[captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] erika: we begin with breaking news at noon. the fda wants all u.s. blood banks to start screening for the zika virus. that's a major expansion they say is an effort to protect the nation's blood supply. emily: the new advisory means all states and territories will have to begin testing blood donations for zika. until now, that's only been done in areas with active zika transmission, places like puerto rico and two counties in florida. still the possibility of scattered showers today. nothing that will help the

erika: yeah, some places will see nothing. but a beautiful weekend, cindy? cindy: that's right. the skies of brightened up with a little bit more cloudiness. we have been watching the radar. we are finally seeing activity along the coast. if you head over to the cape cod canal, we are seeing couple more showers. that's about it, at least for now. notice in the sky though? boston, metrowest, at the same time you see the clouds building back behind it. the clouds are continuing to help. we will see scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm, but i am not expecting the storms to be all that intense. as this front drops on in, it is the leading edge of much less humid air. for the next few hours, i would say for p.m. in the boston area, there will be a chance of a

they say he matches the description of the attacker, who police say tried to take the woman's clothes off after knocking her to ground, not saying a word to the victim during the assault. >> her continued screaming, she believes scared him off. he got off of her onto a bicycle and left the area. >> rockport is a very safe community. antoinette: mary helen landergren, and others in the area are now warning their fellow neighbors. and despite the fact an attacker is still on the loose, they say out for each other. >> on this street, everybody is aware of their neighbors and safety. antoinette: rockport police do not know at this man is local, if he lives here in town. no one they have spoken with recognizes that man. if you have any information on who that man might be, give police a call. antoinette antonio, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: new at noon, the state fire marshal's office is

morning. that newspaper box held copies of "the rainbow times," an lgbt newspaper. police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. erika: one man is dead, two other men hurt after this crash in the sumner tunnel. it happened around 3:15 this morning, near the 93 north ramp. authorities have not released the name of the man who was killed. the cause of the crash is under investigation. emily: right now police are searching for a killer after two one of them has strong ties to massachusetts. this all happened in a quiet mississippi town. newscenter 5's sera congi is live in stoneham, where one of the sisters has family. sera? sera: emily, that family is turning to faith to cope with what happened, and they are remembering sister paula for her devotion to those in need. >> her patients absolutely loved her.

praised for her work as a nurse practitioner in the south, where she served low income patients. a calling she followed when leaving her hometown of stoneham back in the early 80's. her sister and brother still live here. >> she and sister margaret both went so far above and beyond anything that can be expected of a normal human being. sera: sister merrill and sister margaret held, both 68 years old, were found stabbed to death in their mississippi home thursday morning. their car abandoned less than a order, charity of nazareth. >> it's hard to believe this happen to such a wonderful woman. sera: few answers from investigators about what happened, or any possible motive. her family in stoneham turning to faith for guidance. >> i don't understand why these things happen. i've talked to him. i don't know what the plan was,

sera: also, they are praying for the perpetrators, who at this point have not been identified. live in stoneham, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. erika: at least eleven police officers are dead after a car-bomb attack in turkey. this happened in the sirnak province, in the country's southeast, at a checkpoint some 50 yards from a police station. about 78 others were hurt in the explosion. no word on who is responsible. new at noon, a french court has overturned a so-called burkini ban on french worn by many muslim women on the beach. the decision comes after outrage over some women being forced to remove them. the ruling is expected to set a legal precedent for the 30 or so french resort municipalities that have issued similar decrees. emily: the mayor of amatrice, italy says aftershock damage to two roads threatens to isolate the quake-ravaged town. the latest tremblor 4.7

amatrice. scientists have counted 470 aftershocks. yesterday news crews captured one while filming in amatrice. more than 260 people are confirmed dead after the initial 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck early wednesday morning. you can see just how vast the damage is across several communities in central italy. rescuers continue to dig through debris as many more missing are feared dead. erika: a co-pilot on his way to massachusetts is fired over accusations he was drunk before take-off. police say the pilot in michigan was concerned about his partner, before they were scheduled to set off for hanscom field in bedford. that copilot was removed from the plane and failed a sobriety test. he's been identified only as a 35-year-old florida man. emily: new at noon, a new hampshire karate instructor is facing charges accused of physically and sexually assaulting a young girl. nashua police say daniel rogers bit the girl who is younger than 13 on the neck.

working as a martial arts instructor in the city. new details in the case of a new hampshire prep school graduate convicted of sexually assaulting a classmate on campus. new filings from the victim's lawsuit against st. paul's school show that parents of other students paid $100,000 for owen labrie's defense team. the lawsuit claims the school attempted to rally its well-connected members against the victim. the school denies that accusation. erika: in your health, signs of triple-e now being detected in massachusetts. mosquitoes infected with the virus were found this week in yarmouth. it's the first time the town has seen the potentially fatal virus. town officials will begin more monitoring and testing today in the area. new at noon a tour boat that got , stuck in lake sunapee is now free. the m.v. mt. sunapee ii got hung up on water intake pipes that run to mount sunapee's ski slopes.

emily: senator elizabeth warren is responding to former red sox pitcher curt schilling's talk about running for her seat. schilling recently said he'd like to be responsible for getting warren out of office. warren says she's focused on her job and the presidential campaign. erika: in your health, a life-saving device is now at the center of a growing controversy. the price for a pair of epipens skyrocketing to more than $600. and one grafton father is pushing to change that. one year ago, an epipen saved the life of 2-year-old cece, when she went into anaphylactic shock. her family was discouraged to learn of the price hike, and of the boost in salary for mylan's ceo. she blames the price hike on a failing health care system. the company announced it will expand a low-income assistance program, and issue savings coupons, but will not budge on price. that has cece's father outraged. >> it was disgusting to sit there and watch her say with a straight face that no one is more frustrated than her.

than her. erika: andy palumbo wrote this op-ed in "the huffington post," calling for bresch to step down. emily: americans are using bar soap less and less and researchers say you can blame millenials for that. americans between ages 18 and 24 are opting instead for liquid soaps. bar soap consumers are mostly men over 60. sales of soap in general are still on the rise. that's as some health experts push for use of liquid soap , claiming bacteria can grow on bar soap. for iphone users. experts say spyware can take advantage of weaknesses in the mobile operating system. apple says it fixed the vulnerability as soon as the company learned about it. but they say you need to update as soon as possible to fix the security flaw, which can give hackers complete access to your iphone. emily: i did it this morning. erika: that's good. i never back up my phone. emily: seriously.

[laughter] cindy: well, we have the tropical mass behind us here. we are watching the phase teed up features we've been watching a week long. things have not changed a whole lot, but i want to get you up to speed. i know you are curious. let me show you that tropical wave we have been watching all week long. it is centered just north of cuba on the eastern and and it's really unorganized. this thing just can't seem to get it toget wind shear. and the hurricane center is giving this just a 60% chance of this developing over the next five days. i want you to know, whatever this wave is producing, it is bringing it toward florida and the gulf. what it's going to be bringing is certainly heavier rainfall. there is a rain threat over the next several days into the middle of next week.

southeastern massachusetts. new bedford getting in on a shower. it is building north through marion. in the canal as well. and places like sandwich, you can see a couple of these showers developing. through the afternoon there could be a couple thunderstorms. strong to even severe. it is a warm, muggy afternoon. i think the thunder and shower threat is around boston through early afternoon. you can see by 2:00 this afternoon, a couple more showers will pop up closer to boston, and 4:00, down toward the south shore, the south coast, the

that threat until 7:00 this evening and then it is winding down. another big area of activity tonight, down toward gillette, the kenny chesney concert. it looks like 5:00, 6:00 a mother will be threat for showers. and that is it. loads of sunshine in the forecast. a great weekend if you're going to be on the cape. if you're traveling up north, sunday is your coolest day, but after today, no thunderstorms at all. sunday miss showers or storms. temperatures staying in the 80's right into next week. erika: cindy, thanks so much. an olympic hometown welcome in needham tomorrow. the rally for aly will be held to celebrate olympic gymnast aly raisman. the party will be held at the town hall at 11:00 tomorrow morning. raisman is coming back from an incredible showing at the olympics in rio. she earned a gold medal and two silvers.

extremely consumer friendly, easily hailed from your smartphone. massachusetts just signed into law provisions that will help level the playing field by imposing new regulations on these ride-hailing services. establishing requirements for driver background checks, inspections, and insurance are smart and even endorsed by these new services. the new law also clears the way for uber and lyft to make pickups at logan, pending approval from massport, who hopefully won't impede progress. 20 cent per-ride surcharge, a nickel of which will go towards a fund earmarked for job training and innovation for taxi and livery companies. while the amount is small, it's a troubling fee and a matter of principle. the state is requiring innovative companies to pay to help their competitors become innovative money that will be , coming out of users' pockets.
