one woman is dead five other people wounded after a man with a knife attacked a group of people near the british museum. a 19-year-old suspect is in custody. police say they are investigating both his mental health and possible ties to terrorism. security is beefed around london today as a precaution. right now, a woman is recovering after this crash in woburn. antoinette: that's a metal pole piercing her windshield. and this morning her family tells us she doesn't remember anything. the driver's the close call. sera: pretty amazing. it happened here on locust street yesterday afternoon, and you can see the damage left over to the metal fence. the woman was grazed by the pole but it could have been much worse. take another look, that 12-foot metal rod launched right through the windshield. luz sawyer says she blacked out before striking a parked car, a street-light pole, and then a fence, the pole just inches from

antoinette: this morning, new hampshire senator kelly ayotte says she's still supporting donald trump despite his recent criticism of her. trump called ayotte a weak senator after she denounced his comments about a gold star family who spoke at the dnc. a spokeswoman said ayotte is focused on her reelection campaign but still supports her party's nominee. democrats including governor maggie hassan who's challenging ayotte for her seat have called on the senator to take a stronger stand against trump. leaders are speaking out this morning after a report critical of how racially charged cases were handled at boston latin school. investigators examined 115 complaints of racial inequity. 17 were found to have merit. but for city leaders and those impacted by issues at the school any number is too high. rosalind wornum says the teacher who called her daughter a racial slur is still on the job. >> and said, hey, what's up my

stunned. she was shocked. a lot of the students were shocked. >> no apology, no written letter, nothing. emily: boston latin's headmaster and assistant headmaster resigned in june. a federal civil rights investigation is also underway at the school. antoinette: an update this morning on the investigation into the death of a baby in lynn. the state says the four-month-old who was found unresponsive at a shelter last september died of natural causes. the globe reports the cases had been under investigation as because of the child's previous involvement with dcf. emily: right now a worcester man is preparing to face a judge accused of assaulting a police officer. jones appiah allegedly tried to drive through a construction zone on country club boulevard. when police approached him they say he yelled obscenities and tried to run off. even after being pepper sprayed, police say appiah charged an officer and tried to gouge his eye out. he'll face a number of charges when he's arraigned later this

accused of making deadly threats against police in maine. portland's police chief says the threats started popping up on social media yesterday morning. they traced them to 28-year-old espen brungodt, who was vacationing with his family. police say brungodt sent tweets and emails about using assault weapons to kill as many officers as possible. there was also a threat of explosives at a local parking garage. >> i don't know, it is just scary. any better. now it is getting too close to home. emily: police say brungodt flew into the u.s. from norway to boston a few days ago. he was not armed when he was arrested at a portland hotel and police found no explosives. and to mesko the body of a massachusetts fisherman has been recovered from a new hampshire pond. rescue crews say the 67-year-old malden man fell out of a canoe on gilman pond. crews were able to save the man's friend after he went out to help the victim.

the driver tells newscenter 5 the pair ran out into branch street last night. one victim was flown to a boston hospital. no charges have been filed. emily: and donald trump is headed back to new england today. he'll hold a rally this afternoon in portland, maine. hillary clinton is in nevada today. right now, boston police are preparing for a public hearing on body cameras for officers. the new policy, not without controversy. antoinette: the eye's todd kazakiewich is live outside police headquarters with the plans in place today. todd: a city council committee will hold a hearing tonight to get feedback from the community on a plan expected to launch later this month. that pilot program would equip 100 boston police officers with body cameras for a six-month test. it's a win for civil rights advocates who have pushed for the policy for months especially in the wake of deadly police shootings around the country. but boston's police commissioner has expressed concern about the cameras.

emily: for the first time, an enlisted female sailor has earned her submarine qualifications. chief petty officer dominique saavedra will be deployed on a nuclear-powered guided missile submarine. the navy ended its ban on women serving on subs in 2010. and the first enlisted female soldiers started training about a year ago. right now, about 115 female officers are training to become submariners. so far, 43 have achieved the status. antoinette: new york's empire state building put on a show in honor of a music legend. singer tony bennett celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday, last night, the empire state building was lit in the colors of the italian and american flags. the building also hosted a party for bennett and his latest singing partner lady gaga. they flipped the switch for the light show. emily: a rough night on the road for the red sox. the mariners beat the sox 3-1.
