jc: we begin with breaking news, a man and woman found dead outside a home in ashby. good evening. i'm jc monohan. ben: and i'm ben simmoneau. sky 5 over the scene as investigators are just beginning their work to figure out what happened. newscenter 5's diane cho is at the breaking news desk. diane? diane: we are now learning that a man and woman were found dead outside of an ashby home this afternoon. this is happening in a rural area off watatic mountain road in northern middlesex county. a spokesperson for the police department is saying authorities do not believe there is a danger to the public and they aot this time. in video from sky 5 we could see the bodies located on either side of the front door on the lawn. authorities were called out to the home just before 2:00 this afternoon, but the circumstances surrounding what happened are still unclear. >> it is a dead-end road, essentially. it is blocked off. there's not supposed to be traffic up there.

houses on that side. diane: authorities are at the scene trying to figure out what unfolded. police do not believe there is a danger to the public and are not searching for suspects at this time. back to you. jc: dan, thanks. david bienick is on scene. he joins us on the phone. david: we just saw an ashby police officer who left the sc what you have seen -- and what they've seen. there is no word of a search or a suspect. we did see them bringing in a large light. they are processing the investigation until after dark. jc: we heard from one of the neighbors and i know this is a

our neighbors concerned? david: neighbors are wondering what is going on. some of them have been asking us what is going on. one neighbor says it has been a relatively quiet neighborhood until recently. one neighbor said there has been a rash of break-ins from drug addicts. jc: thank you. ben: a live look from the boston city cam this looks pretty nice. blue skies. elsewhere across the region it is coming down right now. mike: depending on where you're at. you got one. ben: i got one. it lasted about a minute. it was in needham. mike: that is the nature of these. you don't get much out of it. you see this moving toward the outer cape.

after 1 a.m. a group of about 7 placed explosives in the rainbow times newspaper box. unfortunately, not the first incident for the lgbtq publication. >> someone had urinated in there, dumped a bunch of carcass shells, chicken and crab and a lot of rotted garbage. juli: salem investigators are calling this week's incident a hate crime. and now the state fire marshal is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. time until somebody speaks up and says hey, i saw something or what not. we have a lot of people looking for the perpetrators who committed this act of hate. this rainbow banner was unveiled -- juli: as the investigation continues, salem leaders and lgbtq advocates are sending a strong message. this rainbow banner was unveiled over washington street friday morning. >> we have had such an outcry of community support. people have been contacting us about subscribing to the paper,

officer distribution locations. -- offer more distribution locations. juli: you will notice behind me, the newspaper stand is not there anymore. sunday at 7 p.m. there is going to be an unveiling of a new "rainbow times" newspaper box. the public is invited to attend that unveiling. juli mcdonald, wcvb newscenter 5 . ben: the fda wants all u.s. blood banks to start screening for the zika virus. that's a major expansion. until now, zika screening has only been done in areas with active zika transmission. such as puerto rico and two countines in florida. florida's governor gave an update on the zika fight in that state earlier today, and here he is. governor scott: our county health apartment's agresti state have been -- health department

together well to try to make sure we do not have an expansion of the local transmission of zika. ben: governor scott met with business owners and tourist officials today to discuss the impact ceca is having on the lucrative tourist industry in florida. maria: -- jc: the governor of maine facing new criticism for threatening a fellow politician. governor paul lepage admits to leaving the expletive-filled voicemail that has now been made public. maine's republican governor, paul lepage, once again defending himself , this time after leaving a profanity laced voicemail message for a democratic legislator he claims called him a racist. governor lepage i want you to : prove that i'm a racist. i've spent my life helping black people and you little son of a-, socialist -- you -- i need you to -- i want you to record this and make it public because i am after you. thank you.

there later telling reporters, i wish it were 1825, and we would have a duel, saying he would point his gun right between state representative drew gattine's eyes. representative get scene: -- representative gattine: it sounded like somebody who was capable of injuring me and violence. i'm going to be careful. governor lepage them being called a racist. jc: it is yet another controversy for the lepage who faced backlash in january for this comment, -- comment -- governor lepage: these are guys that are named 'd-money, smoothie, shifty, ' these type of guys that come from connecticut and new york, they come up here, they sell their heroin and they go back home. incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave. jc: and now these latest comments sparking calls for his resignation.

just blunt and blustery talk this can be read as a direct threat against a member of the legislature. jc: governor lepage did issue an apology, saying he meant no physical harm to the representative. representative gattine meanwhile, denies ever calling , lepage a racist. ben: new at 5:00, boston police are ramping up protection for this weekend's caribbean carnival parade to avoid what happened 2 years ago. 26-year-old dawnn jaffier was killed by what police say was gang crossfire during the 2014 festival. this year, police are increasing anything similar from happening again, -- again. >> we will have officers across the city. we just want to make sure nobody gets hurt. ben: two murder suspects are awaiting trial for the 2014 jaffier murder. jc: the search is on for a killer after two nuns are found dead in their home in mississippi. one of them has strong ties to massachusetts. newscenter 5's sera congi reports from stoneham, where one

reporter: the investigators do not have any leaves or suspects in the case. sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. ben: new details in the case of that is faith. ok new details in the case of a , new hampshire prep school graduate convicted of sexually assaulting a classmate on campus. new filings from the victim's lawsuit against st. paul's school show that parents of other students paid $100,000 for owen labrie's defense team. the lawsuit claims the school attempted to rally its well-connected members against the victim. the school denies that accusation. melrose police are warning city residents about a new scam. it works like this, a caller claiming to work for microsoft tells a homeowner that his or her computer has a virus and needs repair. hundreds of dollars are charged and lost forever. a melrose resident says she received several calls like this recently. the police chief says any unsolicited calls like this are fake and should be ignored, and then reported to the police. jc: making sure sailing is an

by the name white-genocide-tm. ben: trump has been actively trying to fight back against the xenophobic narrative, this week changing his language around immigration. tsarnaev you can't take 11 million at one time and just say boom, you're gone. ben: trump even proposed a path to legalization for undocumented immigrants. but at the same time the trump campaign added a build the wall t-shirt to their online store. >> president obama and his team is determined to live up to and that is why over the course of this year you have seen a steady pace of preparations already underway. ben: the clinton campaign also announcing today that president obama will soon campaign for clinton in pennsylvania and vice president joe biden will do the same in ohio. both are crucial swing states. jc: a french court has overturned the so-called burkini ban on french beaches. these head-to-toe cover ups are worn by many muslim women on the beach. the decision comes after outrage over some women being forced to

legal precedent for the 30 or so french resort municipalities that have issued similar decrees. ben: a bizarre and rather frightening security breach involving a plane and a pickup truck. police say man stole an airport pickup truck -- that is it in white -- and drove it into a jetliner parked at a gate. the incident began a few minutes earlier when the man, who was screaming that someone was trying to kill him, ran onto the runway, found a truck with the keys in it and began driving, >> one of our officers cut him off. he turned around and came back. he drove under the jet bridge and ran ahead into the nose gear of a southwest flight parked a gate 17. ben: the suspect, strapped to a gurney and still screaming, was taken away for evaluation. a pilot and flight attendant suffered minor injuries when the truck hit the plane.
