but i was out in my garden, and we are hurting for some rain. but the rain is on the way. temperatures fluctuating back and forth all day. we have some clouds. generally in the upper 70's to lower 80's. we have winds out of the southeast keeping it much cooler. the duke point also -- the dew point also in that sticky do have some of those dew points rising up into the 50's. a few showers off the cape. you can see scattered showers through connecticut. not a whole lot off to the west. rainfall well below normal. don't have to tell you that. i will have details coming up a little later on. ben: thank you.

, something else has. trees. arborists blame the drought for weakening trees' roots and branches. newscenter 5's david bienick tonight on what you can do to avoid disaster in your yard. david: crews sawed up and hauled away what's left of this huge oak tree that came down in wellesley with a crash. >> of course there was no wind, no electrical storm. david: a few days earlier in reading, a tree fell on a house. and in salem, new hampshire, this falling tree just missed hitting a woman in her car. >> you can see these branches right here are so brittle, they just not right off. david arborist rolf briggs says : not just this summer, but rather four years of dry weather have been starving trees and making them vulnerable to insects and disease. >> we are going to see a lot of insects and diseases this year we have not seen in many, many years because of the drought. david: in fact, the state's most recent forest survey shows since last year the number of acres of damaged

mcdonald. juli: part of the charges involve an interview with a student who had a relationship with him after she graduated. he was arrested on charges of sending obscene matter to a minor and trafficking of a person under servitude. after investigators spoke with the current studio -- the student in question and the student's parents, police executed a search warrant of his worcester home and he was arrested. narragansett is the regional high school here and serves the students from the surrounding communities. parents and former students here in tightknit templeton, it is the talk of the town right now. >> i came downstairs this

the other driver and also a passenger were also hurt in the crash. all 3 were taken to the hospital with multiple injuries. the crash remains under investigation. diane: a toddler pulled from the wreckage of a boat in florida after surviving for nearly an hour in an air pocket. the boat flipped over during what was supposed to be a quick trip home. abc's mark remillard with the harrowing 911 call. >> 911, what's your emergency please? >> i'm in the river. my boat crashed. and ve at 10:30 friday evening, cocoa beach police received a frightening call from a mother in distress. >> you said the boat is completely capsized? it's upside down? >> yes we're totally upside down , and i think my toddler is under the boat. mark the family was returning : from dinner with relatives when their vessel struck powerlines. everyone was thrown overboard. >> i had charlotte in my hands and my boat had flipped and i climbed on top of the boat and

ben: after five medals, four of them gold, there is one more honor in store for gymnast simone biles at the rio games. the first-time olympian will carry the u.s. flag into sunday's closing ceremony. biles was chosen in a vote by team usa. she is the first american gymnast to win 4 gold medals in a single olympics. diane: one of simone biles teammates also bringing home hardware for the u.s.. ben: needham's own alis games, and her friendship with biles. >> even though we're competing, you know people think it's against each other, we don't take it that way. for me, it felt like -- i had won the gold medal with the silver. ben: the 22-year-old taking home 3 medals from rio. the silver all-around medal and the silver for her floor routine, as well as the gold for the team final. she credits her parents and her late grandmother for giving her the extra push of confidence to win.
