here in new england. good morning, i'm emily riemer. randy: and i'm randy price with cindy, and could be a little impact. cindy: i think sunday and monday what is left of the tropical storm will be getting closer to our latitude but it may stall out to the south. >> could get nothing. >> we could. it is going to kick up the surf as it approaches. let me show you where it is. it is a tropical storm with winds at 60 miles per hour, and close to 300 miles southwest of strengthen today and to become a hurricane before it makes a landfall tonight and from there it moves into the carolinas but look what happens. this just gets stuck, and stalls out on sunday through tuesday, and just south of us, and kind of sitting here and spinning to the south. if it is stalled out close enough it could spin in rain and kick up the winds, particularly on the south coast and the islands, but if it stalls farther south we may get nothing at all so we are keeping a close

closer to the holiday weekend. in the meantime heading out to the bus stop, south of boston, there could be a shower around, brightening skies north and west, and you can see that s of rain coming out of rain with embedded thunderstorms in the past 30 minutes or so, and maybe a sprinkle, closer to the pike into boston, and you can see the stalled out frontal boundary moving southward through the area that's going to keep us in a lot of clouds today, the chance of a shower to the south of the pike, and then that brightening happens as we get to the into the afternoon, so mp 70, holding mostly in the 70s with maybe some late day sunshine. let's get you out to the roads. how are we doing? >> so far, not too bad. the delay is starting to build across the area. a live look outside at the expressway. here's a track by the gas tank heading to the top of the screen, let's get to the maps and check the travel times, and also watching a crash on thorough, in the final stages, and northbound, now 30 to 35, braintree to boston and as you travel south 24 looks good, and route 3, a bit of volume into

clinton's running mate tim kaine will hold a discussion in master and make appearances at organizing offices in dover, and waconia. >> the changes to a trand gender rights, a scenario where a person could face arrest for an improper, an improper claim of gender identity. a law signed by allows people to use locker rooms that correspond with their gender identity and penalties for anyone who abuses that law. although it does not spell out exactly what that could mean. draft guidance on that from the attorney general is expected to include advice to businesses to presume patrons are using the appropriate restroom, unless there is a compelling reason to believe otherwise. a person suspected of falsely claiming gender identity could

patron or call police in certain situations, like loitering or harassment. the attorney general's office also points out that there have been few improper claims in states with these protections. and right now a little boy is seriously hurt after an accidental shooting in abington, and this morning police are trying to piece together what happened there at that house. two 11-year-old boys were playing at a home on linwood street when they got hold of a gun. it is unclear if they alone at the time. while they were looking at the gun, it went off. a bullet was striking one of the boys in the face. the district attorney says that the shooting does not appear to be intentional but for first responders many of them parents themselves, this call was not easy. >> as you can imagine it's a difficult call to go on both abington fire and abington police departments and anybody involved.

counseling. >> counselors will be on hand at the schools for students today. >> right now police are boosting patrols and women are on alert after a jogger's frightening run-in along a quiet road in shirley. the jogger was running on hazen road on tuesday when she says a strange, dark green van slowed down, almost pushed her into a ditch. police say the driver offered her a bottle of water. that's when she noticed another man in the back seat. her neighbor tells us that the jogger felt the encounter was strange and suspicious and she >> it was like he pulled over, and she thought that she was almost being run off the road you know, pushed into poison ivy. >> the incident in shirley happened about a 20-minute drive from princeton where vanessa marcotte was killed nearly a month ago. no arrests were made in that case. the body camera pilot program for boston police is delayed again. the program was supposed to start this week but will get underway on september 12th. an agreement signed in july would have fitted 100 volunteer

>> yes. >> one of my girls said the same thing, sleep, right? >> yeah. >> absolutely. >> there you go. >> and september 1st, brand new month, headed back to school today. i think that weather-wise we're in decent shape today, but we're talking about the potential for some rain here as we head through the end of the holiday weekend. could we use it. extreme drought conditions across the greater boston area, and look at the deficit. we're talking more than eight inches around the boston area, couple of inches of rain, it would certainly help with the drought situation but we're going to need more than that. it is tropical storm hermine that we are watching down here, 60 miles per hour winds, it's now starting to move a bit towards the north and northeast at 12 miles per hour. and it's already been bringing heavy rain to parts of florida, and potential for five to ten inches of rain and flooding here through north florida, but look at this, all the way up through georgia, the carolinas, and heavy rain, that rain, the

the question is how much rain, if any, we can get out of it around here as we head through. there are hurricane warnings up along the big bend area of florida. there is going to be a storage surge with this, four to seven feet above ground level, and that is going to do some damage, going to cause some flooding. they haven't had a hurricane hit since 2005, and there will be big impacts down there. here, there is a chance that we'll get in on wind and rain. it looks like the greatest risk is going to be the high surf as we get towards sundaynd monday. that's the time period of any effects here, and here's the forecast tracking the hurricane center. category 1 hurricane by landfall tonight and tracks up through the carolinas. from here it is trying to lift north and eastward. this area of high pressure will block there from moving so it stalls out monday through tuesday. it is sitting here, and if it's too far south we'll miss out on the rain, farther north we'll get some rain, and get some winds, so stay tuned.

74 degrees, and it is sticky out there, the dewpoint temperatures are in the uncomfortable range, to the north and west, drier air, and that's coming in behind this front, but the front is moving slowly. so clouds, yes, and showers right now, some embedded thunderstorms through rhode island, connecticut, and these are shifting into southeastern massachusetts, so have an umbrella with you along and south of the pike here this morning. 67 in worcester. elsewhere in the 70s now, and we'll see that threat for showers linger through lunchtime in southeastern massactt coast of the cape, but during the afternoon, north and west of town, the sun pops out, temperatures in the lower 80s, and elsewhere it is in the 70s for high temperatures today. and more comfortable sleeping weather tonight, we're looking good on friday and into saturday before any possible impacts from hermine come our way so we're talking about, if you are headed to the cape on friday and saturday, having the best weather, and then sunday and monday potential rain and wind will keep you posted. farther north, it's not local like a big issue.

that shuttle bus, headed for the hampton inn less than 15 minutes later two of them were done. joseph rodriguez's wife tells us that she woke up face down on the pavement, surrounded by broken glass on 1a. and she remembers a police officer telling her that an ambulance was coming. and that's when she realized that she didn't see her husband, joseph rodriguez, and sandra arreola from texas, were killed when the shuttle was hit from nd they had come to boston to help a friend move into northeastern university. from her hospital room rodriguez's wife tells the paper about her husband. he was an excellent person. i have no words to express. he was the best husband. state police say that they are still investigating to determine if any criminal charges will be filed. the shuttle bus was equipped with seat belts. at this point it's unclear if they were wearing them, four people in total were injured in that crash, and they are expected to survive.

hurricane lester in the pacific ocean, and hurricane gaston in the atlantic. >> cindy, tropical storm hermine, which of course, we're worried about, at the latter part of the holiday weekend. cindy: sunday and monday, potential impacts, and down near the gulf coast, a category one hurricane by the time it gets into florida, something that they have not seen since 2005, and so but for mere, if we got rain out of this, that would be a good thing. theim is extreme with an eight-inch plus defer sit so we need some rain, and there is going to be heavy rainwhere this, five to 10 inches, through parts of florida, and a good swath of torrential rain, four to six inches likely, rainfall through the carolinas, and then as it continues to lift, there will be some rain, the question is just how much, and it depends on how far north this gets. you can see it making a landfall, down in florida

saturday, it's coming off of the carolinas, and it just kind of slowly meanders and kind of stalls out to the south, and sunday through tuesday, and just sitting here, there is a big area of high pressure that's going to block this from moving away. we'll get in on some of those rain bands and maybe some wind but the chance of that happening is medium, the most certainty, there will be some concerns at the beaches with rough surf and rip currents, and the timing on this is sunday and monday. and watching a slow moving front now, some showers, along and south of the pike, and you can see them here, and i would say this threat for rain is with us through noontime, along and south of the pike, and we'll brighten up north and west, upper 70s today, and less humid tomorrow, and mid 70s, and sunshine to start the weekend saturday, looking like the pick day of the holiday weekend. we'll take you out to the roads right now and how is that situation? >> it's on the shoulder, not blocking any lanes but weiner watching delays here, northbound there is a crash up ahead by the mall, and you can see the

some showers around. and look what happens as we get deeper into the afternoon. that focus shifts for rain along the south coast and the cape. the skies are brightening. boston north and west. this is where the temperatures could climb into the low 80s this afternoon. otherwise we're staying in the 70s. the skies clear out completely for everyone tonight, and sass temperatures fall back into the 50s and 60s. it turns less humid with the northerly winds so more comfortable for sleeping, and the weather looks great tomorrow. with the high pressure nosing in, it looks good on saturday, too, but the coast, this is tropical storm hermine, and by saturday, it is sitting just to the south. the question is, how far north does it come, and it looks like we'll see clouds moving in, and there could be some rain, some wind, and we'll keep you posted, but if you are headed to the cape for the holiday weekend, friday and saturday, they look ok, and potentially, some rain and wind getting involved, farther north up through the lakes region, you are farther away from any tropical threat so fork you probably will stay dry
