emily: including big changes for anyone who uses those rideshare services. the eyeopener's juli mcdonald is live at the state house with the overnight details. juli: there are a slew of last minute deals headed for the governor's desk this morning. one of the biggest ones new regulations for the rideshare industry. both uber and lyft praised the plan overnight signaling that it is largely good news for those businesses. the bill mandates driver background checks. allows drivers to pick up passengers at both the boston and logan airport. and it imposes a 20 cent per ride fee on the companies with the proceeds split among the state, cities and towns and a fund for taxi and livery businesses. the plan does not require fingerprinting of drivers something some safety advocates had pushed for. juli mcdonald, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: other big moves overnight, a renewable energy bill is headed to the governor's desk.

in hydropower and wind power in the state in the coming years. lawmakers also rebuked governor baker overriding his veto of coverage for long-term treatment of lyme disease. but they did not push through a plan that would have extended the state's hotel tax to online services like air bnb. governor baker has 10 days to act on the bills sent to his desk. today, governor baker is expected to sign a bill that ensures equal pay for men and women in massachusetts. a signing ceremony is ne the law will ban discrimination on the basis of gender, and stops employers from asking about salary history. the legislation will take effect in july, 2018. randy: mbta officials are meeting today to discuss several measures, including train safety. they're expected to take up a contract that would deploy new technology that would automatically stop trains using sensors. also on the agenda, expansion around south station. for years now, the state has

gold-star mother, i don't know where the bottom is. emily: the khans called on other republican leaders to disavow trump. both senate leader mitch mcconnell and house speaker paul ryan released statements criticizing trump's proposed muslim ban but not addressing the controversy directly. randy: right now we're learning more about what led up to the death of a teenager, who drowned in the charles river, his mother sharing her grief for the first time. 18-year-old le graduated from a georgia high school in may, and was attending a summer program at harvard. it was just before 9:00 p.m. friday when he joined friends in cambridge to jump off the weeks bridge. his mother says it's like a ritual at the school but that her son was not an experienced swimmer. his body was pulled from the water several minutes later. his mother says even though he's

>> he was a kindhearted person, i carry person, a giving person. even a death, because he was an organ donor. he is still giving. randy: flowers and candles now line the bridge in a growing memorial. right now a boston police officer and another driver are recovering after this crash. it happened sunday morning on harrison ave and northampton street. police say the cruiser was hit by another car at the intersection, forcing the cruiser into a building. both drivers suffered minor was cited for failure to yield to the right of way. emily: new details this morning about a murder suicide involving a former rhode island police officer. investigators say 61-year-old franklin osgood killed his wife mary-jo sometime between friday night and saturday afternoon. police say the former providence officer called his adult children saturday night to tell them he'd done something bad to their mother.

say weather may have played a role in a deadly hot air balloon crash in texas. all 16 people on board were killed when the balloon crashed on saturday. investigators say it went down after it hit live power lines. aerial photos showed an area of scorched land underneath. now the ntsb needs to figure out why that happened, and if fog was a factor. they're now looking at electronic devices recovered at the scene for clues. >> images from people that might reveal that, we are in the process of analyzing it. randy: police say the victims will need to be identified through dental records which could take weeks or even months. emily: surprising statistics for massachusetts drivers, when it comes to ticketing. police in the bay state slapped drivers with nearly 3.2 million tickets between 2012 and 2015. of those tickets 40% were later thrown out.

causing a drop in the population, and they will talk about ways to help preserve the species. one of the new rules could be a change in a minimum size of lobsters caught which means more would have to be thrown back. lobster fishing brought in more than half $1 billion last year. extra firefighters have been 300 sent to battle a raging wildfire in california. they're joining about 5000 others fighting the fire in monterey county. the fire has charred about 40,000 acres since it broke out more than a week ago. officials don't expect the fire to be fully contained until the end of the month. they're still investigating what started the fire. randy: a family is grieving the loss of their 5-year-old, who died after being struck by lightning. the family was on vacation on a north carolina beach in carova when the little boy was hit he was then taken to a hospital where he died. officials have not identified the family.
