right now through about 8:00 this morning. thereafter they start to lower, but you can see a good dose of rain shifting eastbound and moving out of the springfield area the worcester now. the showers will continue to shift on eastward. lida rain already reaching some of these communities, but the yellow and the indicating some of those heavier downpours. it will get to around lawrence in the next 30 minutes or so. boston. you can see the yellow across a good portion of the area over towards leominster. you can even see some heavier rain around the worcester area and point southward toward spencer and all the way down to webster as well. it is coming with some energy that is racing in quickly. i expect these to be winding down by the late morning and afternoon. through 7:00 this morning, you

doing ok. that's a look at your traffic. >> you hope that the worst-case doesn't happen. that gets ripped out -- your heart. emily: this morning, we're hearing from the family of a 7-year-old boy who drowned while at a south boston day camp. that camp will reopen today, as the family prepares to honor the little boy. randy: the eyeopener's juli mcdonald is in south boston with the plans in place. juli: it will be a somber day here as campers return for the first time since this tragedy. kyzr willis drowned at carson beach last week after slipping away unnoticed. his death forcing the city to enact stronger safety protocols at their day programs, starting today, putting in 34 new security cameras. his uncle telling us this has been a nightmare. tonight, with broken hearts, they will gather to remember the little boy at a vigil outside the curley community center kyzr loved so much.

come and show support for them and for the family. they need to know they have that support out there. juli: the vigil is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. this evening. his funeral is set for thursday. juli mcdonald, wcvb, news center five. randy: a worcester dentist will go before a judge today, charged with indecent assault. dr. nakhil patel is accused of inappropriately touching the alleged victim several times at this lincoln street office. the 35-year-old says it happened during an appointment yesterday morning. she says she left the chair when she realized what happened and went right to police. emily: new video from a wild police chase through the south coast. it was a witness who helped police put the brakes on this pursuit. right now, the suspect, 50-year-old randall harrison, is under arrest. police say it all started with that man waving a hatchet then

highways and through several towns. witnesses describing a chaotic scene, which finally ended in downtown new bedford. police in front, and one driver behind. caught in the middle, but determined to help. >> i just stopped in the road and i see the guy tried backing up and i just held my breaks. i knew i wasn't going anywhere and he just slammed into me. >> you help? >> i guess. emily: harrison was caught just a few blocks from where he lives. family friends say he has a long histor m he's now being evaluated at a local hospital. randy: new this morning, organizers of south boston's st. patrick's day parade are at odds with the city leadership. "the herald" reporting a new complaint claims mayor walsh strong-armed them into inviting an lgbt group to march in the parade that had long been a controversy. the south boston veterans council claims the mayor threatened to withhold necessary permits. it's just part of a lawsuit filed back in march, accusing the mayor and boston police commissioner bill evans of

the mayor is denying the allegations. also new for this tuesday morning, boston city council is now considering a proposal to ban plastic shopping bags. the council says its taking -- it is taking environmental concerns into consideration. they've asked for a 90-day study of how the city can reduce the use of bags. the study group may recommend new laws. other municipalities including brookline and the city of cambridge have recently passed similar laws. [booing] emily: a military mom booed as she tries to ask about the controversy still swirling around the donald trump campaign. a new cnn poll now gives hillary clinton a nine point lead over her gop rival. trying to distance himself from his dispute with a gold star family, donald trump is now putting a new spin on the contest.

of this country. >> tim kaine took on donald trump's controversial muslim ban. >> it could be mormons one week and then the baptist after that. it is just absolutely incredible. emily: this morning, "the new york times" is reporting trump received deferments from the five war -- four for college, the fit for bone spurs in his heel. randy: this morning, massachusetts is one step closer to equal pay for equal work. governor baker signed a bill yesterday making it mandatory that employers pay men and women equally. backers of the bill say women currently earn about 82% of what their male counterparts make. baker says all lawmakers deserve credit for working together on this bill. >> we seem to have the ability here in the commonwealth, and i get the speaker and the senate president and their colleagues

common ground and move the commonwealth forward on important issues like this one. randy: the bill includes a first-in-the-nation ban on employers asking job applicants to provide a salary history. it takes effect in 2018. right now, tight water restrictions are in place in concord after someone tampered with one of the town's water tanks. it all started when inspectors found a lock had been broken off one of the storage tanks. they isolated that system as a precaution. as a result, residents cannot water lawns or fill up swimming pools. concord is also asking people to to take faster showers and wash only full loads of laundry. >> we do not think anything sinister happened. the lock was vandalized. no signs of any intrusion into the chamber and we put chemicals to treat the water. randy: the town manager says it'll take a day or two to test

is recovering after police say he was shot in the hand in worcester. this happened monday afternoon near castle park. after the shooting, officers found four boys hiding in that area. all four were arrested for trespassing. an 18-year-old is expected in court today, but it's unclear if he's facing charges in the shooting. a swampscott man will be back in court tomorrow for a dangerousness hearing. timothy brosnan appeared in court on arson charges yesterday, accused of burning down his own home. police say brosnan told them he torched the nearly million-dollar home over the moving in the next day. the couple is divorcing. nobody was seriously hurt in the fire. brosnan's attorney says his client has no criminal record. the zika virus causing a domestic travel warning. randy: the high risk location just outside a popular tourist destination. mcdonald's shaking up its ingredients. how the chain is changing its menu to meet growing health concerns. emily: cleaning the bathroom, one of the many chores that can slow down your day.

this is what's coming. this is not going to be with us the entire day. we have good downpours around the worcester area and back to the western half of the state . the greatest chances for rain are really the next few hours to about 9:00 this morning. by late morning, they're starting to lower and we try things out by lunchtime. we have had over half an inch out in pittsfield. flooding. the heaviest rain to shifting eastbound now. you get to these oranges and rainfall rates over half an inch per hour. there are some heavier downpours within this, but it is all shifting eastward and we block a lot of lightning with it. the leading edge of that probably makes it in about the

in other news, i disabled car. also watching an accident 93 southbound with this crash right over by 128 where one line is closed. it is stop and go down to the leverett connector and trains and buses are ok. emily: a travel warning is in place over the u.s. over the zika virus. and this morning, there's a new avoid the wynwood neighborhood , just north of miami after 14 , cases of the mosquito-borne virus were found there. at least four are confirmed to have been transmitted directly by mosquitoes. the cdc telling all men and women who have visited the area to put off pregnancy for at least two months. >> in men, it can be carried in the seamen for up to two or three months.

did not have any symptoms to begin with. emily: in february, president obama was denied $1.9 billion in funding to combat zika. health experts believe it could be too late to slow the spread by the time congress returns after labor day. both house and senate leaders say they're still $384 million -- there is still $384 million in zika funding. changes to mcdonald's menu. the burger giant says it will replace corn syrup in its hamburger buns with sugar this month. the company says iha its chicken and artificial preservatives from its nuggets and several breakfast items. mcdonald's hopes the changes will bring in increasingly health-conscious consumers. randy: your economy headlines for this tuesday morning -- a public meeting will be held today on general electric's big move to boston. the company will present its first presentation to the boston civic design commission. they're going to be showing this

emily: and i'm emily riemer with cindy and olessa. what is the timing of all this? cindy: parts of metrowest in the rain right now. in the next half hour or so, this is impacting boston. it is impacting your morning commute in some areas. you can see some of the rain showing up on radar. it is impacting us through mid-to-late morning and out of here by noontime. rain chances are highest. they will taper gradually through the morning. this is beneficial rain coming with many of us picking up a quarter to half an inch of rain. it is heavier to the western part of the state where there is poor drainage flooding. the leading edge of this is approaching 495 just west of you in framingham. you can see around 7:00 into boston and then making it to quincy a little bit later closer

new this morning -- new problems for the mbta and it all comes down to money. randy: the eyeopener's sera congi is in newton with how some are getting a free ride. sera: randy and emily, we are talking about some fare gates left open because machines were too full of money to operate. the mbta's union says that was about a dozen fare collection machines were not operable last week. they say the problem started after the t changed the routes of the workers who collect the cash. mbta officials dispute that reason, saying that full fare machines aren't uncommon and this wasn't due to changes in procedures. all of this comes as the t tackles another financial hurdle. the agency is now facing a $110 million deficit thanks to the low sales tax revenue. projected collections are down

on the table. sera congi, newscenter 5. >> oh my god. emily: terrifying moments for a driver in roxbury caught in the middle of a shooting. right now, a 21-year-old man is under arrest after this scene on dale street saturday. the driver was using the gps app waze, when it directed him right into the middle of the gunfire. police say devaughn dardy is facing several charges in the shooting. it's not believed that anybody was hurt. norwood boy scout troop's equipment trailer that was initially reported stolen. last week, a scoutmaster for troop 42 discovered this trailer was missing. norwood police now say it turns out u-haul officials had apparently repossessed it. the scouts had, at some point, been gifted a missing u-haul trailer. they are now in talks with the moving company to negotiate buying it back. randy: a home invasion in new
