leaving her mother's home in princeton on sunday. her body was found nearby a few hours later. sources tell us the person is familiar with that area. we're not identifying the person because no one has been charged with a crime. this could be a solid lead, but with more than 400 tips, the d.a.'s office is following every lead. d.a. joe early wouldn't comment on our information, but did say the public should be careful and vigilant. kathy curran, 5 investigates. maria: state police saying they need a break in this case and your tips are helping. newscenter five's john atwater is live in princeton right now with an update on the tip line. john? john: a lot of people have been calling. they have more than 5-00 tips now, but they still need the public's help. it has been a very long week for investigators in this small town as they try to uncover clues that lead to a killer.

not forget it, and today i just went right back into it. in hyde park, diane cho, wcvb newscenter 5. ben: thank you. right now, a missing boy is safe, and his father is now in police custody. it started with a shooting last night on blue hill avenue in dorchester. police say 27-year-old juan ayala-powell left the scene with his nine-year-old son. kelvin martins was eventually found this afternoon at ayala-powell's ex-girlfriend's house. night with no explanation. ayala-powell was taken into custody a few hours later in revere. maria: sheer terror for passengers onboard a jetblue flight out of boston. the plane was headed to sacramento when pilots were forced to make an emergency landing in rapid city, south dakota, after running into bad weather. severe turbulence sent passengers flying right out of

>> i thought it was it. i thought we were going down. maria: 24 people were rushed to the hospital among them this flight attendant, in a neck brace. everyone injured on that flight has been released. ben: five investigates looking at the evidence that a convicted killer says led to his wrongful conviction. mike beaudet spoke exclusively with fred weichel inside state prison and discovered weichel has a powerful ally on hise. >> are you innocent of thi >> 100%. >> fred weichel has spent the last 35 years in state prison. he was convicted in 1981 of murdering robert lamonica on a may night in braintree and sentenced to life without parole. >> you were offered a plea way back then.

trial. >> a key issue will be the credibility of the lone eyewitness at trial who identified weichel. the witness saw the killer right here in braintree, fleeing the murder scene, but the witness had been drinking and was standing about 180 feet away, in the dark. >> we visited the murder scene with norwood police chief william brooks, president of the massachusetts chiefs of police association, who has trained police around the country on eyewitness identification and has studied the weichel case. >> you've got the running stranger passing under a street light. it's late at night. the observation is from 180 feet away. you've got a witness who's been drinking. you really line all of that up and it's problematic. >> chief brooks knows he's taking a risk, speaking out and possibly testifying at weichel's hearing.
