>> i'm randy price. mike in for cindy this morning. good to see you this morning. a beautiful morning. >> comfortable. >> if you left the windows open, great weather for that. and we will have a couple days of this before we go back into the heat and humidity, and with that comes the threat of thunderstorms. not today. today, nothing around us, but a few clouds, and it will pop up this afternoon as we saw yesterday, yesterday, a couple of you got a couple of sprinkles out of that. today, i don't think we'll see them. a few check out the temperatures. down to 53 degrees, boston, we dropped here, and we're down to 69 degrees. so most temperatures are at least in the 60s, and a lot of temperatures are into the 50s. for august, the first part, that's amazing. let me show you what's going to happen. this is the way it looks, like it does right now, no clouds to speak of but there are the pop-up clouds i am talking about coming in at 1:00. they sort of fall apart as we head towards sundown so it is just a sunny day that we're talking about.

delta flights are grounded worldwide because of a system-wide outage. this is video from logan airport. you can see there are significant lines inside the terminal there for delta. the airline tweeted that it hopes to be not much longer, but it's unclear when the airline could be back up and running. >> breaking news in princeton. the telegram reports a search for a jogger has been underway on brook station road for several hours the district attorney's office is on the scene, and the road is closed. a resident tells our sera congi he got a recorded message asking people to be on the lookout for a 27-year-old woman. we're working to gather information and we'll bring you more as we get it. breaking overnight, two people are missing believed to have been kidnapped on a road in kabul. an afghanistan security official says the victims are employees of the american university of afghanistan. the abduction happened along a

gunman wearing military uniforms. we'll bring you more information as we get it. also breaking now, at least 42 people are dead after a bombing at a hospital in pakistan. dozens more are wounded. the blast took place not long after the body of a prominent lawyer killed in a shooting was brought to that hospital. >> right now, police are searching for suspects after this native is shot and quilled while playing pokemon go in the middle of a popular tourist spot. >> doug meehan is in lowell this morning with what we know. >> good morning. calvin riley grew up here. he went to the immaculate conception school before his family moved to california. riley, he was a freshmen where he played for the basketball team but on saturday he was playing the popular pokemon go

shot in the back. he was there with a friend on a crowded night in that popular tourist spot. a family friend says it came out of nowhere. >> from what we know there was no confrontation or nothing said. just senseless. just came up and shot him in the back and ran away for nothing. >> police say that riley was not robbed. his friends say they noticed someone watching them from nearby, but since so many people were playing that pokemon go in that park, they didn't think anything about it. come forward and provide them with clues. riley was known for teaching kids basketball here just like his dad did for years. live in lowell this morning, doug meehan, newscenter 5. >> thank you. right now a man is getting ready to face a judge as he faces scrutiny in the death of his teenage daughter. he was arrested on friday in connecticut. he was charged with being a fugitive from justice. the marshall's office says he's also a person of interest in the

daughter. sabrina dasilva was killed outside her apartment last month. her father has not been charged in that crime. he will face extradition hearing today. >> investigates are looking for clues after this boy is killed on a ride billed as the largest water slide, and the safety is being called into question this morning. erika tarantal is following the developments in this tragedy. >> that slide is 168 feet tall and it's closed today as the investigation gets underway. it's unclear how 10-year-old caleb schwab died. riders must be 54 inches tall to ride it. they wear a velcro strap across the lap and shoulders. a spokesperson for the kansas city park is promising answers. >> right now our focus is on that family. i understand you want a lot of information right now.

>> the slide opened in 2014. it encountered problems early on, including practice tests that tent sandbags being used in place of people flying off. the ride was later redesigned. the family released a statement asking for continued prayers. randy. >> police in worcester are searching for a gunman whose bullet pierced a home in worcester, including injuring two women there. the people inside this triple decker on saturday afternoon. the gunfire outside missed its intended target according to police officers, but came right through the wall of this hair salon. luckily those women were not seriously injured. >> americans hoping to add to their medal stash in rio. team usa is in the lead with 12 right now.

hardware. we saw some dominating performances. >> emily, we did. team usa was expected to win gold in both of these events but the way in which they did it absolutely extraordinary. 19-year-old katie ledecky blew away the competition in the women's 400-meter freestyle, setting the world record en route to her first gold medal. she finished so far out that she had time to touch the wall and turn around before most of the competit also last night michael phelps took home his 19th gold medal in the men's 4-by-100-meter relay. he gave the u.s. a great lead before adrian nathan finished the final leg and then the team celebrated. this group failed to win gold in this event in 2012, so the victory was a great win early in the games. and many analysts say that phelps looks like a younger version of himself.

governor bill wells will be in the commonwealth today. he is in the second spot on the ticket with former mexico governor gary johnson. he plans to deliver petitions to the secretary of state to make sure that they are on the ballot here in november. >> today governor baker will sign a bill designed to boost green energy. the plan calls for the state to produce 1600 megawatts of better storage of the energy and for teachers to fix gas leaks, which have been an issue in many communities. it does not include language that would have banned --ed utilities from seeing rate increases to pay for a natural gas pipeline. 6:10 this morning, getting scammed through your cell phone. >> a hack that could cost you big-time. and a plane landing in beverly with a wheel missing. a man onboard describing how he knew that something was wrong moments after take-off.

>> is that what it means? >> everywhere he goes. >> when there is snow coverage, i won't be here. >> we will remember that. >> it is a beautiful day, the sunshine is out and low humidity. we need some rain. and in fact, you look at the numbers and they are amazing. over the weekend we picked up just .02 in boston. some places did get nice rain showers, but a lot of us were just dry so for the month we're running below, for the year we're way below. we should be having two feet ofa we have had 18 inches. almost eight inches to the dry side. are we going to find any rain today? tomorrow, no. wednesday, maybe because we start to get the weather unsettled towards midweek. the flow behind us on this system is out of the northwest, which is a dry, fairly comfortable area for us, and the temperatures not much cooler than what they were the last couple days, we've been 89. today probably 86 degrees. but the humidity is down, and that's what makes it feel so much nicer. we dropped another degree here in boston.

there is the number you watch. the dewpoint, the lower the number the more comfortable you feel. 56, that's a comfortable range. however that humidity will be coming up, and you will notice the dewpoints tomorrow, very manageable here in this pleasant category. by wednesday we're starting to talk about uncomfortable readings. 65 and possibly even 70 by the time that we get to the end of the week. the muggy weather will be coming back. let's check out the high temperatures today. a sea breeze may keep things a bit cooler if you are right near the shoreline but inland, worcester 82 degrees for a high temperature today. and 85 tomorrow. and there comes that threat of thunderstorms as we look at wednesday's forecast. south shore, again, if you are through duxbury and plymouth, a little cooler than brockton. and most of the cape will enjoy temperatures today. low 80s. it's not a bad day. let me break it down over the next seven days. as i mentioned, today is fine, and tomorrow is fine, and wednesday, we're keeping an eye

gas prices are down for the ninth straight week, the national average for a gallon of regular is $2.16 now. that's down 55 cents from this time last year. the average here in massachusetts is $2.11. a check of the markets. asian stocks higher overnight. still reacting to friday's positive jobs news here at the united states. stock futures are also higher right now. this week wall street will be watching for new numbers on retail sales. >> boston city leaders are looking at making street experiment a more frequent option. the city temporarily shut down the street to cars for the day, and it was packed with shoppers. it featured live music, open air booth and is dining. the goal was to gain new customers. the boston mayor is hoping the event would be good for businesses and that it would spill over beyond newbury. >> most of the people that come to newbury are not driving. they are taking public transportation. they are getting dropped off. i think walking is a great thing for the city, too, to showcase

today. >> the city will survey businesses to see if the event was a success and whether they will try it again. saving money when you shop is always a priority and there are ways to do that. experts say you can save up to 15% by signing up for automatic reordering for household staples, wal-mart, sam's club, they offer that service. and another option to consider online grocery shopping. many services offer discounts to sign up, and you can click way through sales and coupons, and finally check out the rebate apps. check with these you can scan your items you bought to get cash back for your purchases. >> we have a new warning this morning about your cell phone. identity thieves are finding new ways, of course, to hijack your account. from there they can use your information to steal from you. one family discovered this the hard way, thieves gaining access to an online account.

a moment. >> 6:30 on monday morning. looking over the southeast expressway in boston. you can see it's a beautiful sunrise this morning. good morning to you. i'm randy price. >> and i'm emily riemer along with olessa. mike wankum in for cindy. this morning a pleasant start. >> very pleasant. >> they don't look happy at all. >> it will be awful but the weather is decent. we have got sunshine to start the day, and low humidity, relatively cool this morning. so if you are going for an early morning walk or a jog or heading to the car to head to work, a beautiful start to the day. you will need the sunglasses all day today. as far as what's happening around us though not much. high pressure is in control. a little nice northwesterly flow into the atmosphere, keeping things dry. look at these temperatures. 53 degrees, there was some pockets of chilly temperatures just outside the city. temperatures were nice and cool. so what will happen today? we'll go to the day with the pop-up clouds.

impact -- is impacting airports all around the world, including logan. we have got frustrated travelers. delta tweeting they hope it will be resolved soon. also breaking two people including an american believed to have been abducted out of their car in kabul by a gunman in military uniforms. afghanistan officials believe both victims work at the american university of afghanistan, and another story we're following police say a lowell native is dead shot in go at a tourist attraction in san francisco. calvin riley goes to school in california, he was with a friend on saturday night when he was shot. >> all right, thank you. the mother of a fitchburg boy found dead along the highway is due in court today. elsa oliver is facing charges related to the care of jeremiah oliver, though she has not been charged directly. today's arguments focus on dna testing, and they follow a

jeremiah oliver was reported missing in december 2013, although by that point he had been missing for months. >> right now several families who are out of their homes after a fire in abington, the chief is telling us that the flames likely broke out on the front porch. the firefighters were forced to fight this from the outside until they had enough staffing there. firefighters from six neighboring towns helped them. no one was injured in the effort. investigating graffiti threatening police at a skate park. you can see it here, it says kill cops. they say it appeared at the skate park on livingston street, and they are not aware of any surveillance video in the area. so far there are no suspects. >> we take it seriously like we take every other crime or any other report of malicious damage. that's why we always look into it to see what happens.

call. >> there will soon be a permanent tribute to a young woman killed in a crash on july 4th weekend. jackie gray was a passenger in an suv that crashed in milford on july 3. her friend started a go fund me page to dedicate a memorial bench to her at sleeping giant state park in connecticut. it's near quinnipiac university where gray would have been a sophomore this fall. the station night club is in 100 people killed during that 2003 fire. it started when a rock band's pyrotechnics ignited sound insulation foam. almost all of the $2 million has been raised to build and care for the memorial. the park is expected to be finished in october. >> a pizza box leads to major confusion at a busy airport. >> why it seemed suspicious to one crew, and thieves foil their own robbery at a jewelry store. the mistake that led to some

>> welcome back. the connector, the southbound side, you can see some of those rush hour delays really starting to build. still not seeing any problems or accidents out there so for the most part we're in good shape. a lot of sunshine out there mike. >> lots of sunshine this morning. cool temperatures in some spots. we have readings as cool as the upper 50s outside of the city. what can you expect? if you are traveling to the north and west you have 80s. could be cooler but not so much through worcester. you will notice towards hall, 78 degrees for a high temperature. and inland we'll see the temperatures in the 80s to the south shore but along the shoreline, the 70s because of that bit of a sea breeze and the cape around 80 degrees today. >> thank you. jewelry heists busted before the thieves made it out of the parking lot. the pair cut a hole through the roof of the store in providence

and you know what, it's going to stay that way most of the day today. it's cool as you start out. boston, 69 degrees. check out norwood, a few miles away. it's 56 right now. then you head up towards concord, new hampshire. it's 54. keen new hampshire, 53, those are comfortable temperatures for this time of year. and remember it is august. we'll get that coming in on wednesday's forecast. the temperatures through the south shore of the cape are into the 60s just crystal clear and widening out the view, not much going on. here's a thing that you are watching. it will be comfortable today because the humidity is low. we have this dry air mass sitting on top of us. here is where all the humidity is. this is a real muggy stop. so i advance the clock. tomorrow not much. same thing. dry weather across the area. but then the humidity starts rolling its way in here. so as we talk about wednesday that sets us up for the chance of seeing thunderstorms as well. the high pressure system moves
