cindy: something special was happening. we dropped below 70 degrees. i thought i would comment -- exactly. 69 and the city. things are changing and is all about this wind coming in off the water. a northeast wind 12 miles per hour bringing down some cooler air. you can see it in beverly where it is 68. the farther north you showing up. you contrast that to near 80 degrees in hartford. there is the boundary working southward. that is quite to be the focus of our weather. there are clouds and showers across the northern new england. cloud cover in southern new england but we will see that increasing as this front continues to drop southward. on the other side, still very hot and humid. i think the focus of potential severe weather is going to be across western new england.

temperatures hold basically in the 70's all day along the coastline. a lot of clouds today. you jump in land and we will still manage the 80's. 97 in hartford today. we'll time things out this afternoon. antoinette: thank you. funeral arrangements being finalized right now for vanessa markoff, the 27 year old murdered out on a jog in princeton will be laid tuesday morning. right now 5 investigates with new information about a possible lead in the case. reporter: 5 investigates has learned that police have submitted dna samples for testing on one possible person of interest in the murder of vanessa markoff. she disappeared after leaving her mother's home in princeton on sunday. her body was found nearby a few hours later.

be on the lookout for hungry bears. they say the drought in the lack of rain is leading to a spike in incidents. limited food options are forcing bear to take risks and they expect the bears to continue roaming over the next couple months. the state says to secure all trash and they have a warning for campers. >> keep your food out of the tent. once a bear it will keep coming. antoinette: officials say there has been multiple incidents with people who are raising livestock. it is important to keep those animals and close and in an electrical fence area to keep bears away. it is not the bear's fault. a crash with a van loaded with high school athletes. doug: what police say the driver

antoinette: the state has declared massachusetts. the areas shaded in orange calling for outdoor water use to be banned in those cities and towns. those areas have been experiencing precipitation levels 5-8 inches below normal for the past four months. 62% of the state was in severe drought. doug: what you can do to protect your lawn. reporter: this is an all too familiar sight. >> most have a full watering ban

monitor. most of the state in that severe drought category as that one portion in the northwestern suburbs of boston, acton and burlington, north reading, those are the areas that are in that rare extreme drought category. it is the nature of what we get for rain this time of year. hit or miss, we got missed yesterday. two towns over got it. we miss storms firing up today. and a potential for severe storms. looks like it is going to be focused farther to our west across new york state and parts of western new england. it does not look like a big issue in southeastern new england. we have got the hot weather we had in place. 98 yesterday in boston. that is actually going to be focused to our west today. we are watching her frontal boundary dropping down from north new england with cooler air. you can see a lot of clouds and

showers. we will see an increase in cloud cover and we are also seeing a shift in the wind, at least in boston where the temperature has dropped to 69. wind at 10 miles an hour and that is bringing in that cooler air. you can see it on the north shore and beverly up into portsmouth where the temperatures have dropped into the 60's. a little warmer the father south you go. look at harford -- still holding near 80 degrees. the cooler air continue to progress towards the south and west slowly over the course of the next several hours. you will notice a difference along the coast line because the wind is going to stay from the northeast to the east. a lot of cloud cover today -- i think very close to the coast line, we may stay with cloudy skies all day long. that coupled with the wind off the water. look at the temperatures holding in the 70's this afternoon. you jump in land, and lower 80's in nashua.

talking. -- around taunton. in harford and springfield, temperatures in the 90's. we are talking about an excessive heat warning about hartford and springfield. that is where the heat index this afternoon is going to be 100 to 107 across the boston area holding in the 70's this afternoon. quite a contrast. the timeline here. notice the skies are mostly cloudy through lunchtime. it is still fairly quiet with the mostly cloudy skies. however, look out across new york state. a couple of storms. as we get later into the afternoon and evening, couple of those may shift eastward and try and hold together. but they are going to have a tough time making it to the coast line. a spot shower overnight. i'm not expecting a whole lot of rainfall today. as we get into tonight, the skies begin to clear out. temperatures falling into the

heat and humidity coming up tomorrow. tomorrow just like that with the shifting the wind. we are back in the mid-90's, boston and even worcester 90 degrees. 80's on cape cod. tomorrow, we have a pretty good chance of getting in on some thunderstorms in the afternoon hours. take a look at future cast. live storms developing midday are run new york state. that will march eastward mid-to-late afternoon. with torrential downpours as they shift eastward into the evin one more day in the 90's tomorrow and then more tolerable temperatures in the 80's. antoinette: tolerable. that is a good word. stories we are following right now. doug: a high school water polo team's trip to an away game turned into a tragic. a van carrying members of an ohio girls team collided with a semi truck. a 19-year-old was killed.

van's driver are suffering life-threatening injuries. the semi failed to yield at an intersection. investigators in silver spring, maryland, said they found a third boy in an apartment building that was the scene of an explosion. two victims were removed from the building thursday but the death toll may rise as recovery efforts continue today. the explosion wednesday night shook buildia antoinette: we are learning more about what cost of three children to fall from the ferris wheel at a fair and tennessee. inspectors have found the rivots on the gondola had come loose. the bottom plate got caught on the frame of the ferris wheel tipping them out. a six year old remains in critical condition while two other girls are out of the hospital. a delicate project underway in weymouth. crews using jax to raise a huge

callers. if you are contacted, you should call police immediately to file a report. antoinette: right now, mbta transit police are looking for the man who caused disruptions on the blue line as he tried to get a selfie. they say this man walked onto the tracks at the aquarium station just before 8:00 wednesday night, heading into the tunnel. that caused delays on the blue line as officers searched for him. police say his trespassing was a dangerous, potentially deadly, stunt that put officers in harm's way. if you recognize that man, you should contact transit police. doug: sweetgreen on boylston street is back in business after being shut down wednesday for health code violations. in a statement, the owners said they have taken steps to make sure it does not happen again. there is now designated food safety expert on staff in back bay and they plan to assign a similar expert to all of their locations. antoinette: a deal is in the works for the building that includes boston's iconic citgo sign.

65. inland, holding the 70's and very humid out there. 77 from norwood and a lot of 70's on the cape. look at temperatures into the afternoon. these are the highest today, in the 70's while the coast line, some lower 80's on cape cod and you jump in land and notice 85 degrees, sticky, near 90 and then extreme heat into western new england. what is happening as we have a lot of thick cloud cover to the north end periodic showers in the canadian border. this frontal boundary is dropping south with cooler air and pushing back the heat and humidity, so every have the higher heat and humidity, that is where we will find stronger to severe thunderstorms this afternoon, really focused across new york, vermont and western new hampshire. a marginal threat of storms

mostly cloudy skies, so not expecting a lot of sunshine today. there will be limited son that more clouds -- sun for more clouds than anything else. in the afternoon, clouds break a bit and that could promote one or two storms in the afternoon and evening hours. when we get them, there could be localized flooding due to moisture and also some storms could have stronger wind. they will be few and far between. their firing up between new y eastward overnight. they will die out before they get near probably. overnight, temperatures in the 70's. quite humid and the wind turns up to the southwest because the front rows back the other way tomorrow, so we are back in the heat, back and humidity in the get the highest level of into the 90's. when you factor in humidity, heat index over 100. a one-day break from the heat and a better chance of storms
