in good shape with overnight construction in place heading into boston, 93 south bound by the zakim bridge and then again as you follow the expressway. roadwork is clearing by great plain avenue and then again southbound approaching the pike. so far we are expecting trains and buses to start on schedule. emily: stories we're following right now, a huge fire is under investigation in pittsfield. flames consumed the abandoned factory building on elmvale place last night. firefite years. it's not clear if anyone was inside when the flames started. randy: police are investigating the drowning of a man in new hampshire, who they say was trying to save children. the man went under at profile falls yesterday. others there were able to rescue four children, but didn't get to the man in time. an 8-year-old was resuscitated with cpr. all four kids were taken to the hospital. emily: the demand for new action after another uber driver is arrested.

randy: the eyeopener's sera congi is in everett right now where the rideshare company is under fire again. sera: this is the second arrest of an uber driver in everett in recent weeks. now the city's mayor wants an emergency meeting with the company over how drivers are being screened. paul griffin is being held on $10,000 bail, after his arrest sunday. the alleged victim told police he had exposed himself to her fo plate this time. just this past july, this man darnell booth was arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old in everett, that prosecutors say he met through uber. the mayor is now pushing for changes to a recently passed rideshare law demanding that it quote, immediately require thorough background checks for all drivers, and require fingerprinting. griffin has another exposure

a spokesperson for uber says he did pass a background check. he's now been banned from the service. sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: right now a holliston man is being held without bail accused in a chilling plot. the fbi says joseph gargiulo was stockpiling weapons planning attacks on muslims and targeting president obama. he was arrested after a tip on friday that he wanted to chain a mosque closed and burn it down. police stations and kill as many homeland security officers as he can before they kill him. gargiulo's lawyer says the allegations came as his client was due in court for a restraining order requested by his ex-wife. >> he has never spoken ill to meet of anyone like that. he has been through a lot and he

the dad trying to raise his children. emily: gargiulo wasn't allowed to have any weapons as a result of that restraining order. he'll be back in court tomorrow. randy: right now, investigators are trying to figure out how two workers ended up trapped in a bucket hanging helplessly over a rhode island river. the eye's erika tarantal is here with the scene that touched off a desperate rescue. erika: a truly scary situation for those workers. the crew was doing inspections under the bridge when their truck tipped. that bridge spans the saconet river in tiverton. investigators say the workers followed safety protocols patiently waiting until a worker in another bucket was able to make his way to them and make the rescue, an effort that took two hours. >> he is very carefully and slowly maneuvering that basket back up onto the bridge and all of them are safe and everyone was very pleased.

that needs to be commended. erika: the workers were taken to an ambulance to get checked out. the truck that tipped over was towed away for inspection. emily? emily: right now, maine governor paul lepage is facing new criticism after questionable comments aimed at two massachusetts cities. the eye's doug meehan is live in lawrence, with the latest in a string of controversies surrounding the governor. doug: he made some disparaging comments about the cities of lawrence and lowell during a regional governors confere governor lepage said drug dealers from the two cities are streaming into maine making the opioid crisis there worse. yesterday, he also reiterated his earlier comments that black and hispanic people made up the majority of heroin and fentanyl arrests in maine. his republican counterparts say the comments are troubling.

a way you should expect your elected officials to act. what the governor did last week is completely unacceptable. doug: lawrence mayor daniel rivera was quick to respond saying quote, the governor of maine is clearly at a loss on how to fix his state's drug problem. join the club, we are looking for solutions, not scapegoats. lawmakers in maine are considering censuring lepage for his comments. live in lawrence, doug meehan, wcvb newscenter 5. randy: new this morng, concern in boston about the possible closure of some public schools. the herald reports the contractor overseeing the city's 10-year education and facilities plan has delayed a $1.6 million study on enrollment. that has parents concerned that the city still wants to close some buildings. a bps spokesperson says the contractor is awaiting updated 2015 information to begin the study. emily: it's back to school today in malden. but some students won't have the

emily: extreme drought conditions are prompting concern for utility companies in massachusetts. randy: this morning eversource is taking steps to prevent trouble. they're checking trees weakened by the lack of water. eversource has hired arborists to spot dying trees before they >> they are briefed and trained to look for and spot the impact drought is having on trees. we are seeing some trees changing color much earlier than one would expect. they are losing leaves and branches. randy: eversource plans to invest $23 million in this year in the bay state to remove hazardous trees and trim around

we are in a serious situation. randy: even during the storms where we had the tornadoes, the trees came right down because there was nothing holding the roots. we need some rain. mike: but there is nothing out there right now. way out west there are some showers but thon us it will get eager. this is the one where i would really like to look, the pressure of the carolina coast. we could get a bit more rain on thursday but it does not look like a promising situation. keep that in the back of your mind as a possibility.

tomorrow trump plans to deliver a major speech on immigration in arizona. emily: a possible breakthrough in the fight against zika. researchers say three existing drugs show promise against the virus in petri dishes. the drugs, normally used for cancer, hepatitis c, and parasitic infections, were used on lab-grown human cells infected with zika. some human cells fully recovered. scientists warn this is a preliminary step toward treatment. launching a third inquiry into the maker of epipen after a dramatic price hike for the life-saving device. the house oversight and government reform committee is demanding information from mylan's ceo. epipens jumped to $608 a pair, from just $94 in 2007. the company says it will start selling a generic version, at $300 a pair. last week, two senate committees pressed for more information

emily: your economy now, some iphone users are taking on apple over defective touch-screens on the 6 and 6s. they've filed a class-action lawsuit, accusing the tech giant of fraud. users say the touch-screen becomes unresponsive, which then makes the iphone unusable. the suit claims apple has known about the defect for a while, but refuses to fix it. the government is backing the mbta's green line extension plan, but has some concerns. the globe obtained a letter sent by the federal transit administration last week to the the agency says it still needs a lot of clarifying information before approving the project and $1 billion in funding. the planned expansion will take the green line into somerville and medford. randy: general electric is throwing financial support behind m.i.t.'s energy research program. g.e. will donate $7.5 million to the school's research effort which is focused on finding new

pittsfield is under investigation this morning. flames consumed the abandoned building on elmvale place last night. authorities say the building has been home to squatters for years. it's not clear if anyone was inside when the flames started. emily: no bail for the man police say confessed to killing two nuns in mississippi. one of the nuns, sister paula merrill, was originally from stoneham. a judge ordered rodney sanders held on no bond for the two charges of capital murder. in the beating death of her daughter. katlyn marin beat the 3-year-old girl, brielle gage, then lied about it. in court yesterday, the judge called marin an angry, manipulative, and deceitful killer, marin will be sentenced in december. randy: a boston university student is out on bail, charged in the crash that killed his best friend. prosecutors say 19-year-old joseph kapp had a blood alcohol level one and a half times the legal limit when he crashed his car into a tree in lunenburg

18-year-old austin a.j. robbins was killed. a third teenager suffered a minor arm injury. kapp is charged with motor vehicle homicide. the driver of the boston duck boat whose roof was partially torn off sunday is given a citation. the vehicle was damaged when it hit an overpass on storrow drive. the rookie driver, whose name hasn't been released, diverted from his usual route because of a detour. nobody was hurt. the driver has been ticketed for emily: the u.s. has admitted 10,000 syrian refugees a goal set by president obama that was reached faster than expected. millions of syrians have been forced to flee their homes, during the country's civil war. at least 106 refugees from the war-torn country have settled in massachusetts. randy: brazil president dilma rousseff defends herself ahead of a senate vote on her impeachment. rousseff yesterday warned senators that ousting her could

nothing going on this morning, so the only thing you have to watch out for is to the west as it makes its way here. this system down here to the south, what it wants is to lift its way out as this cold front pushes and. many times a tropical system, if it doesn't have the wind, it could give us some beneficial rain. if these t g rain. the cold front comes in and trigger showers and then it stays offshore. then we can keep the chances of rain going into thursday. it starts to look damp and then behind this front the weather changes dramatically. by the way, that's a major hurricane through the atlantic -- this is the little one that could give us some impact over the next couple days.
