crash had things down to a crawl. we have a map set up from before midnight, when the vehicle was traveling east on the westbound lanes. the driver hit another vehicle traveling in the right direction. one person was declared dead at the scene and three others were taken to area hospitals. it is unclear which vehicle the person was traveling in was killed. police are still trying to notify the next of kin. both sides of the mass pike have been reopened this morning for your morning commute. live along the mass pike, doug meehan, wcvb newscenter 5.. emily: police putting out an urgent plea for help after a grisly crime in a quiet community. what they don't know is just as unsettling. sera congi has what we know at

. sera: investigators are wanting everyone to be vigilant and they are also looking for potential witnesses. a source tells newscenter 27-year-old vanessa marcotte was found naked her hands, feet and head burned. the young woman's body was found sunday night deep in the woods off sparsely populated brooks station road. she had left her mother's house nearby to go for a run. people who live here are rattled many now traveling in pairs. police are really focused on a >> we have a horrible circumstance here. sera: police are really focused on a specific time frame right now. between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on sunday afternoon. they are looking for anyone who might have information. again, they do not know if marcotte was targeted or if she was randomly attacked. ahead in our next half hour, a closer look at this promising

emily: right now this fire is under investigation in south boston after causing a million dollars in damage. the flames broke out late last night in a home under construction on east 4th street. no one was home at the time but 5 neighbors were evacuated, their houses also damaged because of how close buildings are in that area. no one was injured. randy: new this morning, a grieving father is going after pokemon go following the murder of his son. shot in the back in a san francisco park this weekend right near fisherman's wharf. the lowell native was about to start his sophomore year in college in california. sean riley tells the herald the game is making kids vulnerable because they're looking down and not paying attention. police aren't sure what sparked the shooting witnesses say it appeared to be random. right now sharon police are asking for help to track down a child rape suspect.

wanted on several charges. his last known address is beach road in sharon. if you have any information you should call police. a belmont police officer is recovering right now from injuries he sustained in this crash. it happened at trapelo road and waverly street. the officer was riding a police motorcycle. it's not clear exactly what happened, but the driver did stay on scene. the officer involved was taken to the hospital. emily: today donald trump's new economic plan is bound to be a democrat hillary clinton already on the attack. >> trump's policies would throw us into a recession, the last thing we need. emily: her republican rival laid out a plan to trim income taxes across the board and cut the number of tax brackets from seven to three. he also wants to trim corporate taxes from 35% to 15%. and will not tax any money spent on childcare. trump says clinton failed on the economy as a senator from new

who was executed after being accused of providing information on his country's nuclear program to the u.s. there is no evidence that was related to mrs. clinton or the dnc email hacking. randy: new this morning, the mbta will not be getting millions of dollars out of the state's annual budget. the herald reporting that the state has determined the transit agency does not need $31 million to meet operating needs. so the t will return more than $15 million it received in may and will not receive another $15 million supposed to be sent over in june. instead, the state is opting to give the agency capital money. it will put $31 million into a capital lockbox set up to fund repair projects. right now delta passengers are bracing for more pain. the airline expects to cancel about 100 more flights today as it tries to get back on track after monday's meltdown. as we reported during

lower 50's in taunton. lower 60's on cape cod. the wind will turn on shore quickly, so by late morning we are locked into a sea breeze. it will reach 80 degrees along the immediate coastline and then you jump in lent, worcester at 86, making a run at 90 through the merrimack valley. 80 degrees for the first pitch and we are only falling into the upper 60's to near 70 overnight. we will start to increase the clouds and then watch this disturbance -- that combined with higher humidity the lead to showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. we have highlighted tomorrow as

on 128 is gone by highland avenue. the town is good to go, down to the leverett connector, trains and buses on schedule. randy: wild video this morning as a clerk pulls out a gun as her store is being robbed. and cameras are rolling. that woman in houston says two men walked in and demanded money. that's when she pulled out a gun and started shooting. the men dropped the money bag and ran. the clerk isn't sure if the men just went crazy." right now, a kansas water park is preparing to reopen tomorrow after the death of a young boy on a water slide. we're now learning that 10-year-old suffered a fatal neck injury on what's billed as the world's largest water slide. witnesses say caleb schwab was riding in the front of the raft when he fell out. two women were also injured. the slide will remain closed even after the park reopens

this tuesday, the faa is looking to boost its air traffic control staff. the agency wants to hire 1400 people to participate in an intensive training program at the faa academy in oklahoma city. the number of air traffic controllers hit a 27-year-low last year. walmart is making a big buy in an effort to compete with amazon. the big box store scooped up jet.com for a whopping 3 billion dollars in cash. that online retailer only analysts say the move won't help walmart catch amazon, but it should help them narrow the gap. randy: rideshare company lyft is adding a new feature for passengers. the service's app will now let riders add a stop along the way to their final destination. the goal is to encourage more people to carpool. the feature will be tested with select lyft users before being rolled out nationwide. checking the markets, asian stocks were basically flat

eye-opener. randy: 5:30 tuesday morning as we look at the sunrise over new england. good morning, i'm randy price. emily: and i'm emily riemer with cindy and olessa. a nice sunrise, looking good, feels good. cindy: the humidity is on the way. we have some c horizon yet. it has been getting later each day but the sun is not going to pop up until around 5:45. by august 23, it is 6:00 a.m. but we have clear skies this morning, a couple patches of fog, not a big issue. most of us aren't dealing with that.

marcotte's body was found naked and burned in the woods off brooks station road on sunday. she was jogging on a well-traveled road in her hometown. people here are trying to support each other and the young victim's family. friends say marcotte was always responsible and took her personal safety seriously. again, it is not clear if this was a random crime. police asking everyone to be vigilant and share any information they might have sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: the trial for the mother of a fitchburg boy found dead along the highway is postponed. elsa oliver is facing charges related to the care of jeremiah oliver, though she has not been charged directly in his death. in court yesterday, the prosecution said one of their witnesses is out of town on the original trial date of september 12. the judge ordered everyone back

neighbors are being hailed heroes for getting a woman out of a burning home in peabody. they could tell something was wrong as they were driving by the home on baldwin street they quickly jumped into action knowing an elderly woman lived inside. the neighbors banged loudly on the door until she came out. the 80-year-old had no idea her home was on fire. >> you didn't come to the door right away, and then she came she said, what are you talking about? there was no smoke where she was. randy: neighbors also helped to rescue the woman's cat. the cause of that fire is under investigation. emily: 5 investigates is uncovering a new drive to get money back to ticketholders of the canceled boston grand prix. the debacle leaving thousands of people owed money. now the bankruptcy trustee wants to sell the 1100 concrete barriers specially ordered for the race. he also wants to sell off some vehicles, including 2 race cars

randy: outrage from some of the relatives of 100 people killed in the station nightclub fire, upset the site is apparently a stop in pokemon go. the ap reporting it discovered the stop last week. right now, the west warwick site is surrounded by a chain link fence while a memorial is being built. it's not clear whether the stop has caused problems or whether anyone has asked to remove the site from the game. a marblehead woman is being held without bail after she bit off part of a salem police officer's ear. emma wiley is charged with a number of counts including mayhem, assault and battery, causing serious bodily injury and resisting arrest. the herald reports police were trying to arrest wiley outside a salem restaurant early sunday morning when she attacked an officer. she pleaded not guilty in court yesterday and she's due back at the end of the month. emily: quite the disguise for this robber in brockton, who got

as you can see, police say the man had on a large afro-style wig. he passed a note to the teller at the santander bank on torrey street yesterday afternoon. he did not show a weapon. if you recognize him, brockton police ask you to give them a call. randy: maine's republican senator susan collins says donald trump does not have her vote in this election. in an op-ed published by the "washington post" last night, senator collins said trump is unsuitable for office, citing cruel comments and an inability to apologize or admit errors. the senator did not say whether she intends to vote in november or who she might support. emily: donald trump is now responding to a scathing letter by 50 republican national security officials who say trump cannot be president. they write, we are convinced that trump would be a dangerous president and would put at risk our country's national security and well-being. trump's campaign is denouncing the letter saying these people

randy: the parents of two americans killed in benghazi are now suing hillary clinton. they claim her carelessness in handling information while secretary of state contributed to the conditions leading up to the attack on the u.s. diplomatic mission there. both patricia smith and charles woods have previously spoken out against clinton during the presidential campaign. emily: three people are recovering this morning after falling more than 30 feet from a ferris wheel in tennessee. it happened last night at a county fairground. the oldest of those victims, a 16-year-old girl. police say all 3 were responsive and answering questions as they were taken to a children's hospital nearby. investigators now trying to figure out how it happened. randy: a new report shows one in four drivers is at risk of falling asleep while driving. among the most at risk? teens and young adults. they're responsible for more than half of all driving drowsy crashes. experts say the digital obsession is to blame for the increase in teen drowsy driving.
