emily: good morning, it's friday, august 19. i'm emily riemer. randy: i'm randy price. following breaking news on the eyeopener, a man stabbed in woburn. the search for suspects underway right now. emily: tragedy for a family in that same community. a toddler dies his twin sister seriously hurt. the questions surrounding a babysitter this morning. randy: and breaking news in rio, netr be forced to pay as a robbery story unravels. emily: we will get to those stories, but first we are checking in with cindy for the forecast. tgif. cindy: you got it. we are starting off pretty quiet, 75 degrees in town right now, and the humidity fairly comfortable, in the lower 60's. mid 60's through the worcester area.

approaching the pike. north of town you are in great shape. trains and buses on schedule. randy: breaking overnight, police are searching for suspects after a stabbing at a sports bar. emily: details are still coming in at this hour. let's get right to the eyeopener's antoinette antonio. she's live on the scene in woburn. antoinette: other stories we're -- details are limited but it did happen here at the bar and grill in woburn you can see the crime tape is still up and detectives are starting to leave the scene. we know one victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. all this went down right outside the front door of the bar and we are told the victim was stabbed in the neck and lost a lot of blood. a police officer tells me the victim is undergoing surgery right now. he was taken to leahy hospital. no word on the circumstances that led up to the stabbing.

motorcycle. no word on any arrests, but one person was stabbed in the back here at the parking lot right outside the jake in joe's sports bar and grille. that's the latest. antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: other stories we're following right now, fall river police are asking for help identifying this man wanted in two robberies. the first happened at a rockland trust bank just before 4:00 p.m. wednesday, the second hours later around 1:30 thursday morning at a tedeschi's store. police believe it is the same man. anyone with information is asked to contact fall river police. emily: a tragedy is under investigation in woburn. 5 investigates has learned this little boy rushed from his babysitter's apartment has died. his twin sister was also hospitalized. the question now -- what happened? the eyeopener's sera congi is live at boston children's hospital with what we've learned about this case. sera: we know both the district attorney's office and the

emergency crews were called to an apartment on kilby street on monday. that's where five investigates has learned a longtime family friend was caring for 15-month-old noah and his sister. no comment when we went to that apartment last night. the children and their parents live nearby. right now middlesex d.a. marian ryan is not commenting on the nature or the circumstances of the toddler's injuries. we're told little noah's sister this investigation is just in its initial stages. we'll bring you more information as we get it. live at boston's childrens hospital, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: breaking news in rio. a u.s. olympic swimmer will pay thousands to get out of brazil as his other teammates head home. and two more could face charges as their story about being robbed at gunpoint in rio appears to unravel. police are showing the video

the eye's erika tarantal is tracking overnight developments. erika: abc news is reporting jimmy feigen is being required to pay $11,000 to leave brazil after this fiasco. meantime the u.s. olympic committee is apologizing and swimming star ryan lochte's coach says he's sure lochte will do the same. brazil is considering charging the gold medalist and teammate jimmy feigen with reporting a false crime. they say this video proves their story about being robbed was a lie and that instead they bathroom and were then confronted by armed security. police say the guards did point guns at the athletes in response to their behavior and lochte did hand over money for damage to the property but insist that truth is a far cry from what the swimmers claimed. >> i think this gets resolved diplomatically. i think there is a solution, which would be apologize, which is what brazil wants the most. erika: lochte is back in the

the two other teammates involved, initially held in rio, were allowed to leave last night. their attorney saying they were only witnesses, insisting they did not lie in their statements. emily: this morning tom brady is on the injured list. and he didn't even set foot on the field during the patriot's final preseason game in foxborough. sportscenter 5's josh brogadier explains from gillette stadium. josh: story brady did not suit up for the second straight preseason game. bill belichick asked about his hand and said that "i made the decision for him not to play." i'm not sure we will see him before october 9 in cleveland. you didn't see jimmy garoppolo, who had quite a night. he played the first half, second-half look sharp. 16 and 21, 181 yards, through for a two-point conversion and was not tackled.

emily: a bizarre crime in braintree. a toddler grabbed in the middle of a supermarket. his father chasing after the suspect. and this morning, that suspect who already has a long list of convictions is being held on high bail. police arrested stephen o'brien charging him with kidnapping and resisting arrest. he's seen here on friday avenue scooping up the 1-year-old, and walking away down an aisle. eventually the father catches up to the man who gives the boy back with no resistance. he then pats the father on the head and walks out. police found him in the woods. randy: researchers taking a dramatic approach to develop a zika vaccine. what they're now asking of volunteers. a judge rejects a settlement between uber and some drivers. the tough break for the company and its drivers in

by early monday, we will get some rain, and then we have a better chance of getting showers and storms. mid 60's on the north shore, near the 70 degree mark on the cape and you can see 75 in boston. just a few clouds here and there this morning. the wind is under 10 miles per , turning on sure this afternoon, which means we have a sea breeze to contend with. the coolest temperatures will be right along the coast, to upper 80's in the merrimack valley, taunton at 86. comfortable sleeping weather tonight, and the windows should be open. 60 degrees, even overnight, the coolest dropping into the 60's

similar to today. i think saturday is the bread a weekend day, with an area of high pressure beginning to retreat. as it does, more of the southerly wind bringing in the humidity, watching this funnel boundary off to the west. that is where we will bring in some showers and storms. i think they hold off until sunday and monday, so the weekend is looking pretty nice. sunshine today, tomorrow, even on sunday. you are traveling north, it looks dry for you, temperatures just a little bit milder, humidity coming up on sunday. once you get into the showers and storms, we could see beneficial rain. behind it, comfortable weather, low humidity and sunshine. one chance of rain and then it becomes pretty perfect.

>> it's as simple as that. some people present us, paint us , as not part of this society. emily: the town says it welcomes the civil rights probe. randy: commitment 2016, republican donald trump and running-mate mike pence head to baton rouge today. they're expected to meet with victims of severe flooding from across the state. yesterday pence drew a large crowd in new hampshire, his first visit to the battleground state since joining the trump ticket. trump spent the day in north ca apologized for comments he's made that he says may have gone too far. meantime, hillary clinton met with top law enforcement leaders from across the country in new york. yesterday, clinton said the nation needs to work together to repair the bonds of trust and respect between police and communities. trump has accused clinton of being against police. emily: your economy this friday. a judge rejects a key settlement for uber drivers in massachusetts and california.

settlement that would have been divided between 380,000 drivers calling it unfair to drivers. the ruling now complicates uber's effort to keep its drivers classified as independent contractors and not as employees. they can still negotiate a revised settlement. a check of your markets, asian stocks were mostly lower overnight, as investors keep an eye on a resurgence of oil prices. right now, stock futures here are lower. investors are looking ahead to a key speech by the fed chief next we feed. the social media app will allow a quality filter for all users to protect people from harassment. the filter allows you to hide tweets that contain threats or appear to be automated. the feature was previously only available to verified accounts. randy: your health this morning. researchers are looking for volunteers to be infected with the mosquito-borne zika virus. they're trying to speed up the process of developing a much-needed vaccine for zika.

randy: we're following breaking news in your early news to go. emily: police are searching for a suspect in a stabbing in woburn. it happened around 12:30 this morning at jake and joe's sports bar. police say the victim was stabbed in the neck suffering life-threatening injuries. they're now searching for a man who took off on a street bike. randy: a framingham teen is behind bch 16-year-old gust ramgren allegedly stabbed the two victims wednesday night while on a family trip to siesta key. his mother, who teaches second grade in newton, called 911. both victims are in critical condition. emily: an everett police officer is free on bail this morning accused of assaulting his pregnant wife. prosecutors say officer michael mori kicked his wife in the stomach and hit her at their home in salisbury last weekend. mori was ordered to wear a gps

he must also stay away from the victim and his home. mori will also surrender his license to carry. he's been placed on administrative leave without pay. new details on the cause of death of a man pulled from a bridgewater pool sunday. the medical examiner's office says the 73-year-old man died accidentally of blunt trauma to the neck. it happened at a home on mary lane sunday afternoon. a teenager at the pool jumped in to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene. remove the benches. last year, boston and mbta police noticed that atlantic avenue was a hub for drug activity likely because people could loiter on the benches. those benches were removed, and more officers added. police say since then, drug activity has plunged in that area. cracking your knuckles may actually be good for you. researchers looked at the

being cracked. they say those who cracked their knuckles had increased flexibility afterward. scientists think when you crack a knuckle you pull apart two surfaces of the joint. that brings down the pressure in the joint. emily: the u.s. women's olympic basketball team advances to the final in rio their sixth straight olympic gold medal game. they defeated france yesterday 110-64 for their8t former u-conn star diana taurasi led the team with 18 points. they take on spain in the gold medal game tomorrow afternoon. jamaican sprinter usain bolt cruises to an easy gold medal in the men's 200-meter race. he seemed disappointed initially with his time of 19.78 seconds. just about a half-second slower than his own world record. but it was still good enough for bolt to snag his 8h olympic gold

[laughter] emily: what a letdown. cindy: amazing. we have a couple things we are watching with tropical storm fiona in the atlantic. it is moving west-northwest, but if you look behind it, this is pretty impressiv watching. i do expect this to be developing in the next couple days. but in terms of fiona, out here in the atlantic now over the next five days, the continues to stay out there, getting closer by tuesday night and wednesday morning, but still staying out at sea for now. we will keep you posted. a big area of high pressure coming down from the northeast. we are setting up for a nice day

where the oppressive heat and humidity is. some rain back here in the middle of the country, this will not catch up with us until we get into sunday night and monday. a nice day today and tomorrow, and the next couple days there will be sea breezes, upper 80's further inland. sunday the humidity will increase, has this area of high pressure sifts eastward. a front begins to inroads on florida. more humidity on sunday, bringing cloud cover, but the sun isn't moving terribly quickly. showers and thunderstorms hold off until probably sunday night and into monday. hopefully we can squeeze out beneficial rain; unfortunately, the nature of rain is hit or miss this time of year. hopefully a lot of us look at some soaking. then behind its the humidity is still with us but temperatures are dropping. sunshine, low humidity, a nice
