you can get the windows open this morning, definitely a change from the past couple mornings. this is the difference between now and yesterday, 5-10 degrees cooler in those spots, but it is going to be a beautiful day, 63 in boston with a light northwesterly wind. the air is comfortable but you can see some patchy fog showing beverly. 54 in bedford and into worcester county, lots of 50's showing up. mostly in the low 60's and once that fog burns off the skies are clear and then it is sunshine wall-to-wall today so it will be

as the wind turns on sure. that 70's on the cape, 84 in lawrence, about the same in taunton. let's get you onto the roads and see how we are looking t. olessa: here's a check of the pike by allston brighton, eastbound had to the top of the screen. a little bit of overnight construction still out t northbound. some construction is clearing northbound on the expressway and then south of town is looking great. the pike eastbound looks good and so far transit buses are starting on schedule. emily: right now, an armed robber is on the loose accused of targeting two stores in billerica. randy: the crimes committed within the same half hour. the eyeopener's sera congi is outside the store that was first on his list.

surveillance video here at 129 liquors and a second store down the street to try and identify the suspect. the first call came in just before 9:00 p.m. for 129 liquors on salem road. police say a man with a knife was trying to rob the store. it's unclear if he got away with any cash. as officers were investigating that crime they got another call about a similar robbery two miles away at jim's quick stop. a clerk there was so upset, she was taken to the hospital. but nobody is believed to have been hurt. police not releasing much information. we're expected to learn more about the crimes later today. live in billerica, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: balloons released into the sky in boston to honor the life of a little boy who drowned last week at carson beach. dozens gathered at a vigil for kyzr willis, many of them strangers, and all want answers.

from his summer camp at the curley community center. the vigil last night a chance to thank those who helped look for the 7-year-old. the boy's death sparked changes to all of the city's summer camps. but willis' family says those came too late. the family has said they want to see consequences for willis' death. new this morning, state senate leader ken donnelly is donnelly had a tumor removed yesterday according to a post on his facebook page. the arlington democrat's family is thanking everyone for their love and support. donnelly's doctors say they're pleased with how the surgery went. he was admitted to the hospital over the weekend after experiencing medical difficulties as the legislation session ended. randy: commitment 2016, new twists on the campaign trail this morning as unrest in the republican party appears to

overnight developments. antoinette: this morning a top republican donor and fundraiser is jumping ship endorsing hillary clinton. hewlett-packard chief meg whitman says she can't support a candidate who, in her words, "has exploited anger, grievance, xenophobia, and racial division." this comes hrs house speaker paul ryan in his reelection primary next week. and calling new hampshire kelly ayotte who's been critical of trump a, quote, "weak senator." last night in somerville, democrat elizabeth warren went after trump again after he accepted a retired veteran's purple heart, saying he always wanted one and this was much easier. >> just when you think that donald trump can't pull another one, can't demonstrate more

is or the president of the united states, he manages to talk even himself. antoinette: last night, trump's running mate mike pence fired back at president obama's assertion that the gop nominee isn't qualified to be president insisting it's the current president who's woefully unprepared to serve. all of the candidates will be back on the campaign trail today. randy: the obama administration is defending its decision, to send $400 million to iran. "the wall street journal" reports the money was iran earlier this year around the same time that four hostages were released the administration says it was a settlement for a 1979 arms deal before iran's regime change. it denies the payment was ransom to release the hostages. several republican lawmakers are criticizing the move. emily: a warning for anyone who takes the commuter rail. riders can expect disruptions on that line this spring. that's when the state will launch a $459 million project to

compliance with federal safety standards. right now the providence-stoughton line is the only one with positive train control a mechanism that helps trains avoid collisions. installing that technology on all lines will result in some closures on weekends. the mbta is going green at dozens of garages. the agency is installing solar arrays at 37 garages and parking lots around the state. the $51 million project is expected to generate 48 million the t is the state's largest electricity consumer using as much as 42,000 households. randy: a worcester dentist is free on bail this morning after pleading not guilty to charges he touched a patient inappropriately during an exam. in court yesterday, dr. nikhil patel's attorney said his client categorically denies the charges. but according to the police report a longtime patient accused patel of fondling her

right now a salem man is behind bars accused of strangling his wife of 27 years. prosecutors say carmela saunders had two restraining orders against her husband. douglas steeves, jr. turned himself in to police yesterday morning. he allegedly confessed to killing his wife inside her salem apartment after he got a phone call from her new boyfriend. but steeves' lawyer says there are a lot of questions here. >> whether or not he could control himself, whether or not there were pre-existing conditions, whether or not there was provocation. randy: saunders had filed for divorce twice since last september citing abuse. a restraining order was still in effect at the time of her murder. emily: right now these two men are behind bars after a traffic stop in salem ends with a disturbing discovery. police pulled kelvin mendoza and emanuel rodriguez shonyo over after they allegedly drove the

that's when one of them allegedly referenced recent police shootings across the country police took that as a threat. officers say they found a handgun and a rifle and ammunition. prosecutors say the men were also using a phone app to monitor police scanners. new this morning, a former whitman police officer is facing charges accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from veterans. prosecutors say glenn pearson managed federal military benefits for 8 vets. bank accounts. but they say he lied to the irs and diverted nearly $86,000 to himself in the form of cash withdrawals. the herald reports pearson was fired from the police force after allegations of sexual harassment and making false reports. randy: right now a lowell man is behind bars charged with using a cell phone to upskirt a customer at a tewksbury garage. police were called to the main street garage after a female customer accused an employee of

to fight the zika virus as health officials launch a new attack on mosquitoes in florida. aerial spraying starts today in miami. ground spraying, fighting standing water and handing out bug spray apparently not enough there. the cdc says mosquito counts are not coming down. 15 people have now contracted the virus in miami's winwood neighborhood. >> this is sometimes referred to as the cockroach of mosquitoes. can survive anywhere, it can brees in water. it is an indoor mosquito. emily: massachusetts congressmen stephen lynch and mike capuano both tell newscenter 5 congress must go back into session to come up with at least a billion dollars to fund a zika vaccine. president obama had asked for the emergency funding before lawmakers went into recess. the zika virus has many people thinking more carefully about protecting themselves from mosquito bites. "consumer reports" put 16 bug sprays to the test to see which ones are most effective.

caught on camera, quite the up-close look for whale watchers on a cruise in the waters off quebec city. the group of tourists were shocked when a fin whale swam right up to their boat and passed under it. what makes this even more of a rarity? the fin whale is an endangered species. emily: that's incredible. can you imagine seeing that up close? cindy: youhe beating out of control. olessa: quite a story. randy: they got their money's worth for sure. nyu is now ignoring a certain section of the common application. the factor they will not consider when choosing between applicants. and a paraglider makes a desperate decision when his lines get tangled. the catch 22 that could have killed him, ahead. a beautiful start the day.

drying out enough that the dew point is cooling off. i also want to point out that the sun is not officially up -- look what happens in a couple weeks. it gets later and later every day. you can see where we are going through the north shore and there are a lot of spots of visibility, so just ahead it may impact you this worcester, 58 . high-pressure will give us a nice day and once the patchy fog burns off we are looking at temperatures coming up close to 80 and then low 80's inland with the sea breeze keeping us cooler through boston and beverly, 82 in burlington with low to mid

grown at a facility in lowell. and though it's boston's first dispensary it's far from the state's first. there are six other medical marijuana dispensaries in massachusetts. the first opened in salem last june, after voters approved the law in 2012. that was followed by facilities in ayer, brockton, brookline, northampton, and lowell. and since that first opening, more than 21,000 patients have purchased more than 4,000 pounds of medical marijuana. boston police have worked closely with patriot care for this dispensary to ease concerns about drug-related crime that could be spurred by the opening. today's ceremony starts at 10:00 a.m. live in boston, juli mcdonald, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: right now the man once dubbed the unh rapist is back in state prison. prison officials say gary fecteau violated the rules while out on work release. he was sent back to prison in

stalking and sexually assaulting three female unh students in the late 1980's. a national night out in boston for police and the community. and recent violence brings a new significance to this summer's gathering. last night, some 200 boston residents gathered in dorchester for music, games and food and a meeting with officers. many in the community tell us it helps shape a positive view of police for them, and their children. especially after recent controversial killings of and minnesota and the killings of officers in dallas and baton rouge. city leaders say the night out makes a difference. >> your first interaction with the police officer particularly today makes a big difference, and we have to do that every single day. emily: more than 16,000 communities across the country celebrated national night out. randy: new hampshire is reducing the number of moose hunting

randy: the eyeopener team ready with your news to go in billerica, boston and antoinette is following a defection on the road to the white house. emily: but first cindy has your forecast. it feels a lot nicer for us today. cindy: there this morning but that will burn up although we are monitoring tropical storm earl, very close to landfall near central america. there are tropical storm warnings in honduras and belize. it will probably strengthen more before it makes a landfall. the wind is 65 miles per hour right now, and it is moving westward in strengthening, spanning the coast of honduras.

during the overnight hours tonight and then continue to move westward begin over mexico. it will likely lead to some flooding. in boston things are quiet if you can see a little bit of fog and you can see it through parts of the north shore, metrowest and it's a worcester county. then visibility drops -- that's the case in the worcester area. it should burn off quickly, and the temperatures are cool, 54 nashua did that, 51 in taunton and lower 60's on the cake. nice weather for the next couple days with low humidity today and once the fog burns off we will jump up, low 80's away from the

emily: a worcester dentist is out on bail after pleading not guilty to charges he inappropriately touched a patient during an exam. in court yesterday, dr. nikhil patel's attorney said his client denies the charges. a longtime patient accused patel of fondling her monday morning, while she was in his dentist chair. randy: police in plaistow, new hampshire are investigating what appears to be an attempted abduction. a mother claims a strange man tried to lure her 11-year-old she returned home from summer camp. the girl claims the man appeared to be taking her picture and then signaled for her to come over, that's when the child ran away. police say they are looking into the incident. an illegal campfire is blamed for sparking this massive wildfire in california. the soberanes fire destroyed at least 57 homes, and killed one person, as it scorched more than 43,000 acres. police are now looking for whoever lit that campfire back

they could face criminal and civil penalties. emily: investigators are searching for answers after the bodies of two teens are found behind a grocery store in roswell, georgia, a delivery driver found the bodies monday morning. police say both victims suffered from head trauma. officials have not released the victim's names but say they are from the area. some dramatic video of a fight with police in oklahoma. you can see a man attacks an officer, and even tries to grab his gun. that's when another officer runs into help, before a third man, who was just passing buy, runs in and body slam the suspect. this all started as a call about a man, trying to buy gift cards with a stolen credit card. pope francis wants the catholic church to consider allowing women to become deacons. the pontiff set up a vatican panel, six men, six women to , study the issue. currently the role of deacon is restricted to men. they can preach and preside at weddings but cannot celebrate mass, as priests do.
