and prayers to the families. >> now tracking hermine. that storm could have an impact on the weekend. harvey learned is here with what we know. >> we do know it's a tropical storm. winds up to 45 miles per hour. it will strengthen some more, either a strong tropical storm or minimal hurricane when it makes landfall alone the upper florida coast. these are all the different computer models, tracking it inland along the carolinas getting closer to us. at least probably in this position is where it's clustered as we get to the latter part of the labor day weekend. after that it's very problematic because it may get stuck with very poor rivers of air to steer it anywhere. does it get close enough to give significant rain and or wind to us? that will be what we have to evaluate. this is where the storm may be saturday afternoon. partly a tropical system and partly not from this point on.

a storm significant south of us and if it came close enough there would be some rain and wind impacts with it. so with the wind impact that chance doesn't really come into play until the sunday-monday time frame. south coast and cape has the best chance of getting somewhat significant wind. in terms of rain from the storm itself, that, too, doesn't happen until sunday and could continue on monday. much more about this coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you. shark sightings shutting down two cape cod beaches. sky five, where a great white was spotted this morning. >> swimmers were ordered out of the water. coast guard beach was also closed. >> 5 investigates tonight, fallout from a story that we first brought you last night. >> thousands of criminal cases are found review. >> this after they found a police evidence room in disarray. kathy with the new details for us. >> the d.a. met with the mayor and police chief for about three hours today. the we learned there is police

back of this hotel shut in east boston. two tourists were tossed from that shuttle and killed. live right now. >> the victims who died had just flown into boston and were headed here to this hampton inn in revere. their hotel shuttle is now being reviewed by state police. >> this afternoon state police scoured this hampton inn airport shuttle searching for allegations. two riders i joseph rodriguez and 47 sandra -- beth of el paso, texas, died after being thrown from the shuttle in this early morning crash. state police say the van is equipped with seat belts, but it's unclear if passengers were wearing them. >> we were saying here for the evening. we had just taken that shuttle to the hampton, and the shuttle was full and none of us were wearing seat belts.

>> a salem mother is a free woman after pleading guilty to attempted murder charges in the death of her son. she admitted to deliberately withholding life saving medication from her cancer-ridden son. prosecutors say that decision caused the death of jeremy frazier when he was just 9 years old. she served five years for her conviction in court overturned several of those convictions. she was sentenced to time served and remains on five-year probation. >> one of massachusetts's most famous war heroes got a big surprise. the u.s. navy honored the captain with a party in his front yard. it happened in concord. how 4 story helped to create the navy we see today. take a look. >> 40 sailors march down a street in concord, stopped at

that. harv: i also have to keep some eyes on what's going on in the tropics because it looks like some impact in the latter half of the holiday weekend coming up. >> in boston, a couple of raindrops but not much so far. 81 degrees, it's become muggy around the region, temperatures in the 70s and le 80 but that humidity impact has been kind of uncomfortable. that's the way it will be tonight. notice there is real comfortable air around the great lakes that builds in here on pleasant. in the meantime i'm following a couple of showers, starting to show around hartford and a couple ready to move the berkshires at this time. you can see that over here extending back to new york state and also a few showers and thunderstorms across northern vermont and on up into southern canada. this is where we find a front. that front is going to be right in our area early tomorrow. so there can be a couple of showers or thunderstorms. once that front clears, then the

be with us friday and saturday. as we track the overnight, either overnight or during tomorrow morning's commute, there could be a couple on downpours. we could use the rainfall. and for the rest of tomorrow, afternoon or evening, southeastern mass and the cape could have a spot shower or thunderstorm. the drier air will start to flow in and it will be comfortable and pleasant updoor day on friday and it will be pleasant to be outdoors on saturday as well. one thing you may notice on saturday is the sun could become filtered as high cloud high clouds will be the forerunner of whatever will be tropical storm hermine at that point. how intense it will be, of course, we'll talk about that in a moment but for overnight tonight a muggy night, only dropping to 70 in boston. 70s to around 80 tomorrow with the high humidity. just keep an eye to the sky for beach and boating tomorrow. but the rip current risk is lower tomorrow than it has been in recent days but that rip current rest look go back up

slowly accelerate and move more north-northeast. already we have, with the spaghetti plot, a track that looks pretty certain across inland areas of the southeast. then reemerging off the maryland coast deeper into the weekend. after that, steering currents are weak and it may just mill around here just close enough to give some rain and wind to parts of our area for the second half of the holiday weekend. torrential amounts of rain are likely to be from about jersey and maryland south. they will get and we probably won't have as much wind as they will have either. just looking at the wind potential as we take a look at these gusts. maybe 20 to 25 miles per hour. could be maybe gusts to 40 in nantucket that would be sunday or monday and that's just a computer projection. it's very early in the game. so there you have it. a couple of showers and thunderstorms. nice comfortable weather friday and saturday and then the weather could go downhill in the sense of included and possibly
