construction is clearing by great plain avenue and by the pike on the southbound side of 128. trains and buses are starting on schedule. emily: right now city leaders are demanding new action after another uber driver is arrested. they want changes and they want them now. randy: the eyeopener's sera congi is live in everett where the rideshare company is under fire again. sera: this is the second arrest of an uber driver in everett in recent weeks. now the city's mayor wants emergency meeting with the company over how drivers are being screened. paul griffin is being held on $10,000 bail, after his arrest sunday. just this past july, this man darnell booth was arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old in everett that prosecutors say he met through uber. the mayor is now pushing for changes to a recently passed rideshare law demanding that it quote,

fingerprinting. griffin has another exposure -- a spokesperson for uber says he didn't has a background check. sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: right now a huge factory fire is under investigation in pittsfield. flames consumed the abandoned building on elmvale place last night. authorities say the building has been home to squatters for years. it's not clear if anyone was inside the factory when the flames broke out. is being held without bail accused in a chilling plot. the fbi says 48-year-old joseph gargiulo was stockpiling weapons planning attacks on muslims and targeting president obama. he was arrested after a tip on friday that he wanted to chain a mosque closed and burn it down. and that he will plant bombs in police stations and kill as many homeland security officers as he can before they kill him. gargiulo's lawyer says the allegations came as his client was due in court for a

ex-wife. >> no, he has never spoken ill to me of any of those people, anything of that nature. he has been through a lot and he is a man who keeps to himself and is a dad who was trying to raise his children. aixa: gargiulo wasn't allowed to have any weapons as a result of that restraining order. he'll be back in court tomorrowi workers ended up trapped in a bucket. you can see them hanging helplessly over a rhode island river. the eye's erika tarantal is here with the scene that touched off a desperate rescue. erika: a truly scary situation for those workers. the crew was doing inspections under the bridge when their truck tipped. that bridge spans the saconet river in tiverton. investigators say the workers followed safety protocols

the rescue. an effort that took two hours. >> he very carefully and slowly maneuvered that basket back up onto the bridge and all of them were safe and everyone was very pleased. but the man who did that in the white basket needs to be commended. erika: the workers were taken to an ambulance to get checked out. the truck that tipped over was towed away for inspection. emily? emily: new this morning, boston is making a new push to increase diversity at its prestigious exam schools. city leaders actually started this last spring recruiting specifically from schools that often didn't send any students to the programs. part of the push is the exam school initiative which provides free tutoring for students but is largely unknown to many families. the new effort started after racial tension at boston latin sparked several investigations. also new this tuesday, growing concern in boston about the possible closure of some public

the herald reports the contractor overseeing the city's 10-year education and facilities plan has delayed a $1.6 million study on enrollment. that has parents concerned that the city still wants to close some buildings. a bps spokesperson says the contractor is awaiting updated 2015 information to begin the study. it's back to school today in malden. but some students won't have the option of taking the bus. the city cancelled service to more than 100 families because of budget constraints. officials waited until july 26 to notify them of the change. malden's superintendent tells the globe they have a right to be angry and that notifications should have gone out in june. randy: this morning a man is dead after trying to save several children at a waterfall in bristol, new hampshire. the state marine patrol says the victim jumped in to help a child who was struggling to swim in profile falls, but got into trouble himself. other people at the falls were

to the man out in time. >> this is a large pool, and as a result it appears that the victim may have had a hard time swimming. randy: one of the children, an 8-year-old, was resuscitated with cpr. all four kids were taken to the hospital to be checked out. a boston university student is out on bail this morning, charged in the crash that killed his best friend. prosecutors say 19-year-old joseph kapp had a blood alcohol level one and a half times the legal limit when he crashed his car into a tree in lunenburg. 18-year-old austin a.j. robbins was killed in that crash on saturday. a third teenager suffered a minor arm injury and was in court to support kapp yesterday. the victim's mother says her son and the driver were best friends. >> they made a terrible mistake

randy: kapp is charged with motor vehicle homicide. emily: commitment 2016, a new sexting scandal involving former new york congressman anthony weiner is now fodder for the presidential campaign. weiner was caught sexting again this time, according to the new york post, with his young son at his side. and after that report weiner's wife, huma abedin, top aide to hillary clinton, said she and weiner are separating. donald trump says the incident raises questions about how abedin and clinton protect sensitive information, no -- information. >> she is married to a guy that is uncontrolled and uncontrollable, and she has access to classified information. emily: no comment from weiner yesterday. abedin says she and her husband are devoted to doing what's best for their son. meantime, hillary clinton is holding her lead over trump nationally. but the race is tightening. the new monmouth university poll has clinton up by seven points,

tiverton when their boom truck suddenly tipped over leaving them helpless and in need of rescue. a worker in another bucket was ultimately able to carefully maneuver to them and get them down. investigators say the workers followed all safety protocols they were harnessed to that bucket. once safe, they were checked out at a waiting ambulance. it's not clear what led their truck to tip, it was towed away to be inspected. doug: lawrence and lowell are big contribu t the governor of maine. at a regional conference of mayors in boston, governor paul lapage said drug dealers from these two massachusetts cities are streaming into his state and is making the opioid situation worse. lawrence mayor daniel rivera not happy with his neighbor to the north saying.the governor of maine is clearly at a loss on how to fix his state's drug problem. join the club, we are looking for solutions, not scapegoats.
