassable for a time.

incarceration for her husband doug. ed: no criminal charges resulting from the investigation into curt schilling's falede video game company. rhode island prosecutors spent four years looking into the $75 million deal that brought 38 studios to the ocean state. the company went bankrupt leaving taxpayers on the hook. the investigation says the deal was pushed through quickly. partly because schilling is a celebrity. but in the end, no laws were broken. to commitment 2016 tonight and just hours after the democratic convention closed, hillary clinton's campaign says it has been fresh off of her big night at the d.n.c. clinton's compane is announcing it is part of a broader breach of the democratic national committee. the russian government is being blamed for the attack. the f.b.i. is still investigating. the campaign says security experts have found no evidence that their internal systems have been compromised. maria: with the political conventions over, it's back to the campaign trail for these two presidential candidates. our ben simmoneau is tracking them tonight. ben. ben: yeah, maria.

battleground state of pennsylvania a day after accepting her party's nomination there in philadelphia. a rally in relatively conservative harrisburg, both clinton and donald trump making it abundantly clear today what we will hear time and again through the fall. ben: the party, the pomp, the pageantry is over. now it's just plain old politics. secretary clinton: donald trump talks about make america great again. he doesn't make a thing in america. except bkr ben: both presidential candidates made clear the day after the democratic convention ended, that it will be a long, mean, fall campaign. hillary clinton did not rush out of philadelphia highlighting the importance of pennsylvania. she went on the attack against donald trump, first at temple university and then where they made k'nex and lincoln logs and friday evening in harrisburg. >> the mean-spiritedness, the

bullying mr. trump: i watched last night. i watched hillary clinton. what a sad -- what a sad situation. ben: donald trump is in colorado, an overcrowd in another swing state where he said he would take off the gloves. mr. trump: remember this. trump is going to be no more mr. nice guy. ben: he sat down with george steph now louse for -- stephanopolous "this clen ton's claim that he is not stable enough for the job. mr. trump: i have a winning temperament. she has a bad terment. she's weak. week. i have a strong temperament. ben: the focus for these candidates is on pennsylvania and ohio. the rust belt voters. clinton heads to pittsburgh in the morning and then on to ohio. trump will be in ohio and then back in harrisburg, pennsylvania, where clinton was tonight on monday.

maria: let's update the breaking news that we've been following for you pretty active scene there. a teenager has drowned after jumping into the charles river on the cambridge side. dive teams recovering the body of a 17-year-old boy. investigators say young people were out there. they were jumping into the water off the weeks bridge. the victim struggling in the water before eventually going under. ed: lawyers for the plainville teenager accused of persuading

wanted a judge to suppress tamentse that she made to police. michelle carter was in court for that hearing. 18-year-old conrad roy killed himself by filling his truck with carbon monoxide in 2014. prosecutors say carter encouraged him to do it through text messages. carter's trial on involuntary manslaughter charges is set to begin. that will be in december. new charges tonight for the wittman man charged with attempted murder and drunk driving. after crashing into his girlfriend according to police 42-year-old and driving to endanger charges. he was arrested wednesday after police say he ran down the 35-year-old brockton woman before flipping his car on brockton avenue. the woman suffered serious injuries. maria: using uber is apparently not decreasing the number of drunk driving deaths out there. researchers looking at statistics from the 100 most populated areas in the country from 2009 through 2014. and here's what they found. that the rise of uber did not

drunk driving deaths. uber insists, though, that its service can help decrease drunk driving. using it actually is a selling point the company says that 80% of riders say uber has helped them avoid drinking and driving. ed: and then there is this. a leap of faith. from 25,000 feet. a california skydiver is planning to jump without a parachute or a wing suit. hoping to land in a net. this is all true. 42-year-old luke aikins will freefall for t landing in a net which is about one third the size of a football field. he is the third generation skydiver with over 18,000 jumps to his name. he's trained some of the world's most elite skydivers. and even did some of the stunts for the movie "ironman 3" and says he has been preparing for six months to get this jump right. >> right here, this puts me right in the middle. this is where i'm aiming. and i got a wife and a son. i plan on being here for a long time. being a pain in his neck.

tomorrow night. it will be on live tv. he says he is nervous but he says he was born to fly. maria: mope it goes well. happy surprise for a california boy whose prosthetic was stolen at the beach. this is 4-year-old liam brenes. he thought he would get a temporary replacement. after his prosthetic leg was stolen last week. but a man who makes prosthetics, he saw liam's story on tv and he said you know what? i'm going to do something about this. >> we had a lot of people onboard that really wanted to help get this. get this done. so me and a couple of other this morning around 4:00 a.m. to get it finished up. maria: that is a one of a kind ghostbusters leg. and the family is so happy. usually it takes a couple of weeks to make a new prosthetic. liam's dad says the only issue now is keeping up with liam. ed: all right. liam, who are you going to call? ghostbusters. that's who wure going to call. a.j., 72 degrees what's in

with sunshine to start out and i think a few raindrops thrown in there for good measure as well. let me tell you about the dew point because right now it's still a little bit sticky outside. some people might call it tacky. i heard that word in the studio yesterday. i kind of like it. watch it as it drops. that humidity level through tomorrow morning, in through tomorrow midday. it may creep up again toward the evening. but more comfortable air will be building in as we step on through the day tomorrow. right now 75 in boston. dew point is still high. 68. that means it's justy lower it goes the more comfortable it is. wind out of the north and northwest helping to dry things out. high temperatures today making it well into the 80's inland. and even touching 90. 79 in boston because of an onshore wind. and right now we're still hanging on to a few 70's. lots of 60's and watch out for the patchy fog during the morning as well. a couple of heavy showers working through the worcester area this afternoon. causing the flooding that we mentioned earlier. but we have high pressure

plenty of sunshine out the door. and i think we will hang on to the sun for most of the day. increasing clouds a bit toward the afternoon. as the humidity level drops a bit through the day as well. now, through tomorrow night, and on into sunday, that's the best chance i think that we'll have for some scattered showers. as a warm front starts sneaking northward on us. with that chance for showers, also the humidity starts to come back a little bit as well. so let's talk about the rain impacts. tomorrow morning you're dry. no pem jog and no problems weather-wise. toward the afternoon we'll increase the chance but just a low chance that we run into a few showers. it's more toward tomorrow night and sunday morning. that's the best chance for those showers coming through. most of those will be out into western sections of massachusetts as well. and into vermont if you're traveling that way. and a low chance heading on through sunday evening as well. lows tonight 60 to 65. a couple of spots may not make it into that range. maybe 66 or so and the patchy

we top out in the mid to upper 80's inland. at the coast, though, refreshing seabreezes making the beach very, very nice place to head tomorrow. with temperatures in the upper 70's there. here is your seven-day forecast. we'll talk about it. if you're traveling around tomorrow, let's start you off on the cape. 79 degrees or so. partly sunny skies. looks like a damp day coming up on sunday with some on and off scattered showers and may have a few thundershowers on into monday as well. how about up north? up toward the laknd start the weekend. it looks like we finish off with a couple of raindrops and a few scattered showers on into monday as well. talking about sunday, let's stick local now. and again, the showers around in the morning for the most part. but watch as they kind of dry up a little bit. as we head through the day. so i think it's the morning hours that stand the best chance to get wet. otherwise, a few scattered showers around monday and tuesday. just a slight risk for a few showers as a weak system comes
