off to a much more pleasant stop. cindy: big old down quite a bit. -- it cooled down quite a bit. you can see a little bit of light on the horizon. it's currently 73 degrees with high clouds. a bright moon this morning, and you can see the dew point is more comfortable, close to 60. 60's. low to mid 60's off to the cape, but the further north you go, the cooler. notice there are a few 50's. there's an area of low pressure coming to the south, which could follow the rain mary new york city. the northern edge of this is coming out of western connecticut and into southwestern massachusetts. we will continue to watch this area.

-- ryan lochte himself is back in the u.s. he left before his teammates were detained. we expect to learn more today when they talk to authorities. and we'll bring you updates as we get them. emily: new this morning, more than 24,000 drug cases could be wiped out. in some cases suspects set free. the eyeopener's todd kazakiewich is live in boston with the latest fallout from a drug lab scandal. todd? todd: the state's highest ur from the american civil liberties union that all of those cases should be tossed. those 24,400 cases were mishandled by this woman former state lab chemist annie dookhan. the supreme judicial court initially rejected the aclu's attempt to get the convictions tossed. but the court recently agreed to hear arguments, after learning that many of those cases have yet to be re-processed. dookhan worked at the lab between 2004 and 2010 handling

that time. she pleaded guilty to several charges including obstruction of justice, and tampering with evidence. the aclu will present its arguments in november. live in boston, todd kazakiewich, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: also new this thursday, some boston parents are calling on the city to replace the pipes that are causing unsafe drinking water in a number of schools. earlier this week, the city announced the water fountains in six school were turned off because of high levels of lead. they will start flushing the fountains every day to make sure they're safe for the start of the school year. randy: right now police are the hunt for a peeping tom who may be on the prowl in boston's back bay. residents are putting posters up along marlborough street. they warn that someone has been seen peeking into windows several times over the last few weeks. boston police tell us they are boosting patrols in the area. right now this convicted sex offender is back behind bars.

like why was he free in the first place? the eyeopener's antoinette antonio is live in norwood with the concerns this morning. antoinette: some big concerns here -- this guy has a long rap sheet. it dates back to the and now 1980's. that he's locked up on new charges police say they've had enough. that's 49-year-old chad falcone in handcuffs again yesterday. police say his record shows a exposing himself to women. a life-long resident, norwood police say they've been dealing with falcone since 1989. the level 2 sex offender has been arraigned 14 times for 23 related charges of lewd and indecent behavior. >> i think he keeps getting out because of the nonviolent crime, but he is exposing himself and there are kids of their.

are fed up. antoinette: out on bail in two open cases, police found falcone hiding in the basement after his latest offense. just like last time. antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: convicted mob boss james whitey bulger wants the u.s. supreme court to give him another shot at freedom. bulger argues he didn't get a fair trial three years ago because he wasn't allowed to was granted immunity back when he was an fbi informant. a three judge panel already ruled bulger's trial was fair. legal experts say this latest request is a long shot, the -- long shot. anybody convicted in state court, once they have exhausted the interim appellate process everybody says i'm taking you to the supreme court, but the

currently serving a life sentence in federal prison. right now the deadly collision between a bicycle and an suv is under investigation in lincoln. the evidence of the impact, the 59-year-old victim's mangled bike in the middle of the road. police say the westford man was hit on virginia road yesterday. the driver did stay on the scene and talked to police. no charges have been filed. randy: this morning new hampshire investigators are looking into the death of a 2-year-old girl in somersworth. police were called to this linden street apartment on ay neighbors say there was a noticeable police presence at the complex well into tuesday. >> you just hope that it wasn't anything foul, you know? you don't want to imagine a mother or father or anybody doing anything to helpless child. randy: investigators are waiting on a toxicology report that could take months to come back.

this is the wave of low pressure , happening to the south this morning. it will drop in late in the day so between the two there are a couple chances for showers over the next 24 hours. you can see it moving through western parts of connecticut, getting wet around hartford as the showers continue to shift eastward. the northern edge may skirt areas south of the pike, but a of are heading out in the next hour or so, rather umbrella. by 8:00 or 9:00, they should be consolidated around the islands at least through lunchtime. 65 in worcester, 60 beverly, 60's on the cape. 50's this morning for a much more pleasant start.

touching 80 degrees in most areas. a warm day, topping out in the mid-80's in boston, a breeze to around 90 in metrowest, a southwesterly wind for lower 80's on cape cod. at front of the north will bring in more clouds through late afternoon. one or two isolated showers popping up. through midafternoon the bulk are across central new england, but late in the day, one or two may show up. i think most of the area is dry, gillette game. it should be dry and warm, 8:00 temperatures around 80, before falling back into the 60's in the suburbs. with this front to the south tomorrow, less humid air is the set up toward friday. at least the start of the weekend it is looking great. a little bit cooler than it was elsewhere. near 80 degrees but lots of sunshine. low to mid 80's toward the legs.

moon overnight,. that was taken in dorchester heights. we have this gorgeous sunrise, 70 in town, the humidity way down, so it is feeling much more comfortable stepping out this morning. notice the further south you get, this is what we are going to look at, this area of low pressure will to the this cluster of showers racing in pretty quickly. it may bring a few sprinkles of passing showers to areas of south of the pike, so it's probably a good idea to have an umbrella. they are very light, and especially in the next few hours you can get a bit of rain.
