in court today. concord police responding to a call on penacook street found an infant unconscious and not breathing in a camper where the couple lived. the baby was pronounced dead at an area hospital. police also found multiple packages of methamphetamine, which appeared to be for sale. a toddler also living in the camper was found to be in good health. no foul play is suspected in the baby's death. antoinette: in just hours, a man who told wild tales during whitey bulger's murder trial will ask for his freedom. robert fitzpatrick has already pleaded guilty to perjury and obstruction of justice. he admitted he lied during his testimony at whitey bulger's murder and racketeering trial in 2013 in part to boost sales of a book he co-authored. p sides are asking for two years of probation. sentencing is at 2:00 this afternoon. emily: right now, a construction worker is battling painful injuries after a complicated rescue in newton. it took first responders two hours to free the man whose foot got caught in a cement mixer at an apartment complex under construction on lagrange street. this picture shows the sides cut away in the middle, the heavy metal auger that sucked the worker's foot in when he slipped.

construction worker was in unbelievable pain given oxygen and an iv as firefighters carefully cut the mixer apart by hand. the worker was conscious and talking when he was taken to the hospital. right now, investigators in connecticut are trying to figure out why this home was reduced to rubble. seven people were inside that home in vernon when it suddenly exploded. four of those victims are under the age of 16. amazingly, nobody was killed. officials are now looking into a possible gas leak as the cause. neighbors who witnesses the blast left shocked, describing a devastating scene. one of the victims has been released from the hospital. the others are suffering from serious injuries, but are expected to survive. antoinette: commitment 2016. gop nominee donald trump is trying to clean up after a series of flubs cost him points in the polls. that as rival hillary clinton tries to capitalize on some of her opponents missteps. abc's lana zak with the latest campaign battle.

and running september 1. emily: thank you. city leaders are responding after boston's police unions deliver a strong message to the mayor and police commissioner. mike beaudet obtained this scathing letter claiming the city is putting officers at risk. the union says it has been begging the city for what they call the necessary personnel and equipment for 18 months. the letter goes on to say "you can sing kumbaya or we shall but that won't stop a rifle round aimed at a police officer's chest." mike brought the claims to mayor marty walsh. >> two of the points they made, they say there aren't enough officers and they say their equipment isn't good enough. we are upgrading the equipment and i don't know what the right number of officers is false that an argument the police have had

union is contract negotiations with the city right now. but in the letter, they insist this is about safety. we reached out to the unions but never heard back. your economy now. wall street is expressing its satisfaction with the latest jobs report. employers added a healthy 255,000 jobs last month, even amid sluggish growth. the labor department says the unemployment rate remained a low 4.9% in july. more americans launched job searches and nearly all were hired. charlie baker is signing new regulations on ride-sharing into law. the bill requires background checks for all drivers with companies like uber and lyft. it also allows driver for those services to pick up passengers at logan airport and the convention and expo center. it does not include a proposal to fingerprint drivers, which some safety advocates had pushed for.
