[captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] emily: good afternoon and thanks for joining us. i'm emily riemer. erika: and i'm erika tarantal. here are some of the stories we're following right now. major meltdown for delta airlines. 300 flights cancelled after a systemwide outage. flights have resumed but there are still long delays across the country. emily: a man is dead after an early morning fire in west bridgewater. firefighters responded around 5 a.m. to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

residents were told to keep an eye out for a missing woman. newscenter 5's sera congi is live from princeton where the district attorney has been -- is expected to hold a news conference any minute now. sera: this has been a mystery all morning long. the worcester district attorney is expected to hold a news conference any minute now. all of the expectation is him pork station road. that is where police have been all night long. we know this is a death investigation, according to state police. a few residents said that last night around 8:00, they got a phone call, a recorded message from the town, asking everyone to be on the lookout for a 27-year-old woman who had been missing since 1 p.m. on brook station road. residents also heard and saw a

any of this, only saying that this woman was last seen around 1:00, walking or jogging along that road. we are waiting to hear from the da about exactly what is going on, but we do know it is a death investigation. sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: right now, delta airlines flights trying to get back to normal after a power outage forced hundreds of cancellations across the country. newscenter 5's doug meehan is live at logan. doug, how is it going? doug: emily, the line has been growing by the second at terminal a, but systemwide approximately 300 flights were canceled due to the power outage impacting delta operations. only 800 of 6000 scheduled flights worldwide were up and running. cancellations could continue for

hartsfield-jackson airport, this morning's power outage and system wide computer crash meant long lines and little movement for delta passengers. what have they told you about the flights and the system? anything at all? >> no, i heard from someone that it was down nationwide. doug: the sign board providing minimal information, suggesting most flights were scheduled, but no indication as to exactly when they would take to the skies. what's the status for you right now? >> on track, delayed. but that's part of being a traveler doug: did they say how long? >> couple of hours. doug: despite the delays, passengers we talked to seem to be taking the issue in stride. perhaps today's flying public used to the unexpected. >> i think the lines moved pretty quickly. i didn't really foresee huge problems. doug: mohammed ibrahim is on a 14-hour delay on a flight from egypt to indianapolis. this being his first time in the u.s., he says he's keeping everything in perspective.

experience, and it's not bad for me. doug you're staying positive? :>> yes. doug: people may not be laughing on the other side of security because the lines are even longer on that ride. delta says they will issue a fee waiver for folks traveling between today and friday. passengers who's flights were canceled or significantly delayed, may be eligible for a refund. a flight delayed by live at logan, doug three hours. meehan, wcvb newscenter 5. erika: new at noon, one person is dead after an early morning house fire in west bridgewater. it happened on matfield street. and that's where we find news center 5's rhondella richardson. rhondella: the victim is residents bob murphy, his relatives staring at the house, absolutely devastated.

three people relentlessly banked on the -- banged on the door, trying to get the victim out. about 5 a.m., residents from the third of floor called 911, reporting the fire at 264 metal street. the house fully involved in flames. 54-year-old bob martin -- bob murphy, who lived alone on the first floor died. >> we tried to make entry. the heat of the fire pushed us back out. rhondella: this is bob murphy, survived by his wife cheryl and they have four children. the fire department says this is not suspicious, but they are working on a cause. this family has dealt with fire tragedy before. rob murphy owned a minimart in

several years ago. robert murphy lived on the first floor for several decades. rhondella richardson, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: thank you. a new warning on the cape after a great white was cited. they confirmed the sighting of north beach in chatham. they witnessed the white shark earlier today. no word as to whether the shark is the same shark. taking a live look at our hampton cam, looks like a pretty perfect day, mike. you and i stepped out a few hours ago and it was pretty great. mike: a little bit of a breeze out there. for people vacationing, this is what they have waited for all year long, that the temperatures are very, very interesting, and very nice.

82 degrees, you add some elevation at the airport, it's a little bit cooler. you see it setting up along the shoreline. as far as the satellite is concerned, there is absolutely nothing going on right now. we may have seen some things develop a little bit. remember we have those pop-up showers developed during the afternoon. we have a batch we are basically dealing with clear skies all day today and we will talk about how warm it will get, as well as the thunderstorm threat in a few moments. emily? emily: the worcester county district attorney's office preparing to make a statement about a death investigation. >> good morning. princeton police contacted the massachusetts state police and a

massachusetts. the body of a missing person, vanessa --, 27 years all, currently residing in new york city, was found by a k-9 unit. she was found at 8:29 last evening. she previously lived in livingston, massachusetts. the office of the chief medical examiner has accepted the case and an autopsy is being performed at this time. a preliminary review of the body has led the detectives to believe this is a homicide investigation. state police effectives assigned to the district attorney's office and district police are still in this investigation. it is less than 24 hours since we believe this homicide occurred, and i must stress, we

act. we are asking the residents of princeton and surrounding areas to use an abundance of caution. we are asking the public to be careful, to be vigilant. if you have seen anything or seen someone within the last 24 hours that was suspicious to you, we are asking you to report it to the massachusetts state police tip line at 508 -453 -- the district attorney's office or the princeton police at 978-4 64-2928. the investigation has focused on a timeframe, when vanessa went out walking on brooks station road and when her body was found.

yesterday afternoon in the middle of the afternoon, her body found last night. now a homicide investigation. anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area is asked to call police. emily: right now, police are searching for suspects after this lowell native is shot and killed while playing pokemon go and it happened in the middle of a popular tourist spot. calvin riley went to immaculate conception school before his family moved to california. he was a freshman at san joaquin delta colleg on saturday, he was playing that popular pokemon go game in san francisco's ghiradelli square when police say he was shot in the back. riley was there with a friend on a crowded night in that very popular tourist spot. a family friend says the killing came out of nowhere. >> from what we know, there was no confrontation, the resulting said back-and-forth. someone just came up, shot him in the back and ran away, for nothing. emily: police say riley wasn't robbed. his friend says they noticed

were playing pokemon go in that park, they didn't think anything of it. police are hoping witnesses will come forward and provide more clues. erika: right now police in lowell are investigating after bullets fly through the window of a home. this happened on fayette street last night. two rounds went through that window. one person was inside at the time, but they were not hurt. a man will face a judge today after the death of his teenage daughter. 45-year-old walter dasilva was arrested friday in connecticut as a fugitive from justice. the u.s. marshal's office says h' in the shooting of his 19-year-old daughter in new bedford. sabrina dasilva was killed outside her apartment in new bedford last month. her father has not been charged in that crime. he'll face an extradition hearing today. emily: new at noon, the boston of a hudson man presumed drowned has been recovered. fish and game found the body.

he never resurfaced. the couple were camping nearby. team usa is in the lead with 12 right now including three gold. and we saw the greatest olympian of all-time, michael phelps, add another gold medal to his count. it was also a big night for gymnastics. needham's own aly raisman is officially in the hunt for another medal. that's thanks to what she called "the best bars routine of her life." the gymnast heading into the team competition. raisiman tweeting, "yipppppppeeeeeeeeeeee. so proud of this team. we work so hard. we love you guys. thanks, brazil, for chanting usa in the arena, how cool." it wasn't all glory for the americans in rio. venus and serena williams lost their doubles match. the tennis phenoms were 15-0

conference, letting us -- the worcester da's office just wrapping up a news conference, letting us know they found the body of a woman. the da's office is concerned for the safety of residents and visitors in that town. they are asking anyone with information to contact them tragedy at the world's largest for clues after this little boy was killed. that ride is closed today as the investigation begins. it is unclear how the 10-year-old died. riders must be 54 inches to ride and they have to wear a velcro strap across the lap and shoulders. >> right now our focus is on the

you want information right now. we will get information out. emily: that slide open in 2014, but it did encounter problems, including practice tests that sent sandbags used in place of people flying. the family is asking for continued prayers. erika: hurricane earl turning deadly. at . the cleanup continues. and some pretty incredible video from a nasa satellite. this is rain falling on the surface of the sun. the rain you see in the video is actually plasma returning to the sun's surface. scientists call this phenomenon "coronal rain." according to nasa, it is often triggered by solar flares.

don't want that -- we have a chance for it, but is not a real, real good soaking rain. some places got downpours. a lot of people got nothing out of the whole thing over the weekend. we will have a couple days break before we get to those thunderstorms. look at the temperatures this month. three days above average, four days below average. notice how we hit 89 degrees three days in a row. we could not get 90 out of this whole thing to get the official heatwave. we got real close to it. we may we are running way below rain for the month and way below for the year. no rain going to happen today. high pressure in control. lots of dry air. it's a beautiful day. i just wish we had a lot of rain we were talking about over the weekend. it would make the day feel even nicer. look at all of the sunshine. there is a weak sea breeze trying to set up.

afternoon, that will become more prevalent. inland, that is not a sea breeze. that will keep things on the warm side. southern new hampshire, we could get readings close to the 90 degree mark. the sea breeze is trying to form right through here, but it is very weak. we will see temperatures flopping around right of the coast. beautiful out there. a few puffy clouds. of it. the temperature in boston, 77 degrees, southeastern wins, but check out that dew point -- very low at 55 degrees. where is all of the humidity? it is all bottled up down to the south. you see what happens. tomorrow is basically dry. then the humidity really comes roaring back on wednesday. the heat is in place. we start adding humidity to it on wednesday and you know we've

tomorrow, but wednesday and thursday, he really starts to bring it out. you need something to trigger it here it today, there is no triggering mechanism. very comfortable once again. 58 to 68 for the overnight low. almost chilly this morning. tomorrow morning it will be just about as cool. water temperature -- look, 70's. very mild conditions. high tide at 4:00 this thunderstorms. high pressure moving off. we get a southwesterly flow which brings humidity in, and you also see the chance for thunderstorms. we will keep a close eye on your wednesday afternoon. sunset tonight is that 7:54. let me break down the next seven days. tomorrow, more of the same thing. a couple degrees warmer at best. wednesday is a high-impact weather day.
