school weather. mike: i saw that earlier. so if you are headed to the bus stop, a gorgeous morning. emily: we don't want them to be chilly out there. mike: we have plenty of sunshine. this afternoon, boy, a nice, toasty day out there with temperatures in the 80s, so lighter clothing and shorts out there and enjoy the day. check out the temperatures. we have 64 in bostonut of temperatures into the 50s, and upper 40s showing up this morning. the humidity dropped off. yesterday it was muggy out there. you start to notice the humidity. humidity dropping off with the clear skies so where's the next rain-maker? way off here to the west. it is poised to move in here but not until tomorrow night. today we get to enjoy the temperatures like this. highs inland well into the 80s. 80 to 85. if you are right near the shoreline because of that sea breeze, we'll hold the

any way you look at it, it will be a really nice day across the area. but i am watching that system out to the west, and we're keeping an eye on the tropics, which will be very active. i will show you where that's going to be moving and how it will impact the weather as we economic on what happens over the next seven days, including all the way into the labor day weekend. how are things on the roadways this morning? >> they are a bit busy for a tuesday morning. thank you, mike. a live look outside at the expressway, the gas tank camera, the northbound side, you can see the delays. let's get to the map, the travel an accident here on northbound side by 128. and the expressway right now about 30 minutes from braintree into boston. and also, watching a disabled car northbound on the expressway by government center. delays, and as you travel west of town the pike looks good, 15 minutes, 495 to 128. 93 south, building volume, and to andover and more delays down to spot pond, so far, trains and buses are doing ok. emily. >> thank you. right now, city leaders are demanding new action after

they want changes and they want them now. >> sera congi is in everett where the ride share company is under fire again. sera: this is the second arrest of an uber driver here in everett in recent weeks, and the mayor is calling for an emergency meeting with the company to go over exactly how they screen their drivers. paul griffin was arrested on sunday. he's accused of exposing himself in two separate incidents in front of a teenage girl, and boston last year, and this man, darnell booth was arrested for allegedly range a 16-year-old in everett last month. prosecutors say he met through uber. the mayor is pushing for changes, demanding that uber immediately require thorough background checks for all drivers and require fingerprinting. the state passed ride share legislation but that won't take effect for several months. according to uber griffin did

he is now banned from the service. live in everett, sera congi, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: a factory fire is under investigation in pittsfield. flames consumed the abandoned building on elmvale place. the building has been home to squatters for years. it's not clear if anyone was inside the factory when those flames broke out. >> and a holliston man is being held without bail accused in a chilling plot. the fbi says the 48-year-old joseph weapons planning attacks on muslims and targeting president barack obama. he was arrested after a tip on friday that he wanted to chain a mosque closed and burn it down. and that he will plant bombs in police stations and kill as many homeland security officers as he can before they kill him. his lawyer says the allegations came as his client was due in court for a restraining order, which was requested by his

>> he's never spoken ill to me of any of that nature. he's really -- he's been through a lot, and he's a man who keeps to himself and is a dad who is trying to raise his two children. >> gargiulo was not allowed to have any weapons as a result of that restraining order and will be back in court tomorrow. right now investigates are trying to figure out how two workers ended up in this dilemma, trapped in that bucket over the river. you case helplessly over the river, and erika is here with the scene that touched off a rescue. erika: truly a scary situation for these workers. the crew was doing inspections under the bridge when their truck tipped. that bridge spans the saconet river in tiverton. the workers did follow protocols. patiently waiting until another worker and another bucket was able to make his way to them, make the rescue. it was an effort that took two

that basket back up onto the bridge and all of them were safe, and everyone was very pleased to see that. but the plan who did that, in the white basket needs to be commended. >> the workers were taken to a waiting ambulance to be checked out. the truck that tipped over was towed away. it will be inspected to see what went wrong. emily. emily: thanks. boston is making a new push to increase diversity at its prestigious exam schools. leaders started this schools that often didn't send any students to the programs. part of the push is the exam school initiative, provides free tutoring for students, but it's largely unknown to many families. the new effort started after racial tension at boston latin sparked several investigations. also new growing concern in boston about the possible closure of some public schools. the herald reports the contractor overseeing the city's ten-year education and

and that has parents concerned that the city still wants to close some buildings. a bps spokesperson says the contractor is awaiting updated 2015 information to begin the study. so it's back to school today in malden. some students won't have the option of taking the bus. the city canceled service to more than 100 families because of budget constraints. many parents are upset that the officials waited until july 26 to notify them of the change. the globe that they have a right to be angry and that notifications should have gone out in june. >> a man is dead after trying to save several children at a waterfall in bristol, new hampshire. the state marine patrol says the victim jumped in to help a child struggling to swim in profile falls, but got into trouble himself. other people in the falls were able to rescue the child and three other children but did not get the man out in time.

as a result it appears that the victim may have had a hard time swimming. >> one of the children, an eight-year-old was resuscitated with cpr and all four kids were taken to the hospital. they were checked out there. a boston university student is out on jail charged in the crash that killed his best friend. prosecutors say that 19-year-old joseph knapp had a blood alcohol level 1.5 times when he crashed his car into the tree in lunenburg. 18-year-old austin, a.j., robbins was killed. a third teenager suffered a minor arm injury and was in court to support kapp. >> they made a terrible mistake, and unfortunately, austin paid the price for it. he was the kid that everybody wanted to be with. kapp is charged with motor vehicular homicide.

involving congressman anthony wiener is now fodder for the presidential campaign. he was caught sexting again, according to the new york post, with his young son at his side, and after that his wife, the top aide to hillary clinton, said that she and wiener are separating. donald trump says this raises questions about how huma hillary clinton are handling this. >> she has access to classified information. emily: no comment. huma says she and her husband are devoted to doing what's best for their son. hillary clinton is holding her lead over trump nationally but the race is tightening. there is a new poll that has clinton up by seven points. 46-39%, and that's down from a 13-point lead earlier this month

convention. the candidates are taking time off the campaign trial. trump is planning a major speech on immigration on wednesday. he is expected to finally clarify his stance on his plans for 11 million people here illegally. clinton is selling support -- telling supporters she does not know which donald trump will show up when they debate. she's attending a private fundraiser in the hamptons. the campaign also released plans to improve mental health care. >> former presidential candidate john governor's race, and kasich took a surprise second in the state. a house fire caused by a common device, a simple change that could protect your home. some iphone users are suing apple for the big flaw that they say the company refuses to fix, and new this morning, an out the door, get out the door faster by spending less time packing

64 degrees on the westerly wind but the dewpoint which measures how much moisture is in the air, it's way down. that puts us down into this refreshing pleasant category. now we'll be starting to inch up later on tonight and tomorrow will be muggy. thursday, a bit muggy, and late in the day on thursday, and into friday, that humidity is going to drop off and the weekend ahead is looking like low humidity, and sunshine, and almost perfect weekend weather. sunny, comfortable today, a bit of a sea breeze, will keep things in the 70s. and otherwise, about 80 t 84 degrees and partly cloudy tonight with slightly higher humidity but nothing terrible. and you can see the satellite picture nice and clear but as you look off to the west, that's our rain-maker coming in tomorrow night and into thursday. it's also going to be in combination with this system. tropical depression no. 8, that depression is not going to get in here, but there is enough moisture hanging around that we may get the showers on thursday. we'll keep a close eye on that one as we get closer to it. well, let's check out what's going on in the tropics right

it's a major hurricane or was. it's down to a category 2 but you know what it's doing? it is moving in the mid atlantic, or excuse me, the outer atlantic and heading its way basically towards europe over the next seven to ten days. wind driven rain expected there. what we really want to watch is this, tropical depression 8. this is going to try to lift northward. but our cold air, as it comes in will shoot it out to sea, and that will keep us away from the shoreline. we won't be worried too much, but with that out tropical depression 9 down to the south, it will be turned up, so be cautious. you are near the water, a moderate risk of rip currents. otherwise, enjoy the beach. beautiful. sunshine. the rain comes in here as we talk about tomorrow night and into thursday, a good chance of showers. by friday, breezy weather, moves, in and that's when the dry air comes rushing back in here, and there is your weekend. sunshine, sunshine, sunshine. 70. low 80s. oh, that is just looking

looks good. reporter: you have got to be excited. mike: i will give you the best news that i can. olessa: ok. thank you. good news this stretch of the pike we're looking at right now. there it is. brighten. eastbound heading to the top of the screen. sun glare. you will need the sunglasses. over to the maps because we are watching a crash on 128, approaching 128, 24 northbound, that accident right there, and you can see the delays all the way back into avon. the crash is right in this stretch in the final stages should it should be gone in a couple of minutes but expressway north right now a half-hour, braintree into boston, and then as you travel farther north, another incident, a disabled car cleared by the o'neal tunnel. eastbound on the pike, a 15 minute ride, 495 to 128, and if you are heading north, 93 southbound, delays building into andover, and as you travel south of there, more volume down to the spot pond, and once again as you approach the lever connector. so far, no problems with the trains and buses. they are running on schedule. and something cool and exciting for you, if you are concerned

showers and thunderstorms. that threat is going to move in tomorrow night but it's so far off that i think the day tomorrow is fine. it's tomorrow night that we start to talk about the rain. what's going to happen the next 12 hours in boston? it looks beautiful. we'll warm things up to the upper 70s. there will be a few fair weather clouds but it's the sea breeze that's going to keep things cool in boston, and of course that reading is taken out of logan airport. you get downtown, and it will be a few degrees warmer but most areas inland will be seeing 80 to 85 degrees so a toasty d track what's going on, not only off to the west with the showers coming in way but also what's happening in the tropics. the tropics have been active lately, and that's going to be turning up the ocean, and causing a moderate risk of rip occurrence, and we'll talk more about that coming up but now the traffic with that glorious sunshine out there, and there should be no problems, and everyone should be happy, and smiling on their way to work. how does it look? >> wouldn't that be nice? so far a bit busy along 93 southbound side. you can see the delays over in

his counterparts say the comments are troubling. >> whether you are a state representative, a state senator, or the chief executive, there is a way that you should expect your officials to act, what the governor did, is completely unacceptable. >> and meanwhile, lawrence mayor daniel rivera was quick to respond saying that, "the governor of maine is clearly at a loss of how to fix his state's drug problems." join the club. we're looking for solutions, lawmakers are considering censoring him for his comments. doug meehan, wcvb newscenter 5. emily: a quincy police lieutenant is denying allegations that he bilked his department out of thousands. prosecutors say that lieutenant thomas corliss vacationed without recording time off and charged double for detail shift. he pleaded not guilty yesterday. he's been off the job sips he was suspended last september.

the vehicle was damaged when it hit an overpass in stir row drive. the driver's name has not been police, diverted from his usual route because of a detour. nobody onboard was hurt. the driver was ticketed. and right now extreme drought conditions are prompting concern for utility companies in massachusetts. eversource is taking steps to prevent trouble. they are checking the trees, weakenedy they are trying to spot dying trees before they can collapse on anyone. >> they are briefed and trained to look for and spot the impact the drought is having on the trees. what we're seeing is trees, some trees are changing color much earlier than one would expect. they are losing leaves and they are losing branches. randy: eversource plans to invest $23 million in the baystate to remove the hazardous trees and trim around power

6:44, the eyeopener team ready with your news to go. in everett and lawrence and erika is tracking a risky rescue above a river. emily: first mike has a look at your forecast and the potential impact from some stuff not far away from us. mike: it's busy out there. it's like in the bathtub when you go the water splashing around, that's what the atlantic is doing right now. emily: compare the atlantic to a bathtub. mike: yes, the rubber duckys are really a mess. we have had a the shoreline. let me tell you what we are talking about. gaston is the strongest one. it's a category 3, was 3, now down to a 2, the crack have go towards europe over the next seven to ten days, they may have wind-driven rain before this winds down. and now we have tropical depression 8, it may get a name. hermine would be the name but it's disorganized, we're watching this one because what it will do is move northward but

going to push it off the shore but still, kind of churning the ocean out there and that's why i say we'll see it a bit busy the next couple days. and way down here at the gulf, we have this, tropical depression number nine, it does not look like it will become a tropical storm but what will happen with it, tracking across florida, back out into the atlantic. and again, it is passing close enough to us that it will turn up the ocean, and that's why it is going to stay unsettled for the next several days. here's what we're looking at, a moderate rip current, five 7-foot surf, three to five on the south shore, and this is no today, and i think that we can repeat this all the way through the weekend because the ocean will be churned up, so if you are thinking about making it a beach day, water temperatures are delightful, and the air temperature, 80 degrees, a sea breeze coming in this afternoon, and overall, really nice conditions coming in here, and we do have some rain, however, showing up as we get to tomorrow night's forecast. most of tomorrow is fine. sunshine. fading to clouds in the afternoon, and there comes the threat of showers, and then a
