scorching weekend. >> we are still sweating. >> i think everyone is. >> 96 yesterday in boston. not going to be that hot today or as humid. still warm and sticky to start the week. >> we have had a beautiful sunrise this morning. we wanted to share this with you via bob on twitter. the sun is coming up. it will be a beautiful storm-free start to the week, but just on the warm side starting out at 75 now i so some 60s through worcester county. mid 70s on the cape. and some lower 70s up on the north shore. you can see it's quiet, storm-free across the northeast. just some passing cloud cover and that's about it right for you. we had a front that triggered some thunderstorms yesterday. it is now just to the south, and on the northern side of this front where we are sitting there, it's just slightly less humid air that has worked in, so not as oppressive overall today.

and notice, we're holding in the 80s. a bit of a sea breeze keeping us there. you jump inland and look at lowell, 90, and going for 91 in framingham today, as well, and upper 80s to around 90, and south of boston, from norwood down to brockton, bridgewater and taunton, low 90s today but not quite as humid as it has been. and we'll be in the low to mid 80s today on cape cod, so it's a mostly sunny storm-free my and we'll check that out. see how we're looking. >> good morning. a live look out here starting things off at 93 and summerville. the southbound side. you can see the rush hour delays are starting to pick up just a bit. let's get to the maps and check the rest of your ride. 93 southbound, stop and go ride out of methuen and andover and picks up down to spot pond. as you approach the lever connector, more delays. the pike, 15 minutes, 495 to

of brockton, and your trip on the expressway, 15, braintree into boston, trains and buses running on schedule. >> thanks. breaking overnight all lanes on 95 south are open again after a serious crash. this is video near route 1. the highway was shut down overnight while police responded to the crash. at least one person was seriously injured. >> and right now, a major project is underway that will have a big impact on south shore commuters. this is video in ove especially for tens of thousands of commuters. >> and the eyeopener's doug meehan is live in weymouth where all of this underway right now, doug. >> good morning. at the center of this is a structure that weighs almost 3 million pounds, and it's longer than afield. we're talking about the lift span for the fore river bridge, a familiar structure for anybody who drives between quincy and weymouth. crews started the process of floating that giant piece of

the drivers have been using the temporary bridge for years, and once this project is done this bridge will be able to be raised and lowered so large ships can pass. that is a ways away. the 244 million project, it started in 2014 and the completion has been delayed until 2018. still this is a big milestone and a tricky one involving massdot and the coast guard and not to mention a pretty good tug handler. the process is a long one. afternoon but to get the size and scale of it, when you see the people up there, they look about this big. this thing is huge. we're live in weymouth, doug meehan, wcvb. >> all right, thank you and breaking overnight, protests erupted into violence in milwaukee after the shooting death of a black man by police. at least one person was shot last night during the demonstration stemming from saturday's shooting. and erika is here now with more. >> dozens of officers in riot

where a 23-year-old man was shot and killed. police say protesters threw bottles and rocks and shots were fired at three locations. at least one person hit by a bullet. an officer was taken to the hospital after being struck by an object. this all comes after violent protests on saturday night. the sheriff saying it's amazing no one was killed. >> the loss of life of innocent civilians and law enforcement personnel did not happen. i think only by t the bullets were flying. it has to be just a horrible anxiety-filled situation for the people that live in those areas. >> this all coming after an officer opened fire on smith saturday after he turned towards that officer with a stolen gun in hand. the police chief says the body camera video shows that officer who is black did act lawfully. the video has not been released. emily. >> right now it's back to business, business as usual at

reports of shots being fired. that set off a police response. police evacuated two terminals. this morning reports of gunfire appear to be unfounded. the authority police say they have not found any firearms. they have not found any other evidence of gunfire at the airport. >> right now this fire on plum island is under investigation. these flames broke out at a home on 59th street at 7:30 last night, and the fire quickly spread to merrimack valley responded. no one was hurt. two boston firefighters are recovering after a fire in mattapan. it started at a home on alabama street last night. the heat making the flames worse. the two firefighters were treated for minor injuries. officials believe the flames were started by a powerful light bulb that was too close to flammable material. the home suffered 150,000 worth of damage.

radar, so there is a break in the rain fortunately, but they are bracing for more flooding in parts of louisiana. it is a devastating situation. >> it has been going on for days. we're getting word, at least four people are dead, and take a look at the video flooding from the air. 20,000 people have now been rescued from rising waters. 10,000 now in shelters. the state's governor is now declaring a major disaster and this situation is far from over. >> i want to stress the fact flood event. nothing has changed with that. stay in your homes if you are in a safe location. >> now thousands of homes have been destroyed by the flooding and some areas came close to two feet of rain just over the past 48 hours, and this has been going on for a long time. >> really is. >> thank you. shark scare shutting down a beach for hours. everyone was forced out of the water at lighthouse beach in

that a field looked like it had been attacked by a shark. the supervisor says it was first reported by a patron and then the harbor master called to say that fishermen also saw that seal. that 750 people were cleared off the beach. many say that they were not bothered by the inconvenience. >> when i was younger i was not afraid. i am not worried. i figure they are going to watch for it and they will let us know. they are not going to let us stay in the water if there is a hazard. >> the director tells us see the shark. the beach was reopened about two hours later. >> a former uber driver charged with range a 16-year-old passenger will be back in court today. the judge will decide whether darnell booth is a danger to the public. the 36-year-old is being held without bail after pleading not guilty. booth allegedly started communicating with the victim on snap chat, and then offered to drive her to school and assaulted her in an everett

charges. joshua crashed into police cruisers early yesterday after leading officers on a chase through bridgewater, abington and brockton. he was hurt but not seriously. he was wanted before the chase and now faces new charges. >> it is nine minutes after 6:00. commitment 2016, hillary clinton gets a boost on the campaign trail today. vice president joe biden will be joining her in his hometown of biten is expected to go after donald trump calling him the most uninformed presidential nominee in history and saying that trump is clueless to the needs of working families. trump will be in ohio outlining his plans to take on isis. he sent out a twitter attack yesterday saying that the media is putting false meaning into his words. trump's running mate mike pence will hold the event in

thursday. >> new this morning, one of the members of the teamster's local 25 is expected to plead guilty to extortion charges. four teamsters are accused of intimidating the staff and crew of the top chef reality show while it was shot in the boston area two years ago. the herald reporting mark harrington will change his plea next month. >> two olympians making history with major events in rio. one of them could up the anty today. and ryan lochte and other swimmers in rio. they were robbed. the trick pulled by the thieves. >> the expensive services students might not need at college. >> and breaking overnight, one person is hurt after being shot during overnight protests in milwaukee. demonstrators upset because a man was shot and killed by a police officer over the weekend. also this is a piece of the new fore river bridge between quincy and weymouth moved into place overnight.

touched that 90-degree mark in the city. on average it happens 14 times, and you can see that we have not had it as many times the past couple of summers, so the hottest summer that we have had since back in 2013 around here, and we are going to be making that run towards the 90-degree mark again today. and that's it. we're going to come down a bit in terms of the temperature. low to mid 80s the rest of the week. still above average. average high this time of year is 80 degrees but not as hot and certainly not as oppressive as it has been. you see te the lower 70s. north shore, south shore, mid 70s in the cape and in boston. a lot of 60s out twhru worcester, but it's a quiet start with a beautiful sunrise. the sun up just a few patchy clouds, and the wind is coming from the west and bringing in slightly less humid air. the dewpoint temperature in the mid 60s. not the 70s. that's the oppressive humidity that was here over the weekend but now taken a little shift down to the south here on the

over the course of the day since we're on the northern side of this front. if you follow this back towards places like st. louis and cincinnati look at the showers and thunderstorms. we're watching this moisture for tomorrow. when it gets in here, during the afternoon and evening hours, there could be some strong to severe thunderstorms. storm prediction center putting us in a marginal risk for the storms going severe tomorrow with damaging wind gusts, we'll watch that threat tomorrow. today is a quiet day sunny skies. high temperatures making that run towards 90. places like lawrence and nashua and down through metro west. notice talking about 92 today but right along the coastline holding in the 80s with a bit of a sea breeze out there today but all is quiet if you have outdoor activities today. really into this evening not expecting any storminess. after that the clouds fill in, and it's going to be muggy tonight for sleeping. temperatures holding in the 60s to 70 degrees for lows. tomorrow an impact weather day for you.

the storms get going. the clouds in the morning but by lunchtime, look at this across new england. here the storms are starting to fire and moving very slowly reaching worcester county mid afternoon and then maybe not the coastline until we get into the evening hours, so these are slow moving storms embedded downpours. they could produce localized poor drainage flooding. a few showers may linger into wednesday morning and we'll dry things out in the afternoon. by the end of the week low to mid 80s, a bit less humid. certainly more go through the wake and 80s into next weekend, as well. improvements. >> looking forward to it. >> thank you. >> so far, fairly quiet start on the roads and volume is building. a live look outside at the lever connector, and southbound heading to the bottom of the screen, and you can see the rush hour delays starting to pick up. let's get to the maps and check out the rest of your ride. so far no problems. north of town, 93 looks good as you travel into andover. stop and go ride down to the spot pond. so far the pike is 20.

weeks and a portuguese official was held at knifepoint. >> your economy headlines for this monday morning. asian stocks mostly higher overnight despite caution about a number of economic reports which are due out in the united states this week. and right now u.s. stock futures are higher. this week investors will be watching for data on housing, inflation, and on manufacturing. and portable housing advocates are sounding the alarm as rents continue to skyrocket from the city of boston, and many saying that even middle class families are being forced out. the price for a single family rental home has gone from 1500 a month to 2500. gd says his administration is working on a plan now to invest millions in affordable housing, not just in boston, but statewide. and back to school coming, and colleges start sooner. >> there are some hacks to make things lower. go through the fees with a fine

canton and delays on the expressway up to 20. braintree into boston. trains and buses running on schedule. >> all right. thank you. and right now this major move underway on the south shore that will have a big impact. >> doug meehan is in weymouth near the action. >> yeah, today is a major milestone for the four river bridge project. around 3:00 this morning it was quite a sight. the span was down the river past th slid into place between the two towers, and when you are 3 million pounds, and longer than a football field it takes a few steady tugboat captains and time to make the trip. now depending on the weather and tide it should be completed at 1:00. if it seems as though the project is taking a while, well it is. at a cost of $244 million currently it's two years behind the schedule, but as you can see bit by bit and bolt by bolt they

we're live in weymouth, doug meehan, cardiovascular -- wcvb. >> we are following breaking news. erika, tracking that new information as it comes in on this monday morning. >> that news coming from milwaukee where there was more unrest overnight. one person was shot and wounded on a second night of protests. the violence started after a black man was shot by a police officer on saturday. police say that man was holding a gun. the officer is also black. and also breaking a serious crash under investigation on the hurt on 95 south. this happening at exit 50, and all lanes are now back open. and right now at least four people are dead. 20,000 rescued after intense flooding in louisiana. you can see it here, and the governor has issued a major disaster declaration. >> all right thanks. right now plans are in place for a final farewell to a woman. this comes on the heels of a unique show of support for vanessa marcotte and her family.
